Have you ever gotten a HA room or smoking room when you requested Non-HA or non-smoking? Have you ever gotten a non-smoking room when you requested smoking? These things have been addressed in several threads, and I thought it might be interesting to post a poll about it to see what those of us here have experienced.

Sorry, but if non of these have happened to you, there is no vote for you. I meant to put that in, but forgot to. Perhaps a mod can help me edit the poll.

BTW, I have never had any of these things happen to me at DVC, but I have gotten a HA room at a deluxe when I checked in late.

Received a HA OKW GV in January 2004. We didn't even think to request non-HA beforehand. It was in a GREAT location across from HH in one of the new buildings with the elevator. We also had 2 studios in the same building. So, we didn't THINK to request a change. It was more like, walk in - WOW! :earseek: Oh, it's a HA unit - oh, well... Wow! Let's check out the upstairs!!! :Pinkbounc

The walk-in shower in the master bath was kind of annoying. We needed a lot of extra towels just to put on the floor so that the floor wouldn't be wet all the time. The toilet was too high for the kids to use by themselves and there was no storage space anywhere near the 2 sinks.

We lived with it. All the extra toiletries wound up on the shelf of the window opening between the tub and the room. The kids used the toilet in the other first floor bathroom. The jacuzzi tub was no different than a non-HA unit. If we really hated the master shower, we could have used the shower in the outside bath since no one else was using it. But it didn't bother us THAT much and privacy was more important.

The lack of cabinets under the kitchen sick was a minor annoyance and a bit unsightly. The laundry room had elevated FRONT LOADING machines which I LOVE! I think only the HA units (at OKW) have them? Anyone know?

All in all it was a very nice unit - hey it was a GV - even if it was HA and I wouldn't hestitate to stay in that unit again.

Too be honest, I probably wouldn't reserve a GV again for a long time until my kids are grown and will be using one of the upstairs room. The house feel was nice but since my family and I only used the first floor master, I didn't get to enjoy the upstairs at all. Not to mention, it's nice to have some privacy from the rest of the family.

Although, we might be tempted to try the one story BWV GV's one day if lucky because when everything is on one floor, I think it FEELS bigger.

The only time where I would see that getting a HA unit would REALLY be a problem where I might consider asking for a switch instead of just "sucking it up" for that one trip would be a studio unit. It's just too hard not to have a tub to give the girls a bath.

Well, my 2 cents...

The results may be misleading to an extent. Based on the other current thread there are members who receive HA or smoking one out of 30 visits, and others who get them 2 out of 3.

However, we've never had problems and have always received our requests. The only other request we ever make is "near HH" at OKW, and we've always gotten that.

I've gotten HA rooms twice, neither time did I specify non-HA. I was in a studio. We don't take baths so the shower only option was ok.We didn't have a problem with a wet floor - don't know why others do. The bed height was different but DW and I have no opinion one way or the other if it was good or bad- it was just different. We had plenty of drawer & cabinet space.

The HA room was no big deal. If I had a choice I'd take the non-HA room but given the choice of staying in an HA or not getting the ressie I wanted, I'd take the HA.

So far I have been lucky to get my request for non-smoking for medical reasons. Never had a HA room and did not put on my reservation a request not to be assigned one.

your thread was the reason I decided to post the poll. I wish I wouldn't have forgotten to put the last choice in. It was confusing to me to gather the info from your thread, so I thought a real poll would work better. Sorry I messed this one up!

Just a quick comment. We have gotten HA twice. We hadn't made any request either way. As a matter of fact on our first trip to BWV, we paid cash :sad2: (didn't know any better - bought points FAST after that trip!). We got a HA on that very first trip.

I totally realize why folks with toddlers might not want HA. For the rest of you who are now worried after reading all the negative posts I have a thought to share. The showers in the HA units are enormous. Really great for those of you who might want to shower with a friend and save water. We got an HA on our Anniversary trip last year. Sharing the shower was right up there with sharing the jacuzzi! :rotfl:

We were assigned a smoking optional room even though we had non-smoking for medical reasons at BWV. The manager told me it was due to the time we checked in - late in the afternoon. They sent another manager up to the room before we left the desk to verify that it didn't have a stench of smoke in it. They told me she was very sensitive to smoke. The thought it had been a long time since the room had been smoked in. We accepted it with reservations -- however -- they were right. We had no problems in the room.

If we did, it would have been another story.

The structure of your poll makes no sense, and therefore the percentages are utterly confusing. It looks like 70% of the time, you're going to get an HA room, which obviously is not the case.

The problem is that you are trying to measure three completely different things -- apples, oranges, and elephants. You are measuring received a HA room, received a smoking room, and received a non-smoking room.

A better stucture would be different polls:
1 -if you requested a non-HA room, did you get it or not?
2 - if you made no special request, HA or not?
3 - if you requested non-smoking for medical reasons, did you get it or not?
4 - if you requested non-smoking without citing medical reasons, did you get it or not?
5 - if you made no request, did you receive a smoking room or non-smoking?

Those kinds of questions would yield useful data.

Huh ?? Made sense to me.

"received HA when you made no specific request about HA "

To me that meant I got a HA room when I didn't ask for one AND didn't ask to specifically NOT get one. Which is what happened to me. I never thought to ask not to get HA.

I suppose there is no vote for me then. In this case, that's a good thing! :cool1:

I have had HA rooms at Disney and elsewhere without requesting it -- no big deal. I have never received a smoking room and always request non-smoking at DVC and elsewhere.

We have received a HA room the last 3 times we stayed in a DVC resort. IMHO - It is really not a big deal unless you need the bath tub for smaller children. But because we have gotten it so often in teh past, I will request non HA when I bring my young nephew in August.

We always get a one bedroom so the HA room is not an issue, but the request for a non-smoking room is a big one.I remember the first time i was given a SMOKING OPTIONAL room.I had never heard of such a thing either it is smoked in or it's not there is no in between for me.

mikesmom --

There are different types of HA rooms. Not all of the showers are huge. Just last week, I had one of the smaller (3' X 3') showers, and there is no way two people could fit in there -- especially not with the pull-down seat that is attached to the wall.

And yes, despite my best efforts, I flooded the floor. Sigh. :guilty:

Sorry if I offended you with my stupid questions. I realized I should have made them different after I hit the button, but there is no turning back then. Perhaps you could start your own poll on this.

We have recieved an HA room at VWL once but we didn't have any specific requests other than non smoking. I went down to the desk and they moved us right away.
