Hi my wife and I are currently at okw in a studio. Yesterday when we arrived we tried to take a quick nap and our neighbors were being extremely loud. I know it's disney and there will be kids everywhere but even the adults next door were being loud and not attempting to quiet their kids. I already politely mentioned the issue to the front desk and now at 5am today they're being noisy again. What should I do?

If they are not leaving, I suppose we would try to move. I'm sorry to hear of your trouble.

Walk up to the front desk and ask to speak to the Manager on call. See when they are leaving, and if not today ask to be moved or ask that they call their room to request consideration for their neighbors.

:) We were at Pop one time and the children next door on the ground floor were unbeleivably loud--screaming about the mom combing thier hair. The next morning even DH thought it was obnoxious. So we called the front desk, they sent security I guess...we heard the knock. No more noise.

During the middle of the day, I wouldn't think that people would feel the need to quiet their kids or themselves, but certainly 5 a.m. it should be a different story. I don't think we've ever had a trip where noise didn't bother us -- either people being extremely loud in the hallways while returning from the parks at night or heading out in the early morning..

that stuff happens with my neighbors where I live.. it just is hate to say it but really hard to control others behaviors

Noise has been much worse in OKW studios since they removed the living room carpeting from the adjoining 1 bedroom units. There are no soft goods to absorb the sounds, and it is now echo-y. The sounds really bounces off those laminate floors.

Try folding a towel such to fill the space under the connecting door. This will help muffle the noise. Not the best fix but it helps. The space under the door lets much of the sound come in.

When we have had overly noisy neighbors, we just stand close to the connecting door and say...'Quiet down Katie. Use your indoor voice. There are people all around us and they don't want to hear you!!'
Now, my dd has never actually had to be shushed, but that's what we say when neighbors are loud. And it has worked, every single time.

The new floors and the door placement in the lock offs at OKW make it worse.

Another reason I love SSR. They should all have the foyer to keep the door removed from the sleeping area of the studio.

This is what I would do...:thumbsup2

Wow, that's pretty passive aggressive

I wonder if this will work on the Transportation Board... :rotfl:

As for the topic at hand, I might try to introduce myself to the next door neighbors (such as they are) on the next available opportunity (as they come out or go in, at the bus stop, etc), as sometimes if we know someone it is easier to communicate the issue. For instance during the conversation, I may say that we like to nap from 2-4PM or we like to sleep in til 8 AM before getting up. This puts the thought in the back of their minds that someone next door may be sleeping, so they may try to be more cognizant of being extra loud :confused3

Can't hurt.

I actually think this is a good way to handle it! Something we may use in the future.

When the noise is from the adjoining unit (we are the ones in the 1 bedroom instead of the studio), I usually just move to the master to get away from it.

Woke up to extremely loud noise again this morning around 5:30am. Called front desk again they transferred us to security. Security said they'd check the building, an hour later noise was getting even worse! Finally now front desk has moved us to a different room.

Thank you to all of you who gave advice

Well, I guess it could be passive-aggressive. BUT....most people, especially those rude enough to be making that much noise to begin with, aren't happy to have someone ask them to be quiet..especially from security!!
I imagine that if my way of trying to get quiet doesn't work (although it always has...just saying), you can call the front desk and ask for a new room.

Oh, and I sort of use that tactic over on Transportation...haven't you noticed??!!!:rotfl2:

Even pre-update, normal levels of conversation in one side of the lockoff at OKW are clearly audible in the other.

Sweet dreams!

One of the reasons we haven't given OKW a try so far is that all of its studios and 1 bedroom villas are lock offs. None of them are dedicated. I know neighbors are the most probable cause of noise at most resorts & hotels.

Even though all of the 2 bedroom villas at the BWV are lock offs, the BWV also have several dedicated studios and 1 bedroom villas. I always ask for a dedicated villa and so far, at the BWV, we have been very lucky!

We did stay in a lock off 1 bedroom at BLT, but I have to say that the placement of the connecting door at BLT is a big improvement over the older DVC resorts' designs. I know our neighbors at BLT had small children and either they were 100% perfectly quiet little angels for our entire stay or the lock off design just didn't transmit it.

:)

If I remember correctly, we had a lockoff 1BR at BCV this past Fall. The door's placement at BCV seems at least a little bit better than at OKW, where the lockoff door is directly facing the hallway to the master. I'm not sure who was in the studio side (if anyone) but it was pretty quiet.
