I heard on a podcast that Disney also exchanges their vacation points with 500 other resorts worldwide. But I have not been able to find a list of these other resorts. I am especially interested in resorts in India.

I think there's only one in India and that is in Goa

II only has 2 resorts in India total and if I recall correctly, only one is on the DVC list. RCI by comparison has 78 resorts, 11 of which are gold crown.

RCI has a really nice selection. Is it possible to trade DVC points for RCI points? Or vice-versa? I would expect to visit WDW about every other year and then India in years we are not at WDW.

You can't trade into RCI with DVC points, and at any rate, using your DVC points to go to India every other year would probably be a very poor value.

And, there's no guarantee at all that there will even be any II trading opportunities in India in the future. Resorts come and go from DVC's list of available II resorts all the time.

Instead, you should purchase enough DVC points for your every-other-year trips to WDW, and just bank points in the off-year . You'll only need to buy half as many points this way.

Pay out of pocket for your India trips, or invest in an RCI timeshare that will let you trade into resorts in India.

And, correct me if I'm wrong Dean, but the fact that the one resort is on the DVC lists doesn't necessarily mean you can actually stay there - just that you can request a trade there.

A resort in India can easily be $300-400/night (so I figured it was comparable to a WDW resort).

Since DVC trades with II and these are mostly RCI resorts, you couldn't do this directly. But you could get something that trades with II and RCI though I doubt it'd be worth two memberships for just one week. Likely your best option would be to buy something in RCI, possibly points, and then buy enough DVC points for your needs. I did search for II and RCI for next summer and both companies have availability though mostly studios and more for RCI than II as one might expect given the above.

That's right, all exchange options are subject to availability, DVC to DVC included. I'm afraid I don't know India well enough to formulate a relative chance of success for the area but one should try to find those that are to gather more information.

I would think most timeshares would be in places like Goa, beach resorts.. not so much in other tourist destinations.

It's a balance since good real estate in the top places is so very expensive. Companies like Fairfield and to a degree, Bluegreen, have made a killing putting great resorts in good places. Look at the Smokies, Branson, Williamsburg, even Orlando as examples in the US. Within DVC both HH and VB bear that out to a degree.

Bogmallo Beach Resort is in Vasco. It's the only one listed under Interval Intl in India, and is in Goa.

If you are not familiar with the area, it's near the airport in Dabolim. Personally, not my favourite area or one I would necessarily recommend for a longer resort stay. Feel free to PM me if you need more detail, but it sounds like you are familiar with India in general?

I just looked at RCI's list for India; they have 77 properties listed, in a wide range of locations and types of accommodation. Remember, India is a large country! I would suggest to the OP that RCI seems to have the most distribution and variety available based on a quick check of the more traditional timeshares

I am not that interested in Goa (seems to be more of a hippy and Euro destination). Kerala, perhaps. But there are a lot of extremely nice resort hotels in places like Jaipur, Udaipur, in Uttranchal (hill country) and even near Delhi that I would be most interested in. There is also a boom of luxury "green" resorts in various forests and hill areas all over the country.

RCI seems to fit those needs, based on what I have seen on their website.

Goa is actually quite diverse, but is sort of 'India-lite' in reputation, mainly due to the Portuguese history and influx of European travellers. It is no longer the 'flavour of the month' for German tourists, but UK visitors are still active there.

As with anywhere, you can make the vacation as you wish it to be - I never saw a single hippytype tourist in all the weeks that I was there (but then I rarely saw another caucasian, and did not seek them out either)

India is so diverse that I would personally choose something which would let me visit a lot of areas. I loved the Himalayan hill top retreat on the RCI site - would love to see that some time!

To the OP, if you do not already own DVC points, you may want to look at buying a timeshare that trades in both II and RCI. Although I am no expert, Worldmark is a points based TS that fits this description. Join The Timeshare Users Group (TUG) and go to their BBS to talk to the real experts about all your options.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

When I looked the other day they had 78 listed, today there are 77, sometimes resorts come and go with both II and RCI.

With RCI the resorts are scattered throughout the country. You can to to rci.com and go to the directory which has a mapping tool to see where many of the resorts are located. With RCI, but not II, you can even get the ratings (Gold Crown, etc) as a non member.
