Noob Question

Which is better?

  • One 225 point contract

  • A 200 point contract with a 25 point add-on

  • Esentially no difference if you never sell the 25 poin contract.

DW and I are considering buying a new contract at BLT so we can at least stay in a studio for a week during any season. I'm thinking 225 points should cover it, but my question for you experts is should I do a 200 point contract and then a 25 point contract or should we just buy one 225 contract? Given the current incentives, 200+25 would cost $200 more than 225. Chances are I would not sell the 25 point contract without selling the 200, but would it make much of a difference selling two seperate contracts versus selling the 225 point contract?

I would break it up into the smaller contracts. Typically, as long as your first contract remains at at least 160, you will get the discounts on the entire purchase. This way, if you find you have too many points, or ever have to sell, you can sell one of the smaller ones but still own points.

So, if you do 200 & 25, you would be eligible for any of the incentives on both those contracts since it is looked at, sort of, as one transaction.

I know when I added on with BLT, I almost had the contracts split and was told that I would still get the incentives. I ended up not doing it (since its only a 130 point contract and my plan is to add on a few more 100 points ones in the future).

Good luck and happy planning!

You should ask your guide about getting the incentives on the two small contracts as if it were one big contract.

When I did my initial purchase at BLT, I bought 225 also. I broke it up as 175+50. I was able to get the 225 Developer Points Incentive for both 175 and 50 point contracts by simply asking for it that way.

I can't ever see the need to have to sell the 50 point contract, but it's nice to have the option, and you never know how things may change in 10-20-30 years from now.

I got an extra $800 of incentives when my guide found out that I wanted to do a 220 instead of 160 -- doesn't hurt to ask.

Frankly, the only regret in our purchase was purchasing one 200 point contract. It has served us well, but down the line I might like to sell a part of it and buy something else to get the 11 month window there. Had we purchased two 100 point contracts that would be possible. AND should we end up leaving our contract(s) to our two children we could have left one to each... clean and easy.

I'd do smaller. It's extremely likely you'll get the incentives if the total purchase equals the amount needed, I don't recall anyone who said they didn't. If they will allow you to buy 100 pt minimum, do that at 100+75+50. If they hold you to the 160 min, which they likely will do, break it down to 160+65 or 175+50. Unless you think you might want to move 25 points at some time in the future, I wouldn't go under 50 points for an individual contract even though I did for AKV, I was planning to sell 75 later and keep 25 but have changed my mind for now.

My only DVC regret is that I didn't split my 250 BWV into contracts of 150 and 100. I would sell those 100 now and buy 100 at GCV.

This is great! I had no idea there were so many options! Thank you all!
