Nook or Kindle?

I will first say that I don't think you can make a bad choice - they are both great products. Those who have a Kindle generally love it - and those that have a Nook generally love it! I myself (and my daughter) have 3g-wifi Nooks and LOVE THEM! My uncle has a Kindle and we were doing the whole touch, talk and compare. His assessment (and he loves his Kindle) was that the screen on my nook was a little bit more clear. I love that I can download free library books to my Nook - but I have also heard that Kindle will be getting that as well. I also prefer the touch screen at the bottom of my Nook over the keyboard on the Kindle.

Anymore it just depends on who you want to buy books from. If you find Amazon's website easier (which I do) buy a Kindle. If you find B&N's website easier buy a Nook.

If you decide to get a Kindle I would wait a little bit though. Rumor has it Amazon is going to release three new devices in the next month or so; An Android tablet, a touch screen Kindle and a cheaper non touch screen Kindle.

As is usual in these threads, a lot of people are not distinguishing the Nook and the Nook Color -- they are two different types of devices.

If you are comparing the Nook (regular) and the Kindle, it should just be a matter of personal preference. They use the same technology. When I bought mine, I got the Kindle because I liked the interface much better (I hated the glass touch strip on the bottom of the old Nooks). If I were buying now, I'd more seriously consider the Nook -- they have made the e-ink page a touch screen, which has made the device smaller.

Also, if your aunt is at all technologically challenged and lives near a B&N, then the Nook might be the better choice, since she can go into the store and get help.

Now if you are looking at the Nook Color vs the Nook/Kindle, that is a whole different can of worms. Though the Nook Color and Nook share a name (bad marketing move, IMHO), they are completely different technology. The Nook Color is more like a dumbed down iPad than a souped up Nook.
