I am not sure where my original post went but I had an experience this past June where I requested a non-smoking room because of medical reasons(dsughter has bad asthma and my throat will close up) and I was given a smoking room. I just spoke to Jackie at member services and she confirmed that you are not 100% guaranteed a non smoking room even if you say for medical reasons. They will try to get you one first but you may end up with a non smoking one. They may speak to the CM's and make them make you aware that they were not able to meet that request so then you can decide from there. Understand that this will happen very seldom but if it does happen to you, there really is no recource. Most of Disneys resorts are almost 96% smoke free.
Just thought I would report back the response I received from my letter.

I'm sorry that you didn't get a non-smoking room - I wish DVC would making smoking or non-smoking a category so that at least you would know when you reserved what to expect.

Did you by any chance arrive late in the day? I'm thinking that one way for a guest "to control" this is to arrive early when the options may be greater. If you arrived early in the day, I suppose the resort was at 100% occupancy and all the rooms pre-assigned. Still.......seems like they should have been able to do something for you if it was fairly early in the day.

Best wishes -

I was at the front desk at 9am checking because this was a surprise for my daughter and her girlfriend for one night. We had been there for 4 days already so time of check in was not the problem. I was told by the first person that it was non smoking, etc. then to find out when we walked into the room that it was a heavy smoking room was a shock
