Non-Partisan Thoughts About Vice-President Cheney

I know that expressing any opinion about our Vice-President carries the risk of igniting a partisan flame war on this site. But I just have to speak up. It shouldn’t matter what your political beliefs are, there are some things we can all agree on despite our political affiliations. So I’m going way out on a ledge here and state for the record:

I’m opposed to our Vice-President shooting old men in the face.

If Mr. Cheney absolutely has to shoot someone in the face, there are lots secret torture prisons run by his government where he can find hapless victims.

If Cheney would rather not go abroad to shoot people in the face, he can always get President Bush to override long standing legal sanctions meant to prevent exactly this type of behavior. Once the President secretly authorizes the shooting of people in the face domestically, Cheney can shoot whoever he pleases.

But until then, I really believe Mr. Cheney should refrain from shooting people. Especially in the face.

Mossman...you've got it dead wrong!! I'm PRO shooting old men in the face!!! How do you like that! They wear their pants way too high, they hog all of the beets on the salad bar, some smell like mothballs, and quite frankly, with Babyboomers aging like there's no tomorrow...there's way too many of 'em out there. I'm crossing the aisle and I applaud VP Cheney for doing what far too few of you bleeding hearts have the testicular fortitude to do!! Cheney for President 2008!!!!

I feel terrible for the whole situation. I'm sure it wasn't intentional and I'm sure it has deeply effected not only the victim but the defendant as well.

You forgot to mention that they drive WAY too slowly and forget to use their turn signals.

Aww.....I'm really hoping the old guy survives---for both of their sakes.

It's not political, it's just that even if he made a mistake or is at fault it wasn't intentional and I hope the man survives. That's not to say that with more information I don't think Cheney should be help accountable for his actions---I just hope the situation doens't get worse.

I couldn't agree more. The last thing this country needs is a teed off Dick Cheney shooting people in the face with shotguns.

If Dick Cheney was allowed to shoot someone in the face every time he got a little angry, Washington DC hospitals would have to open entire new wings to accommodate all the Democrats, journalists, college students, homeless people and puppies that would invariably end up with a face-load of buckshot.

So here's hoping a precedent has not been set. If we start allowing the Executive Branch of government this type of leeway, how long before Whitehouse staffers begin demanding the right to stab their political foes with homemade shivs.

Although it would guarantee higher TV ratings for the next presidential debate! :teeth:

Obviously we know more about Dick Cheney shooting his friend than we will ever know about John Kerry shooting the Vietnamese kid in the back.

Dawn, how much do you know about Laura Bush mowing people down with her car?
Also, Kerry = war hero. Your husband = at war. Voila.

There was a really hilarious editorial today about Cheney's triggerhappiness. I've blanked and I can't find the link, but it described Cheney "accidentally" shooting a variety of people, including Michael Brown - but they were still investigating why Brown was found duct-taped to the wing of Air Force 2? I read it while in a rather formal place, and had to actively restrain my laughter.

War hero to describe John Kerry is at the least debatable. He left his men in Viet Nam under an obscure Navy regulation after he sustained 3 very superficial "injuries". Something most officers would never do. Two of those wounds probaby wouldn't require a bandaid. An editorial is opinion, nothing more.

What possible significance could a teenage traffic accident have?

Apparently, a man in his seventies was struck by a Peter Pan Adventure pirate ship at Disneyworld and flown by helicopter to the hospital on Tuesday.

A 71-year-old man visiting Disney World with his wife and granddaughter fell off a moving walkway leading to a Peter Pan ride and was pinned under a pirate ship that carries passengers through the attraction, an official with emergency services said on Wednesday.
The man, who was flown to a hospital by helicopter after being freed on Tuesday evening, received superficial scrapes and bruises in the accident and was listed in "very stable" condition, said Bo Jones, the deputy chief of Reedy Creek Emergency Services.

He was flown to the hospital yesterday, but emergency services didn't tell the media today?

Hrm.

Obviously, this is a failure of leadership and openness in Captain Hook's administration.

Why the delay in informing the media?
Was Captain Hook drinking while piloting his pirate ship when it ran over the man?
Does Captain Hook have all the necessary pilot's licenses?
Has Captain Hook divested his portfolio of Peter Pan Peanut Butter stock?
Why isn't spokesman Donald Duck being forthcoming about the incident, and why doesn't he wear pants?
The public has the right to know, and Capitain Hook is failing the public. Instead of being the Happiest Place On Earth, we are discovering that Disneyworld is nothing more than a brutal, totalitarian police state run by a madman with blood on his hands.

Um... okay, fine - hand.

Living in Florida I'm all for shooting Coots at the border :teeth:
A wise man once said " old people move to Miami, their parent live in St. Petersburg".
I think we should ship'em all to Phoenix

First let me say that it still disturbs me that one man's military service was mocked by those supporting two people who avoided Vietnam. You can throw all the "he made it the centerpiece of his campaign" junk at me, I still think it's crazy that we could trash someone for going to war.

Back to the topic. I always like that Cheney looked like he could care less that he got the VP job during the 2000 campaign. Although secretive, I think he is extremely honest and sticks to his guns (no pun intended).

However, after his private sector experience and more likely - years of D.C. insulation, he has either forgotten or never realized that he "works" for the citizens of the U.S.

I think the VP had the courage to do something we've all wanted to do while waiting behind one of them in the checkout line listening to him to him complain about the price of bananas while repeatedly asking the cashier to repeat herself because he forgot to turn on his hearing aid.

So yeah I applaud VP Cheney but I have to wonder... since he's also a man of advanced years, who's going to shoot him in the face?
