Hi Everyone,

I have just come back fom 4 days over xmas at OKW, like many of us on this board we are DVC Members.
However my trip was completly ruined by the people in the 1 Bed next door who were unbelievably noisy ( We Had a studio).
It started when we were arriving at our studio - we were putting up decorations and the tree etc.
They were arriving at the same time as us - I thnk there was MUm, Dad 2 kids and 2 other adults.
anyway the whole of the afternoon o the 23rd all we could hear were these people - banging drawers, screaming ,shouting etc.
We decided to leave it and thought it would get better.
However after 5 hours of this i complained to front desk.
Front desk manager came up to room after the 10.00 time had passed and told them to be a bit quiet.
Xmas eve they were in the room a lot of the day but were a little quieter, however at 12.00 midnight we were woken up by a chorus of M I C K E Y M O U S E on the walkway outside.
I went outside only to find that this was Grandama and another adult - not even a child in sight !!!
And so it continued throughout our stay.
Needless to say the trip was ruined because my husband AND i were stressed to heck all the rest of the time.
Can I just say that I am not against people having a good time ,lord knows I enjoy myself when I go to disney but some people have no consideration for other people sometimes.
What do other people think about this??

Please do not get me wrong - I love disney -I love OKW but does anyone think that there should be a policy to deal with disruptive people during the day instead of waiting till 10.00pm.

Just interested in your thoughts

Sarah.

When I first saw the title of your post I thought of the towel between the adjoining door trick. I didn't realize how bad it was. I don't how else to handle it.Except to call the front desk. In this age of crazies I wouldn't approach anyone so out of it that they can't reconize how inappropriate they're being.
I hope someone has some good ideas.
Sorry your trip was spoiled.

I know how stressful extremely noisy neighbors can be. I would have put a towel and as many extra pillows as possible in the space between the adjoining doors. All resorts can be noisy, especially as people come and go when the parks close late.

But for every "noisy" rip I've had there have been about 6 wonderful trips...it just works out that way sometimes. You did the right thing by calling the front desk.

Boy do I have sympathy for you. We just returned from a 6 day stay at Boardwalk. We stayed in a studio - quiet neighbors all of the nights except the last night. I returned at 11:00pm from the Magic Kingdom alone - my husband and friends stayed later. I was really tired and all I wanted to do was go to bed. Well our "guests" next door must have checked in earlier that evening. From 11:00 until 12:30pm, there was kids screaming, jumping off the couches, father talking on his phone about some business deal, mother yelling that she couldn't hear the tv, and then Grandma shows up, exclaiming, "don't you just love, love, love this place". My husband then opens our door, and says, what the heck is going on? - you can hear these people all the way down the hall!! Talk about clueless!! We called Guest Services 3 times, They "yes" "yes"d us the first two times, promising to take care of it. When nothing happened, my husband told them to move us because we weren't putting up with this crap all night, as we had an early flight!! Guest Services said "this time it will be settled". Well after about 10 minutes - dead silence!! Don't know what Disney threatened them with..

You know you pay a lot of money staying in Disney World, you're tired after walking miles and miles a day; the last thing you want is a party next door at midnight..Granted, it will never be noise-free, but have some consideration!!

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. How aggravating. It's hard when you act in a respectful manner and other people do not. We stayed in a 2bedroom villa at VWL back in Sept, a group of 7 of us. Since we were travelling with our children (13 months and 5 at the time) we stayed in the second bedroom. My grandmother on the pullout sofabed and we gave my parents the master bedroom. Well, the VERY first night we were there the people in the room next to the master bedroom had their TV blaring ALL night long! It kept my poor dad up. He finally got so annoyed he actually called the room. The woman that answered the phone was obviously drunk and had been sleeping, she wasn't even watching the TV!!!! My dad just told her to turn it off and thankfully, she did. But it ruined his first night of sleep unfortunately.

Then there's always those people with small children that keep them out until all hours and then let them run screaming down the halls. That REALLY gets on my nerves!!!

I hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your trip!

So, aside from having 6 in a 1 br...............and 4 adults you think?

Anyway - so sorry this had to occur on your trip!

My opinion is that during the day - there's not much to be done. People are awake generally and yes there is noise - just like noise at the parks, at the pool etc.

But once you get past 10-11pm, when most adults are going to sleep and kids should be (well, OK, maybe not at disney) everyone should be respectful, and if they are not, then they should be called and reminded.

Sorry you had a rough week. :( While people are going to be noisy, especially during the day, calling the front desk after 10pm for those being rudely rowdy is a VERY good idea.

One thing I have learned is that I can't control others, so I have to find a way to fix MY end of a problem. With noise, we ALWAYS have ear plugs with us. Whether its a noisy toilet, or partying neighbors I have the power to fix the problem myself. No ruined trips, and no lost sleep! ::yes::

I feel your pain..............last summer we had extremely noisy guests above us. They were running and screaming until 3 AM despite numerous attempts by security to quiet them down and numerous complaints by surrounding neighbors. DH wanted to sell after that!! If it happens again he will definetly sell!!! The summer before we had someone that loved to flush the toilet all the time!!!!! Our first trip years ago was also distrupted by loud noise until 3 AM.

We love to have fun but there is a limit. We also love our quiet enjoyment especially at 3 AM.

It was just so frustrating that on both these occasions our days following the incidents were disrupted as we slept late and didn't get to the parks early as planned!!

It's unfortunate that there are not rules about quiet time!!! Or if there are, they are not enforced!!!

We always take ear plugs when traveling. You never know when you are going to need them!

While I can respect a persons desire to go to bed at 10 PM I reserve the right to party until 2 or 3 AM in the morning. Of course we keep our noise level reasonable, but I have the right to watch my TV, sit on my balcony and drink like a fish, or sing Micky Mouse in a moderate voice on my way back from Pleasure Island. I am talking about moderate noise levels. If you, like me, are a light sleeper and want to go to bed at 10 PM maybe you should bring a white noise machine, a sleep aid, or earplugs to help you sleep. I don't have small children and have no intention of being in bed at 10PM unless my husband and I are carrying on extracurricular activities.

:rotfl:

I have never encountered noise yet. However, I'm only 2 Disney hotels and 1 DVC trip in. I'll have to see how this summer's trip goes.

Hey DivaMom,

Which comes first, drinking like a fish or singing Mickey Mouse?
And, if you don't mind, just what is your home resort?

I'm a little surprised by the OP's post. I didn't think any of the retired folk at OKW stayed up past 10:00 P.M. ;)

What a disappointment! I've only had this happen once and never at WDW. I'd send a letter in and express your disappointment. The staff should've helped out a little more.

I feel terrible for you because i have been in a similar situation.I truly beleive people today are getting more rude and obnoxious then ever before.I also feel the front desk should have and enforce a policy to handle disruptive guests.

It seems that nearly every vacation that we've been on (Disney or not), we end up next to fighting couples.

The worst was back in 2000 at the WL. It was about midnight & my hubby & DD were sleeping soundly. Our "neighbors" were coming back from heaven only knows where, and ended up in the worst argument I've ever heard between a couple.

They were fighting about how his mother was controlling everything and trying to control the kids. He responded by saying that she's done nothing but B***h for years about taking the kids to WDW & she should be thankful that his mom was footing the bill, because they couldn't afford it......It went on & on. The kids in their room were crying....My family woke up in no time flat....

There were bumps, bangs and many not so nice words.....

We ended up calling the front desk & they handled it promptly.....
