I’ve just called Disney UK to find out how much of my deposit I would lose if I had to cancel my visit (at this point I’m still 7 months out) I was stunned to find out that I would lose the full £200 I’ve already paid, I got a very huffy CM who wasn’t at all helpful. Do any of you have any experience of having to cancel and is it true you lose the full deposit?

If I were to cancel 30 days before I would only lose 30% which would be £262 so find it hard to accept that this far out I would lose the whole deposit most companies would charge a nominal amount at this point. Help please?

Thats the T&C's you accepted when making the booking so unfortunately nothing you can do about it.
I prefer to book with companies like Hotelopia, I don't like Disney.co.uk terms. Just cancelled my 3 nights at POR end of August for £15, could cancel right upto leaving for same fee. 1st time I have ever cancelled a reservation but I was half expecting it this time, been waiting for AP rates.
You know for next time, no idea why they stick to it as they have probably lost a customer for future now.

Disney.co.uk terms
Period before departure date that letter is received Cancellation Charges as a % of total Booking price
More than 56 days Deposit only
56-29 days 30%
28-15 days 40%
14-1 days 50%
Day of departure or later 100%

I have to say that in most cases I would expect to lose my deposit ,I've just read the back of my booking letter & it does state that cancellation charges are a % of the total booking price: "More than 56 days-Deposit only". Having read their cancellation charges I have to say that they are quite reasonable at 30 days most UK TA's would be 100% cancellation charges!:scared1:

Yes most tour operators in this country have the cancellation policy of losing the deposit if more than 8 weeks from departure date, nothing new there.

Thanks for the answers. Not had anything from Disney at all. Booked on line, cant remember seeing T&C to read as normally I check things like cancellation policies. I was told that I would have confirmation of booking in the post, still havent had anything from then even thought I booked back in April.

Just a bit fedup with the non helpful nature of UK. When I booked first of all I wasn't aware that there were 2 different sites for UK & USA. As one of the posters has said, I'll know for next time!

Do you know if they will let me change resorts or will I lose the deposit if I do that?

No just re-arranging things. Never mind, I'll know for next time to go via the US site, you live and learn.

Just spoken to a very helpful CM at UK site who has said we can change our resort if we want with a penalty of £25 if it's to a lower price resort and with no charge if it's to a higher priced resort.

Anybody know why there is such a difference in T&C between UK site and US. For bookings on US site you only pay for 1st night then rest of stay payable on arrival.

That's for room only bookings, for packages it similar to us where you pay 45 days before arrival, instead of 56.

If you're just wanting to change your booking, you should be able to do so without issue. I changed mine from 12 nights at the beach club, with a 14 day pass, arriving on 27th September, to 14 nights at POFQ, with a 21 day pass, arriving on 22nd September. She made all the changes and didn't charge me a penny!! Don't know if I was just lucky but it may be worth giving it a go.

thehails I would check on your confirmation,we had ours in a matter of days,in fact we have a duplicate set as they sent another confirmation with the news about the main pool at CBR. To be honest if the flights hadn't been 100% cancellation we may have considered cancelling-we'll just have to tighten our belts in other areas!:scared1:

Shooby doo - I've called DIsney again and they dont seem to know whether I should have confirmation or not as I booked online. However in the end after being kept on hold for 20 mins they agreed to send out a confirmation in the post.

Update to my original question - We found out that if we reduce the stay we will only be charged £25 amendment fee, so that's what we have done. Only got 3 days booked now and will decide what to do with the rest of our stay later in the summer - note to self - remember to book through Disney US site this time :rotfl:

Glad that you got it sorted out! If you are intrested look at LBV,you are right on Disney's doorstep & only a stone's throw from I4 & Universal & Sea world. The only reason we are staying on-site is Free dining otherwise we would have been back at Staybridge or Springhill.
