Any non-Disney wedding favor ideas to share?

I did a search and read through a lot of Disney themed threads.

I'm looking for a favor that can be made from wood. DH can design and make anything from wood, but I'm looking for an idea.

DH's cousin's husband's father made little wooden picture frames (like wallet-photo sized) and woodburned their info on it...

How about a donation to your favorite charity. We are printing cards for each table that will say something like...in leiu of favors, we have made a donation to _____________ .
When I look around my house-I really don't have many favors from other peoples weddings-I usually toss them.

whats your wedding theme?

ie yacht club, you could do wood carved anchors etched with guest names & double them as placecards.

ie christmas time, a wood carved ornament.

When I look around my house-I really don't have many favors from other peoples weddings-I usually toss them.

We went the charitable donation route. We chose to make a donation to the LiveSTRONG campaign. We had two very close childhood friends die in 2005 from cancer, and each was actively involved with LiveSTRONG. When we thought about other family members and friends we knew fighting cancer or had died from it, we realized they all embodied the LiveSTRONG ideals. We also liked that it wasn't specifically about one form of cancer- it was everything. We made a donation to the LiveSTRONG foundation, and they used only part of that money to send us the number of bracelets we needed.

We wrote up tags that went with the bracelets that read:

Dear Friends and Family,

We have chosen a special way to say thank you for sharing our wedding day with us…one that makes a lasting difference.

In lieu of traditional favors, we have made a donation in your honor to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The Lance Armstrong Foundation believes that in the battle with cancer, unity is strength, knowledge is power, and attitude is everything. Donations to the Lance Armstrong Foundation help to fund education, advocacy, and research programs needed in the fight against cancer. ​

Please note we got a lot of this was directly quoted from the website. We used the opening line from another wedding we attended (who was not attending our's! )
