Non-members blatantly using facilities

My experience was quite different. We stayed this past May and only on one day of the weekend did they even attempt to do that and it was kind of half-heartedly.

We had the same experience on our BCV stay on June 8-13. My DW and I only used SAB once, but noone asked us for any id. My teenage DS lived at the pool and he said he was only asked for id once.

I know that there are lots of folks who try to break the rules but I also think that a big problem is the CM's themselves. I have been told several times by CM's to go ahead and do things I know are against the rules.
While making reservations I was told it was okay to put 6 in a 1 bedroom. I don't see how you could fit but it was offered.
Last Summer I took 2 of my kids to SSR for a week over the smumer and we had breakfast at Boma. After we walked out to see the animals around the pool. I started talking to a CM and she told me that we should have brung our swim suits with us?!?!?!

I know that the CM's were trying to be so-called customer friendly but it sends mixed messages.

I guess you just have to rely on your better judgement.

I was teaching technology classes last week to some of my coworkers. During a break, we started to discuss our summer vacations. A few folks went to Disney this summer, so we all started to share our memories and favorite things to do. A had some things to get ready, so I moved to a different part of the room.

As I was working, I overheard one of my coworkers tell this story...

"We drove to Disney this summer with our travel trailer. We stay at Disney's campground, so we got a parking tag that lets us park on property. After a few days at the park we were pretty tired, so we decided to take a break. We used the pass to go to a bunch of different resorts. We had our swimming suits on under our clothes. When we got to the guard station, we told the guard that we wanted to look around the resort. They always let us in. We went straight to the pool. We even took a cooler of beer with us. The kids love the slides. You should see all of the pools! Each one is themed differently. We went to about five different pools that day!"

Another coworker interjected: "So you're pool hoppers, huh?"

"Yeah, it's great. In fact, we did it last year for father's day. My husband said it was the best father's day ever!"

By this point, I had about bit through my tongue. Finally I said, "As a Disney Vacation Club member who pays for maintenance at some of those pools, I would like to thank you for taking chairs, towels and pool space away from my family and my fellow members."

She just looked at me. I had to laugh, because I think she could tell that I was not happy about it. She quickly changed the subject.

I'm not sure where they hopped, but if the resorts had slides they had to be at least moderates. I'm guessing with that plan they would try to hit the deluxes, so I'm sure there was likely some DVC overlap.

People just don't seem to get it...

I agree with something DH has said when you pay you get to play.

I also think when the MK closes they should be checking resort ID for the monorails & resort boats.....I pay 400 a night to stay at a monorail resort & you park at the Poly or GF so you don't have to wait on the monorail line for TTC and/or the shuttle for the parking lot?!
Ridiculous!:headache:

hey did at one time.

but stopped - something about not doing it the entire time. either do it the entire time or not at all. something you can thank the ug for suggesting that everyone do this at Disney.

since Disney wants everyone to shop and eat at the monrail hotels - they can't do both.

that is one reason for the parking pass for 3 hours - believe me seem Disney tow cars off too.

No, just want people to "take" what they pay for......

The day I see a car towed I will be the one doing the happy dance:cool1:

I do remember when they used to check room keys for buses & monorails, those we the good old days!:cutie:

I think you took my  the wrong way. I'm sick of the "pixie dust" and "Disney Magic" people throw out when a CM looks the other way or suggests a way that is against the rules. I'm with you 100%.

The monorail was never intended for resort guests only, it was means to get from the TTC to MK and then EPCOT. Then with the addition of all the resorts they needed bus's these were for resort guest and ticket holders to get to and from the hotels and the many resturants. If someone gets on a bus chances are they will spend money when they get off. Parking at DTD and useing SSR bus is a whole different thread and that should be resolved by charging to park at DTD.

We just returned from the Boardwalk and I overheard a disturbing conversation. Some guy was sitting by the pool's edge talking to a woman about how the Boardwalk has the best Disney pool. One word leads to another, and she asks him if he's in the Villas or Inn. He says they aren't staying at any Disney property. They live about eight miles away and use the pool whenever they want. She tells him Disney doesn't allow this and he responds that "Disney would never turn anybody away." When I told my husband, he got angry. Said we've paid over $25K for DVC, and this guy just waltzes in with his family whenever he wants.

