Non-DVC member here with a question

Is there any way at all to find out what's open to rent? I was going by the DVC board here and what was listed unavailable in October, but when I approached some potential renters to see if they still had points, they told me the dates weren't available. I don't want to keep contacting people and getting my hopes up if none of the dates are possible. I know that most likely, there's no way for a non-DVC member to tell if anything's open for your dates, right? Probably the availability board here is as close as we can get?

I was so disappointed; if I go in to the Walt Disney World resort page and try to get a reservation for "Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary" through there, I can get a studio for the length of my entire trip; but if I try to rent points, nothing is open! I, unfortunately, can't afford BLT without renting points, so I kind of had my hopes up when I saw it was "bookable", thought it might be "rentable" as well! It's ok, I just was wondering for future reference.

not without calling MS. and they won't speak to non-members.

as you have discovered, the availability board is probably more useful for telling you what isn't available than what is.

cash inventory is completely separate from pts inventory.

generally speaking, DVC rentals are a bad choice for short notice trips. (and short notice can be as far as 4-5 months out.) timeshares tend to book up a lot more quickly than hotels as waiting can cause a member's pts to go to waste. if you are less than 4-5 months out, you should generally expect that most DVC resorts will be booked except for the much larger resorts like SSR and OKW.

i got on david's mailing list which recently suggested certain dates that might be open in november for SSR, but generally there's no way to know unless a DVC member calls in and asks.
