Hi. I had posted a question about certain staterooms and now I realize that my question should be the comparison between Deck 7 Forward vs Deck 2 Forward staterooms.

As a background we've only stayed in the Deck 7 or 8 Forward staterooms. We felt the thrusters during docking (mostly the last morning). It wasn't too bad, but it was noticeable. I was wondering if it's about the same on Deck 2 or much more intense.

So, I would very much appreciate it if anyone who have stayed on both Deck 7 (or 8) Forward staterooms AND Deck 2 Forward staterooms, can please let me know if the vibration is similar on both decks or there is a considerable difference in intensity on Deck 2.

Thank you.:-)

Ive been on deck 2 aft on the Magic, and you can feel/hear them every time they used they used them. Your 50 feet closer to the thruster tunnels on deck 2 then deck 7. Foward is a slightly different story as the cabins stop before they get near the thruster tunnels. The thruster tunnels are actually in the bulbous bow and more isolated from the cabins then the aft cabins, which are right over them.

I was on deck 7 Aft 2 weeks ago on the Wonder and I had the most vibration I have ever felt- and it was not during docking. I actually mentioned it in my stateroom report.
We normally stay on deck 2 and I have rarely noticed it on that deck. The vibration did not bother me- but very noticeable. I told my DH that it felt like the 70's magic finger vibrating beds. LOL!

I have heard that the aft staterooms do have more issues with the vibrations. We've never stayed in the Aft since we prefer the Forward staterooms - we found them less busy and rarely heard hallway noise...we did have a herd of elephants stay in the stateroom above us once, but most movements were during the day. Anyway, thanks for both your posts.

trunk1 - thanks for the info about the front thrusters...I did read something to that effect. Perhaps that's why the reviews show more tolerance for the vibration in the Forward staterooms than the Aft ones.

Regarding the aft vibration on the Fantasy, We did the Eastern last week. I took a walk on the various aft decks.

While at sea with a 8 to 10 foot swell on the port bow, she had a sway, which would be normal.

When the seas were better and she was rolling a bit 3 or 4 degress, no sway or vibration.

Docking with the aft side thrusters going she was vibrating, which would be expected.

Since There have been so many guests reporting the cabin vibrations, I beleive there is indeed some unusual Vi
Bration in the aft cabins I just didn't feel it with my little limited testing.

Guessing here, but my guess would be she has a blade or two with a nick or out of tirm/alinement.

It's funny you ask because just today I was reminding my kids about the vibrations when we stayed aft on Deck 2 of the Wonder. I don't remember when it was, but one day they were so bad my kids jokingly yelled "earthquake!" and squeezed themselves into the space between the couch and the coffee table. It was pretty hilarious. And loud. And vibraty. Anyway, it was certainly during times when we were awake, so no big deal. It bothers me more on the Fantasy and on the Dream when we cross the Gulf Stream overnight. We have always stayed aft (but higher on the new ships), so vibrations are just part of the experience for me.

I appreciate all the comments about the aft vibrations. It does sound like it's an issue there. However, I was wondering about the Forward staterooms. My question was about the Deck 7 Forward staterooms vs Deck 2 Forward staterooms. I did feel vibrations when we stayed on Deck 7 Forward so I was wondering if it's the same or noticeably much worse on Deck 2 Forward.

Has someone stayed on both Deck 7 Forward and Deck 2 Forward staterooms that can let me know if they notice a difference between these two locations based on the vibrations during docking?

All vessels, during manuvering , especailly those with thrusters have vibrations. Mostly fore and aft, but often just about anywhere.

Ships vibrate, it's just part of the operation of the massive machine.

It just part of cruising.

Yes, I completely agree. I didn't mind it when I stayed on Deck 7 Forward.

But is the vibration much worse on Deck 2 Forward than Deck 7 Forward? Or about the same? I would love to hear from those who can compare the two. Since I have stayed on Deck 7 Forward numerous times, I can get an idea of what Deck 2 will be like.

Sounds like a plan.

I didn't explore rhe.vibrations forward. Sorry I cannot help.there.

Thank you. :)

Hello TS,

I have been implying that conclusion for years. Being flamed regularly for those same conclusions made years ago.

A prop or shaft out of balance. No? ? ? , you think? ? ? . :lmao:
It has been so obvious for years, at least to those that sail the vessel often. :scratchin

Obviously this is not a factory defect. This occurred after the sea trials, and hand over to DCL.
So where did the Fantasy "nick" its prop?

That's the question.