Just curious about anyone else's feelings on this? Should I have told someone? Is the guy right: Would Disney look the other way?

Unless its crowded or they are being jerks, I don't really care. That being said, Beach Club has the best pool on property... This guy was obviously crazy.

One of the monorails was designed for the resorts/resort guests only.
It is pretty simple, if you are at WDW for the day or staying off site use the main parking lot and take the MK monorail or one of the ferries that go back & forth.

Parking in the resort lot to use the resort monorail is cheating & stealing perks from those who do spend the money to have the luxury of the monorail at their resort.
The same issues apply to the pools. I have actually reported families who are openly chatting about how easy it is to use the pool and not be staying there or actually live in the area.
The beauty of this is security does remove the family.

Now I'm sure we will hear Disney should check all room keys which I do agree with but families should have a moral code that doesn't allow them to behave in such a selfish manner.

Actually there are two monorail lines, one is the Express for park goers to get from the MK and the TTC and the other is the resort line taking resort guests back to the 3 Monorail resorts.

It is clearly marked as you exit the park.

Another misconception is that the park ticket allows unlimited use of Disney transportation including park to resort. If you research this you will find that this is not printed on the tickets nor is this info listed on the Disney website.

The ticket allows for ticket admittance and park transportation.

On the Disney World site under Ticket FAQ it states that resort guests get unlimited use of Disney World transporation, no where does it state that ticket holders get that.

I'm with Deb. I would report the person to staff. He and his family are using our facilities, which we pay a LOT of money each year to staff and maintain.

Especially if he's a big enough moron to brag that Disney won't do anything, his kids deserve a little "life lesson." It would be good for them to witness him causing his whole family to be embarrassed.

I'd not only tell a CM; I'd tell the CM he's bragging about them not enforcing, and as an owner I expect them to do their jobs. If they didn't throw him out, I'd be looking for the Manager On Duty.

I would have to agree!

I think I'll be the first to say I'll gladly pay a bit more in dues to keep people not staying at the resorts out. Hire a couple security guars to patrol the pools. I'll pay a penny more a point.

I'll second that!:)

I don't think there is anything wrong with anyone visiting resorts they are not staying in. I think everyone should be able to enjoy the sights of the different resorts - take photos, shop and eat at the restaurants. But there is a big difference between this and going to the resorts specifically to swim in the resort pool they are not staying in. I believe the pool is a benefit of the resort/hotel and it's not meant to be used by others.

As many have said that if you pay for the stay then you should get the benefits. It's exactly like belonging to any membership. If you don't pay for the memberships, then you do not have the right to it's benefits. I don't think these people would go to the World of Disney and expect 10% off their purchase if they don't have an AP. (I know in this case you always have to show your card) But the idea is the same, this benefit is for those who have paid for the APs.

Although, the stories on here show that they know they are not allowed to go to the pool, I think there are still a few adults who do not think that this is wrong. I walked by a family a few vacations ago where the father was telling his kids that they are going to some pool (not remember which) for the afternoon and one of the kids (I believe the youngest one - I remembered because when I spoke to my husband, I found it surprising that it was a 5 or 6 year old who said it) that he didn't think they were allowed to go to the pool unless they were staying there. I was only able to hear the first part of what the father said: " no, we are allowed since we are in Disney, this is all Disney...so we're okay...." I looked back and the son didn't look reassured, but what is he suppose to say. :sad2:

So I think the CM's should be a little bit more diligent with enforcement and signs around the pool. And although they may get a few unDisneylike responses from visitors, the policy is there to benefit the resort guests.:thumbsup2

12 pages on this!!!!!!

The DVC boards ability to beat a subject to death never fails to amaze me.

IF this much attention was paid to the world's big issues just think what we could do!:rotfl:

When riding the monorail, there is (or has been) an official announcement that the resort monorail has longer operating hours (after park closure) that you can continue to use instead of the express-only monorail.

But early in the AM, it doesn't stop at the MK at all until just before the park opens. I rode the resort monorail way back in 2004 when my husband did the half marathon for the first time. We took the monorail from Epcot to the TTC about 6:10AM and then took the resort monorail to the MK, only it didn't stop at the MK. So we took the Epcot monorail back to Epcot and then turned around to see if we could see him running through the TTC.
