July, Aug and Sept are the hottest months at WDW - the temperature can and sometime does get over 100 degree.

do people actually go camping in the hotest time at WDW. this is tent camping no air conditioning.

YES!!! Some people have portable AC units for their tents. Some hang out at the parks/pools during the heat of the day. I have a small pop-up camper with A/C. Disney may allow reserving "throw away campsites" but it's cheating.

Yep!! We do go tent camping in July. (We also bring an air conditioner for our tent!!)

There are also tiny campers that can use the partial hookup sites, many of which have air conditioners.

This issue speaks volumes of an epidemic problem. We go to Disney to give our kids a good time, and while we are doing it we teach them that a few extra hours of fun for them is worth ruining someone else chance to even get to Disney. There are alot of people who can ONLY afford to travel to the Fort and tent camp. They can't afford to stay anywhere onsite if they are not able to tent camp at the Fort.

What a lesson to teach kids...our wants not needs trump others needs. Its all about us.

Hey, I know what.... the next time you guys want to buy a "throw away" campsite.... we campers will just set up tents, trailers, and motorhomes in the parking lot of your resort forcing you to park blocks away from the building. We'll bathe in your pool and brush our teeth in the lobby rest room. When we're finished and on our drive back home, we'll stop off at your house and camp in your front yard.... And you know, we'll probably have to pull a "cousin Eddy" (you know from Christmas Vacation) and take care of that tank that has all of a sudden become full....

Sounds pretty stupid doesn't it? Well imagine how we feel.... There are not thousands of spaces to camp at WDW. On occasions in order to get the dates that we want to visit or can visit, we have to call every day from anywhere to a year or more in advance, often times having to piece together several reservations just to get one linear week in one site without having to be moved.

Imagine if you will, we finally do get in after being told the resort is completely sold out, and we look around and there are literally empty campsites everywhere. Oh my bad, those must be some of those throwaway sites....

I guess some family will not be able to camp at Fort Wilderness because there was no availability.

I think us campers should contact management and ask that the same rules that apply at other campgrounds should also apply at Fort Wilderness, and that is that you must have a unit of some type, whether tent, camper or otherwise on the site to keep the reservation. This may stop some of the inconsiderate non-campers from reserving "throw-away" campsites. I'm sure once Disney realizes that these empty sites are not bringing in more people to spend more money in the parks etc, they will be happy to change to a more fair way of doing this. I know when you reserve and check in, you tell them what kind of unit you have. Does this mean you lied to get in? Great thing to teach your kids, it's OK to lie and cheat as long as it's good for you. ...ahh, but you don't feel bad...says it all. You obviously don't have the "Disney Magic."

I am not a camper, but I would never consider booking a campsite and not using it, no matter how much money I saved. It isn't fair to the people who enjoy camping. Just because it is allowed doesn't make it right. So many people only think about themselves and not how their decisions impact others.

I understand that Disney is expensive and that some people really need to cut expenses to the bone in order to be able to afford to go, but at what point are you being selfish and inconsiderate? I think this is past that point.

Money talks at Disney and when Disney realizes the lost revenue that another family actually using the site would bring in, they'll change it. GOOD!

It is probably costing Disney a few hundred dollars of potential revenue each room night. Not only are they not getting any additional park patrons, but these are people who should be booking at a Disney hotel rather than an offsite hotel. So they may be losing 2 roomnights per day at at a "value" hotel which is a few hundred a night. They also lose the meals revenue. They lose the park admissions and meals of the campers who were locked out. Never mind the room cost off site as that money does not go to Disney. They do not care about that. I bet this loophole is closed once they figure this out.

I'm with you... I'm not a camper either, and would not consider doing this to save a few bucks and still get EMH. I have to say it sounds like a lot of effort to achieve what in the scheme of things is probably a minor savings. Sort of like parking at DTD to avoid the parking fees at the parks.

Why yes we do. Some of us even have AC for our tents. It is possible and there are several options for it. By several people booking July 4th only it prevents others who want to camp the entire week from being able to do this.

A simple policy, much like other campgrounds have, of only allowing a minimum 3 night stay over holidays would stop the abuse. It would not be as appealing to have to pay for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Sometimes I think the DISboard should be subtitled the "how to cheat the system" board. There are always posts on here about people's "great" ideas on how to work loopholes in Disney rules to their advantage. I never would've thought of booking a reservation I wasn't going to use before coming to this board. Personally, a few extra hours in the park is not worth the $63, or the time it will take to accomplish this. Waking up at the crack of dawn to drive all over Disney property is not something I want to do on vacation.

Glad to hear that someone sent this over to Disney! While I have never stayed at FW, I would NEVER want to ruin another's vacation (or chance for one) by doing this.