I have an idea. :duck:

Fwiw the vibration is getting worse in certain seas. It is not getting better.
While aboard ....
You can feel the Bridge adjusting the power in certain seas to try to alleviate the vibration and comfort pax.
You even see Officers in the aft accessing the magnitude of said vibrations. On their radios reporting to the bridge.

We have sailed the Fantasy often, and have spent a significant amount of time in the aft of the vessel during all times of day, in all sea states.

Has the Fantasy had even a "light" drydock?
I've seen divers in some ports inspecting something. They mostly submerged to the aft, so ....

I feel this "nick" occurred 10/27/12 during Hurricane Sandy.
Did anyone feel these significant aft vibrations prior to 11/1/12? Not that I read, nor that I recall.
It's possibly props or shafts got warped while being slapped into and out of the sea repeatedly, during the force 12 encountered 10/27/12. Seas 10m constant to random 18m rogue sets 25 minutes apart for four hours.
That sea state could affect the shafts and props. It sure did affect the interior of the vessel.

Of course I support the Captain's decision to slap the props away during the event, as if he had a choice, as my family and I were aboard. So slap away to save us please. lol.

Of course that is just my opinion.

Our last two cruises: Magic on Deck 2 Forward (April 2015) and Dream on Deck 7 Aft (February 2016).

On Dream Deck 7 Aft, we felt the vibrations when docking. On Magic Deck 2 Forward, we did not feel vibration (just regular cruise ship motion) .

Thank you for your post. It looks like I don't have much to worry about on the Deck 2 Forward staterooms in terms of vibrations.

That vibration has been there since her Maiden. I noticed a very slight tremble in our water glasses during dinner. Didn't feel it, just happened to notice the water vibrating in my glass. I just chalked it up to the Gulf Stream and the way the ship was riding the waves and currents. Nothing that I would write home about, but someone else on the maiden with us said they felt it in their cabin during the trip. It appears to be possibly getting worse, but it can be attributed to many different things. She potentially could have hit something on her river transit, or coming or going from NY during her Christening, could even be sailors superstition when Mariah Carey tried to get her husband to Christen the ship in her place.
The divers in the water could be 1 of 2 things. They could be doing un planned inspections, or they could be doing her regularly scheduled inspections. With the change in SOLAS requirements, ships can go 5 years between drydocks if they have an in water inspection in place of her 2-3 year drydock. (Assuming the ship is less then 15 years old and has not hit anything substantial. Fantasy has not been in DD yet. Next year I think should be her first.)

Thank you. :)

Could the fantasy's props have hit a sand bar when docking at their private island during weather and that caused them to be damaged?
I've seen divers on other ships as well, but was told depending on the ports sometimes old discarded fishing nets get caught up in the props or thrusters and the divers go down to cut them out.

18 meter/60 foot rogue waves!
That must have completely flooded deck 4 and the atrium! I'm glad the interior wasn't too badly damaged that it affected the next sailing!

Hey there C6PT7,

Any number of things could have caused a nick/dent or a blade out of line/balance and as Truck 1 pointed out, it very well could have been there at the start and grew in intensity as time when on. Something as simple as a length of mooring line tangled up around the blades to touching the coral on the opposite bank of the skip at CC, could have caused it as well.

A severe storm where the vessel is pitching out of the water, can cause the props to over speed and then slow down fast as thy renter the water, all great stress on the machinery. The stern of the Fantasy class ride high and the rudders and props are not really very deep under water.

Yes divers often go down to clear away line and fish nets. Leaving them hanging on the props will make hings considerably worse in time.

We were in 7506 (deck 7 forward) on the Dream and could hear the vibrations early morning when docking. It wasn't enough to wake my husband and kids, but I noticed it. It was nice on our CC days (we had a double dip) because it was my reminder to get up early and watch the ship pull in. I wouldn't say it was a disturbance at all though, I'm a light sleeper and I noticed it but was able to go back to sleep on the days I didn't want to get up yet.

We sailed on the Fantasy in December 2014 -- aft verandah. We never felt any vibrations. Either that or it wasn't enough to stand out. Worse vibrations we have ever felt -- through the whole ship 24/7 -- was HAL Eurodam. You could feel the vibrations going up through your legs at certain points -- especially in the restaurants! It's been well documents on Cruise Critic. We've never experienced that type of vibration on any Disney ship. I sailed forward only once on the Wonder -- Deck 6 -- and would never do it again only because the movement of the ship in forward made me seasick. I don't think a lot of people have that problem though.

Yes, that is the location we're usually in. I didn't mind it either, I just noticed it. So, I was wondering if the vibrations were the same on Deck 2 Forward or more intense. If it's the same, then I'm okay with it.
