I have read recently that they are a peanut based noodle dish now vs. the lo mein type dish they served. What can you tell me? thanks!

Anyone know this answer? I just called Disney and got two different answers.. A toddler with peanut allergies and noodles with peanuts may cause a mommy to have a panic attack.

Honestly, based on what i've heard from ppl who ate there very recently, it is in fact a peanut based noodle dish. If you want to eat there, I would indicate the allergy on your reservation. You will get a call (or you will have to call) someone at disney who takes care of that sort of thing. There are many ppl with allergies at disney, and the chefs do their very best to accomodate. They even go as far as making separate dishes for the person. So dont worry!

I ate there last week, and they were lo mein noodles. They were the same noodles I ate in early July, if that helps anyone. I don't remember them being peanutty, but OTOH, they were for me only (and not my multiple-food allergic friends,) so they may have been.

I would definitely note the peanut allergy on ALL of your ADRs, and the chefs will make sure your child eats safely. :)

Ohana is not the restaurant for someone with nut allergies.

If you wish to dine there the best thing to do is contact the restaurant directly, let them know when you are coming and what can be done.

:)

I have to disagree with the bolded statement - I have a tree nut allergy and had no problem. The only thing I was advised to stay away from was the welcome bread.

Agreed with the second statement - make sure and note the allergy on your dining reservations and the restaurant will do what they can to accomodate you.

Depends on the allergy. If the person is so allergic that they can't be in the same room with other guests eating peanuts or near a kitchen that cooks with peanuts, then no, 'Ohana is not the right restaurant.

Also in the case of a toddler, if you are worried about physical cross-contamination - your child touching chairs and tables, or playing with other children during the games and touching the hands of kids who have been eating peanut sauce, you may want to rethink it. If it's not a contact allergy and is just about ingestion, bring wipes for the kid's hands, etc.

If the allergy is not so severe and the guest only has to worry about not consuming peanuts, then make sure the reservation refers to the allergy and your party will be taken care of.

If it's a case that the peanut-containing items shouldn't be served to one party member, they'll find something else for that party member. If you don't want the items on the table at all, they won't be put there. They might even prepare a substitute. so make sure there is notification on your reservation that you have an allergy in your party.

Also check on the DisABILITIES board for information on contacting Disney Special Diets.

I ate there on October 3rd and the noodles were the same lo mein style noodles as always.

Last trip we sat next to a family with a toddler who had several severe allergies and they'd noted it at ADR time. The chef stopped by the table immediately and began speaking with mom and dad on what to serve. From what we could see, the toddler had a fine meal--different choices of course--and the rest of the family ate the normal Ohana courses. The noodles are like candy to me:worship:I have to stop myself from filling up on them before the rest of the marvelous food arrives.

They do definitely serve a peanut sauce too. They will make a plate of safe foods but if you will still worry about how clean water glasses, silverware, table, etc are I think it would be a very stressful meal. I have a mild peanut allergy and keep making ADRs and cancelling them every trip for Ohana. I just don't want to risk messing up our trip.

The allears menu lists the noodes as egg noodles with a peanut sauce. I would think that if you not the allergy on your reservation they would be able to keep your child safe. Disney is great with food allergies.

DD5 is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. We went to 'Ohana for dinner in August and the chef informed us that the noodles are completely safe. We were not permitted to have the breads and obviously the peanut sauce was off limits, but she ate the noodles and everything else and was perfectly fine. In fact, she was reaction free our entire time at WDW. I heard very good things about 'Ohana from others with food allergies and they were right. 'Ohana, and really all of the WDW restaurants bend over backwards to keep allergic people well fed and safe.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think you're overreacting. If you take a look at other Disney restaurants you'll see most serve something with peanuts - are you staying away from all of them? :confused3

I can't speak for the PP, but I will say that 'Ohana scared us significantly more than any of our ADRs. I remember going into that meal making sure my daughter's epi pen was ready in a flash just in case. Asian or Asian inspired food is considered one of the biggest food risks for a peanut allergic person...not as much b/c of cross contamination risks but b/c so many things have peanut oil. Had I not seen glowing reviews from other allergic people, we wouldn't have chanced it either. We avg 10 TS meals a trip and really didn't notice an overabundance of menu items with nuts (there were some, but it didn't feel like nuts everywhere) + Disney is EXCELLENT about preparing safe meals when informed of an allergy. Considering DD5 is sensitive enough to react to trace amts of nuts in things like plain vanilla ice cream or cookies (i.e. items w/cross contamination risks) and she got through two trips to WDW reaction free- I have to say that WDW is probably the safest place for a food allergic person to dine. HOWEVER, everyone with food allergies has their own comfort levels. Some people are so scared that they won't eat out anywhere- and having seen my child go through a 5 stage serious reaction including anaphylaxis, I can't blame people for being at the very least worried.

Speaking of which, I know of a girl with a wide array of food allergies and the chef at 'Ohana went as far as to cook her safe foods separately from the standard 'Ohana fare (you wouldn't even recognize her meal to be 'Ohana)...right down to a special dessert since even the bread pudding was off limits. So, if the menu has been changed and the noodles now do have peanuts- I am confident that they can prepare an alternative in a safe space for peanut allergic people.

. Many WDW places don't have peanuts on their menus and when they do they are often pre-made items. Because Ohana puts a bowl of peanut sauce on every table I just think that is riskier because peanuts get on everything as tables are cleared. Not sure about you but every so often you get a fork, glass, etc when you are out to eat that has a speck of food on it. When a little error like that can send you to the hospital it makes you cautious. I know they can and will prepare safe food but when you know every table, chair. Salt shaker. And dish has peanuts potentially it's not a fun experience.

We ate at Ohana on Thursday and sat next to someone with several severe allergies. The chef came out and spent lots of time discussing them with her. She took notes and they took really good care of her. She was given special sides, sauces left off, special dessert, etc.

I'm sure they will take good care off you too- just be sure to let them know.

If the allergy is so severe that one is worried about the possibility that a fragment of peanut will remain on the silverware or table after they are cleaned, then one is best off skipping this restaurant. And maybe some other restaurants.
