On our last day at in World we leave for the airport around 3:00pm. Our party is 4 - me, my Wife, and 2 boys - 13 & 15. We plan to spend the morning at Downtown Disney or resort-hopping and I would like to eat lunch somewhere with these thoughts in mind:

1. I'd prefer to not spend a fortune.
2. Something "kinda fun" or unique. (We've done Whispering Canyon for dinner and really enjoyed that.)

Other than that, we're open. So what would you recommend?

Thanks for your help.

Beaches and Cream - Go for the kitchen sink - that would be a perfect way to finish off your trip. $21.99 and I bet all of you won't finish it! :cool1:

Yes - the kitchen sink is a fun idea. Lunch is tough, because most of the non-park restaurants aren't open for lunch (figuring most folks are at the parks).

I'd also think about going to AKL to check it out, see the animals. You could grab something at Mara - a food court, but it has good food.

Another option would be Rainforest Cafe right there at DTD.

Earl of Sandwich would be an inexpensive option. Not exactly a "fun" place, but the food is great and the atmosphere is pleasant.

I would second going to AKL to see the animals and eating at The Mara. You can get some of the "famous zebra domes". Worth the trip, believe me!!

On our last trip, we had a similar situation. We went to the Wilderness Lodge, rented bikes, rode over to the Fort Wilderness Campground, and had lunch at the Trails' End Buffet. It was a lot of fun!

DTD - Earl of Sandwiches, nothing special but the food is very good.

Konas - Never had a bad lunch there, wonderful desserts and a great place to watch the monorails go by.

Beaches & Cream - best burgers on property and the sundaes are very good. Cute little sundae shop.

Trails End over at Ft Wilderness is my favorite way to end a trip...do the petting zoo and wander through the horse barn while you are over there. Nice lunch buffet and very laid back atmosphere...lots of food for $10/person

Also a real out of the way place is the Sand Trap Bar and Grill over at the golf club by Ft Wilderness (Bonnet Creek maybe?)....great burgers and sandwiches, very laid back with spectacular views of the lake and golf courses, not expensive and HUGE portions.

Beaches and Cream is fun if you go early....if you aren't there by 11:15 or so forget it....the wait can be VERY long after that.

I wish someone would have told me to check out AKL before we finally decided to stay there. It is a fabulous resort. That being said, we always go to DTD to shop on our departure day (can't really remember ever eating :teeth: just shopping).

I don't know when you're going, but Raglan Road Irish Pub at DD will be opening sometime this summer. Might be fun to try. ESPN Club on the Boardwalk is nice with two teen-age boys. Sci Fi Dine In at MGM. Beaches and Cream also, but really nothing special except the good ice cream there.

Earl of Sandwich is great, and the sandwiches are really inexpensive. To add the fun factor, have dessert at Ghiredellie's ice cream shop.

I might vote for Rainforest Cafe in DTD... if you want to hang out there. We're big AKL fans... and there are a couple of dining options... the atmosphere is great! :goodvibes

I think The Sand Trap at the Bonnett Clubhouse is one of the best secrets in all of WDW. Great sandwiches, best soup around, very casual and a wonderful view. The lunch entrees run from about $6-10. Just don't tell too many people about it.

We are partial to Wolfgang Puck Express and Earl of Sandwich in DTD, both have very good food.
