Looking for pro's/con's for a Kindle or Nook...any recommendations and or comments welcome!

I received a Kindle (original no light; no keyboard) 3 Christmas ago. It works perfectly still. Since I already had an Amazon account, it was a good gift for me. As time has gone on, I don't use it. I have the kindle app on my phone and tablet. My kindle is black and white, but the app has everything in color.

Imo, if you have the ability to get the app on an electronic device, use it rather than spend the money on the reader.

I prefer Kindle because of the amazon connection.

We've had one for years and years and it still works great. But rather than buy one for myself (it's my husbands)- I just downloaded a free smart phone app.

I have a nook HD+ and I love it. We are getting DD12 the new nook for Christmas because she dropped her nook tablet off of her loft bed and cracked the screen.

I just remembered the other things I wanted to say. We went with the nook because you can put a memory card in it, so it gives my husband the ability to put work documents on it, and I can save books from the internet on a card instead of having them in the memory (I use a lot of google books for genealogy). I also like the fact that if there is a problem with it, I can drive 5 miles to the store and they fix or replace it right then and there. When I first got my HD+ I was having a problem with it (I don't remember what) and I went into the store and told the woman at the desk "It keeps doing this" She responded with "Well it shouldn't, let me make a call." Less than 5 minutes later she handed me a brand new one.

I have a Kindle Paperwhite. I LOVE it. I love that it looks like a book page, so less eye strain than when I read on my phone (which is what I do away from home, I don't bring my Kindle with me), but it's got the light so you don't necessarily need other lighting. It is one of my favorite purchases.

I have the Paperwhite too and love it!

And I love the Amazon connection too. I do Swagbucks and get Amazon gift cards and that is free books!

I have a Kindle Keyboard. Five years old? If I'm going to read a book that's what I read it on. I also have an iPad Mini. I tried all the tricks but I just can't read books on it, too much eye strain. I don't however, have a problem reading magazines on it. I think because I'm not reading for hours. In a pinch I'll use the Kindle app but I much prefer to read on my Kindle because I can read for long periods of time on it. I'm hoping Santa brings me the new Voyage.:santa:

I love my Kindle Paperwhite. The Nook's hardware is technically superior by a small margin (or it was, I haven't checked things out recently), but I prefer Amazon's content ecosystem.

I do read sometimes on my phone and tablet but I prefer using the Kindle for any length of time. It's easier on my eyes and my wrists.

We have Nook HD+ and put an android program on the memory card. With the card in, it is an android tablet. Take that memory card out, it starts up in Nook HD+.

Are you talking about their ereaders or tablets?

I have a Nook Simple Touch that I got 3.5 years ago and works great. I don't like to read books on a tablet so I specifically wanted a dedicated ereader. My mom has a Nook HD Tablet and really likes it too. I have heard some not great reviews (especially on this board recently) about the Kindle Fire.

I have owned both Nook and Kindle (eink and tablet forms) and I prefer Kindle. The Kindle OS is easier for me to use than Nooks and I found the Nooks would run slower than my Kindles but what really switched me to Kindle only is the companies take on customer service.

Amazon's customer service can't be beat IMO. They may not have brick and mortar stores to run into but when I do their "call me" feature I have always been called within 30 seconds by a live person. They never argue with me and do everything they can to make me happy. I have only had to return a couple of items but they have always overnighted me a new product and then given me 30 days to return the faulty one, without having to pay shipping for either. They also let you return ebooks within 7 days if you accidentally purchased it or the formatting is horrible (which can happen with some publishers). You can even do this online now without having to talk to someone.

It has been a couple of years since I have dealt with B&N's customer service (so they may have improved since then) but I always had to argue with them and most the time they didn't fix my problem. Accidentally purchased or badly formatted books could not be returned at all.

Have loved our Kindles starting with Touch, then original Fire 7", HD 7", HD 9"...I'm sure I'm forgetting one at least.

I remember trying to decide between Nook and Kindle too, busy mom, but even back then it seemed that B&N was sliding toward bankruptcy and closing stores, Nook future support was questionable, and Amazon was just the opposite. Years later seems like that hasn't changed, so just wanted to let you know we've been soooo happy with our Kindles and Amazon support.

Shoot, you can get a refurbished HD 7" for $129 right now from Amazon that comes with the same warranty as new. That's a give-away price for something that you can read books and magazines, surf the internet , email, watch streaming or downloaded movies or TV on.

To me, modern technology that's now available for the price is incredible, and this is a perfect example of what I mean.

Good luck, busy mom, I'm sure whatever you decide to buy will be fun and exciting.

:goodvibes

I don't have it yet, but I have a Kindle Voyage on pre-order that I am super excited to finally get. I bought it entirely with Perk rewards. Right now I read on the kindle app on my phone and it definitely strains my eyes. I cannot wait for my Voyage!
