Noise from deck nine at night?

I'm in cabin 8040 on the Magic and was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with the noise from above. I have noticed that we are right below the dance floor and was wondering if we can hear it in the middle of the night.

We were in cabins 8054 - 8060 and most of us weren't bothered by noise, though the really light sleepers who liked to sleep late in the mornings said they were disturbed by chairs being moved around on deck 9. I personally only noticed sounds from above when the verandah door was open, and never heard anything at night!

It's a great location, just one deck down from all the "action"--enjoy your cruise!

I think that by the time most people are heading off to sleep the upper decks are pretty much deserted, unless of course there is a deck party going on that night.

I have never been on a 7 day cruise but on 3 & 4 day cruises most of the nightly entertainment is inside on deck 3. Most nights when I went on the upper decks for a stroll at night there was hardly a person to be found up there.

JDS,

Did you find 8060 to be a good location? We've got 8062 for next Halloween.

Thanks!

We were in cabin 8550 and not once did I hear a noise. I'm also a very light sleeper, so if there were noises, I'd be the one to hear them. Have fun!! Wish I was going back!!

We were in 8518 underneath the adult pool. We really enjoyed being on that deck. The only noise we heard was an occassional deck chair being moved, but never at night. I liked this deck because you only have cabins on one side, less congestion. It was also very convenient for the drink station, and snacks.

Hi, Jamashp--

We LOVED the location, and especially enjoyed being between the aft staircase---just one short flight up to Topsiders, the drinks station, the pools, and all the other Deck 9 activities---and the mid-ship elevators/staircases. Have a great cruise!

which is 5 doors down on the opposite side of the ship that you are on. I noticed that someone else said they stayed in this room and didnt hear anything but for us it was anything but quiet. When we left one night out of port (cant remember if it was Freeport or Nassau) they did a deck party. Our kids were somewhat small then (had a 3 year old as the youngest) and by the time the deck party got into full swing they were bombed. We took them down to the room and the noise from the deck party was easily heard in our cabin. The kids after a little prodding that it was ok if they went to sleep and the noise would end soon they zonked but hubby and I sat on the verandah listening to the screaming and it didnt get much better in the cabin. We finally had to turn our sound machine on full blast in order to not hear it all. Also we noticed we could hear running above our heads at all times during the day and evening and could also hear people as well as CM's sliding chairs around. For the amount of money we paid for a cabin we felt a little disappointed because our vacation wasnt what we thought it would be when we paid that much money to get a room on the 8th deck. For May when we go in 2004 we opted to go lower and with 2 connecting cabins so that we didnt have the noise above our heads. Maybe we just had a noisy sailing. Hubby and I are light sleepers until we get zonk and then nothing usually wakes us up but it did on that trip. I thought with the suites being where they were that this would be the ideal deck to be on but for our family at least it was not. We have stayed in suites and top floor cabins on other lines and havent been bothered nearly as bad as we were on this sailing. In fact on Carnival the suites were the quietest rooms we have ever slept in away from home and I would have to say that after Norwegian's top deck noise Disney is the next noisiest (at least from our opinion).

Just thought I would add that maybe it will be ok for you and maybe it will be noisy like it was for us just go in being prepared that it could be noisy! I had asked around on this board and another one and everyone told me it was very quiet. Apparently our definitions of quiet were different.

We were in 8048 on the Wonder and did hear noise. The night of the deck party, it was very loud until that finally ended around midnight. We did hear chairs and tables being moved, and carts being rolled around, early in the morning (4:30 - 5:00am), every day. Occasionally heard running and other noises during the day.

Our next trip is booked in one of the cabins directly under the hair salon, so (hopefully) that should be quieter. We will not stay anywhere near the middle of the ship on deck 8 again.
