DS has never been camping and hes been bugging us to death to go. Now, let me put it right out there that I am not a happy camper. Ive tried it. Didnt work out so well. DH & I had every intention of becoming campers once upon a time. We bought all the best equipment and headed off on our first trip, with a beautiful weather forecast and a state park with good amenities. An unexpected cold front blew in it was 23 degrees the first night. I slept in the car the second night. We were told there were great restroom facilities. Only problem is they were half a mile from the campsite
and the plumbing was broken. I had to get up in the middle of the night to
um
use the facilities. Had to go in the woods. In the dark. There was a coyote howling somewhere. Did I mention it was 23 degrees?? The camping gear went into a garage sale the next weekend. Now my idea of roughing it is a hotel that doesnt provide a hair dryer and room service.
Wellll we were staying at WL last weekend for the first time in 8 years. On our first day the bus picked us up to go to Epcot but went to Fort Wilderness first. Drats. I had forgotten they share a bus. I had conveniently not mentioned to DS that WDW had a campground. And go figure we saw 2 deer on the way there and then saw all the horses in the stable area when we pulled up. You can just imagine what Ive been hearing ever since then.
Now, I would do almost anything in the world for DS, even throw myself in front of a Disney bus but camping???
Is it completely delusional to think that someone with a solid camping-phobia could have a good time? Or even survive?? I need someone to give me the cold, hard truth about camping at WDW. The good, the bad, the ugly
the plumbing...
And if your honest advice includes me telling DS that his mom is better off just re-booking at the WL, that's okay...I can take it.
