Always looking for an excuse to cruise, I found a great deal through Dreams Unlimited on this repositioning cruise.

My friend Carolyn and I and our families went on this tropical cruise. It was 2 husband and wife teams and 3 boys (10, 9, and 5). On Saturday, we flew from Newark to San Juan. It was an uneventful flight and Continental actually served a hot meal (and it was edible). When we arrived in San Juan, we headed down to Old San Juan and spent the night in the Wyndham Old San Juan. It was a 3 star hotel which was right across from where the cruise ships depart. The kids thought it was "cool" because there was a pool up on the roof of the hotel. The pool was small, but no one else was in it. There was a hot tub that we decided to use and it was very nice. Additionally, there was a small workout room on the top floor also. Rooms were more than adequate, and very clean. There is a casino in the hotel but I did not use it. I would definitely stay here again if it was for the night before departing on a cruise.

Carolyn and her family had reserved a regular room (their rate was $129/nite plus tax). We elected to take a room on the concierge level ($159/nite plus tax). Rooms were identical. We both had a view of the harbour and were able to watch the cruise ships departing late on Saturday, and arriving early on Sunday). The concierge lounge was nothing special (I've been spoiled by Disney concierge). You had to pay for all sodas and beer. Breakfast was a basic continental breakfast. If I were to go again, I would most likely get a regular room.

Went over to the Condado (section in San Juan) to do a "check-it out" kind of thing. I liked the Marriott resort alot. Maybe I'll go spend time there one day.

We headed back to Old San Juan, and boarded the Celebrity Horizon. This is a mid sized ship from 1990. Since it is older, it's not as glitzy, but the service and cuisine were superb. This is my 13th cruise, DH's 4th, and Carolyn and family's 1st cruise. We found our cabins and then went looking for... FOOD!!!! Got dressed for dinner and ate more food. Went and saw the evening show with the Celebrity dancers and then ate some more.

We departed San Juan on Easter Sunday, and arrived in St. Thomas on Monday. Spent a few hours there and did some shopping. Boarded back on the ship and had a few cocktails and hung by the pool.

Tuesday, we were at sea all day. Hung out by the pool and made sure to find food at every opportunity (we were constantly eating). Water was rough and hubby was sick. He was downing Dramamine and stayed in the cabin that night.

Wednesday, we arrived in Bermuda at 6 pm. We were supposed to arrive at 1 pm. We walked around St. George and found a beautiful cove called Tobacco Bay Beach. The kids were in the water, while we sat and enjoyed some cocktails. We ended up eating at a lovely outdoor cafe close to the ship.

Thursday, we got up early and headed over to Crystal Caves to see the Stalagtites and Stalagmites (my son loved this). We then headed over to Hamilton so I could find seasickness patches. Of course we shopped and found souveniers and then headed back to the ship.

We departed St. George at 3:30 pm and headed for New York.

Friday, we were at sea, and it was too chilly to go in the pool, but warm enough to be out on deck. We gambled a bit and played Bingo. DH won at Blackjack, and then I lost it all on slots.

Saturday we arrived in the Port of New York and had to depart the ship and headed home.

The food and service were outstanding on the cruise ship. The ship was immaculate. The entertainment was okay. Drinks were very tasty.

This was my second time cruising on Celebrity and I would definitely cruise with them again.

Sounds like a great cruise Vicky! How convenient that it returned to NYC so that you did not require round trip air fares!

Bermuda is a wonderful island! Were there programs on board ship for kids and/or teens too?

Thank you so much for sharing your trip here!! :)

Thanks for asking me to share it Carol :)

Bermuda is my absolute favorite island. If I ever get to Hawaii, that just might change.

Since I loathe flying, I was happy to only have to fly one way.

There was a children's room on the ship which held 40 children. Except for this holiday week....

There were 420 children on this sailing. Celebrity brought extra counselors onto the ship to accomodate the overload. This was definitely the "weakest" children's program I have seen on a ship, but that does not mean it was bad. All 3 boys were in different groups, and all 3 enjoyed the activities that were available to them. They would have them in different areas of the ship at different times. they utilized all the public areas. I especially enjoyed watching the little ones dressed in Pirate gear, going through the ship, hunting for treasure.

I found your trip report very interesting. Thanks for posting :smooth:
