Unless THE 5 (sorry couldn't help it) is snowed in, if you want speed drive I-5. I had to laugh, I'm in san jose and we never put the "THE" in front of freeways...

My DH is from the mid west, and he always calls soda POP.

Oh I'm so glad I'm not alone in not learning that! My brother even does it now...too long in San Diego, I guess. But he would swear, if I bothered to ask him, that San Jose did it too. What does he know; he was a freshman then my mom moved him out to Miami and learned to drive there. He does not know!

And he says "warsh" and you can imagine how my adopted state comes out...and he goes back and forth between "Coke" (how I grew up saying ANY soda, or ANY drink for that matter...took me a whole year to lose the "Coke" and just be specific or say "pop" to fit in here) and "sodapop". Oh the horror....

Yikes! That's terrible for your trip to be so much longer than you thought it would be. It usually takes us 8 hours on the 5 to go up north and 10 hours on the 101. I love taking the 101 but we almost always take the 5 because it goes so much faster.

My parents are from Washington and they say pop. I would always have to correct them when I was younger as this was quite embarrassing to a teenager.

It was awful! And we trusted everyone who said it would be the same time.

Hubby's from here and says pop. After my freshman year of college and taking Coke from my vocabulary, I usually call it what they call it wherever I am. Though it rarely comes up now, since we don't drink it anymore.


Anyone else find it weird that the NON-Buellton Andersen's can't be found online?

We are in Santa Clara and always take 101. My husband went to college at Cal Poly so we have to stop at the Firestone Grill in SLO. Their avocado, bacon cheddar burger is worth the extra time! It's also a good stopping point to let our daughter get out and stretch her legs for a bit.

LOL I did the same thing without realizing it, DBF said "what you're from LA now?" LOL I think everyone says it that way down there because it's easier, up here in the North we don't have quite as many freeways. I find myself saying it because my co-worker who lives down there says it that way so I just sort of pick it up. LOL but ya, I normally just say "take 80 to 680 and exit at xxxx" and people know what I mean. LOL

Is there a web page showing So Cal real time traffic speeds?

I have another complication in how I say things b/c my mom, and most of her friends (they all moved out to SF in the 60s), was from Schenectady, NY. I learned Albany was a capital before I learned Sacramento! So ways of saying things in my extended family are ALL over.

Yes, that's the one I rely on when we venture out from behind the Orange Curtain. I see on the MousePlanet site some people recommend 5 -> 210 East -> 605 South -> 91 East -> 5 South or 5 -> 210 East -> 605 South -> 57 South -> Ball Road or Katella. If you hit LA outside of rush hour I'd say just stick with "the eye five".

when my oldest daughter was 2.5, we traveled to michigan to visit a friend of mine. my daughter had only ever heard of soda referred to as "soda", so when my friend said, "mari, do you want a pop?", my daughter looked at me with wide eyes, and said, "mama, she wants to hit me!"....HAHAHAHAHA!!!

it seems even more comical to me now, 16 years later, because 1) my daughter was never allowed soda, so why was my friend offering soda to a toddler?, and 2) she'd also never been hit, or "popped", so i have no idea why she thought of being hit when she heard the word "pop". anyway, we all cracked up when it happened...

we are going to make the Sacto to Anaheim trip on April 3 and back on the 7th
planning to leave around 12:00-2:00 AM on Saturday and Leaving Anaheim around 8-10AM on Wednesday

any suggestions as far as the route, if the Saturday or Wednesday trip will hit rush hour or any alternate routes. straight down I-5 is about 420 miles, anyone know what the above quoted route mileage is???

what is the worst/best case time we arrive in Anaheim with no stops on the way and assuming no traffic. thanks
