ITs been my experience that even non smoking rooms seem to stink of cigarette smoke. I am a non-smoker and the smell of it makes me sick, sets off my migrane. I vowed next time I stay in a hotel I am bringing some freebreeze or fresh care spray with me to douse the room. Will this be necessary at a disney hotel? I am staying at POR.

I've never had a problem in a non-smoking room at WDW. One of the good things is that they seperate them by building when possible, and by floor or wing when not, so the smoke from the non-smoking room next door doesn't leech into your room.

I'm very sensitive to smoke also, and have never had a problem. It's actually one of the reasons why we vacation so often at WDW.

I am also very allergic to smoke and can detect it anywhere around me. We stayed at the Contemporary, North Garden Wing overlooking Bay Lake. We were on the 3rd floor and the 1st floor is designated smoking. Never once, in the 5 nights we were there did I EVER detect even a hint of smoke.

As for PO-R, PO-FQ and CBR, those are smoking and non smoking buildings, so you won't have to worry about encountering smoking anywhere in the building, unless you have a smoker staying with a non smoker who insists on smoking in the outside corridor.

Won't a smoke free resort be nice at WDW? Maybe in the future...

Once while on my way from michigan to NY, I stopped to stay the night in a hotel and it was a non smoking room but it stunk of cigarette smoke. Obviously someone had been smoking in the non smoking room, whoever it was that stayed there before me. It was so strong that the smell was on my clothes and I ended up having to wash everything in my suitcase. Ive been a non smoker all my life but both my parents used to smoke and it never bothered me when I was growing up. I would send my kids to my parents house and when I picked them up they would smell of smoke and I would take them home, throw them in the tub and wash all their clothes. Thank god my parents finally quit smoking.

khawk, I know just what you're talking about. It burns me to go into a non-smoking room at WDW and have it stink of cigarette smoke. Obviously on many occassions the folks before us were smoking and just didn't care that they were put into a non-smoking room. Yuck. I get a guaranteed non-smoking room because I get horrible headaches, and sinus pain if I'm around smoke. This is happening more and more in WDW during our trips now. I've also been there and have had to call and have the filter changed in our room, dust will make me miserable too. I wake up with a splitting headache and the dust monsters are usually to blame.

It will only be smoke free if enforced as many guests who smoke book NS rooms and Disney does not seem to enfore the NS situation.

Also at AKL they have been known to move smoking guests into NS rooms due to views and then give them an ash tray and tell them to use the balcony.

I don't think you will ever see a completely smoke free resort due to large numbers of foreigners that smoke.

So true Sammie, I was wishful thinking. As long as people smoke, a smoke free hotel is probably doomed from the get go no matter where it is.

Because our experience was different.

We were told by AKL staff that smoking is not allowed on any balconies (Smoking or non) in this hotel (and only in this hotel).

I've seen people smoking on AKL balconies.

I was just repeating the policy as we were told by front desk staff...no smoking on Savannah balconies.

i travel with my mom who unfortunately is a lifetime smoker and that will probably never change(no matter how hard i try to get her to)--when booking i always request a smoking room even though she never would smoke inside the room due to my son but about half the time they will put us in a non smoking room/building and tell us its ok just"try" to smoke outside the room or on the balcony(depending on where we stayed) i can honestly say that even the smoking rooms we have stayed in never smelled like smoke because i do think that a lot of people choose to smoke outside the room because they are traveling with kids but i do feel bad for people with allergies to smoke because more than likely no matter what you request there will probably be someone smoking due to disneys sorta look the other way on there smoking policies which is a shame for people that may be indirectly affected by this. that said does anyone know what building/floors/are designated smoking rooms for savannah view(i already told my mom she wont even be able to smoke out on the balcony in a smoking room due to the animals so she will probably have a long walk to find somewhere to smoke)and she was actually ok with it---man she must really want to stay at akl!!!
