Noise cancelling headphones

As I mentioned in an earlier thread,we are going to WDW in 12 days (but who's counting)It will be me,myDH,9yr.DD,4 DS.It is our mental health ..get away from reality trip.My DS was recently (December 2008) diagnosed with HF autism/Asperger's.The last trip in September 2008 we had a lot of trouble with the firework's ,we couldn't run away from them fast enough.This was actually before DS started showing any hypersensitivity to noises.Well now we are very volume obsessed and I am really worried.So ,I have done some research and see a lot of people suggesting Noise Canceling headphones.I have found a few ,but they all seem either $$$$$ or too huge for a child.I would like to spend under $50...does anyone have any advice???Help

Have you looked in your local hunting and fishing section? There you would find shooters headsets. I used them for my nieces who didn't like loud noises either. It didn't cancel out all the noise, but enough that they could enjoy the show. They are fairly inexpensive.

I have a pare of peltor kid noise cancelling head phones for DD. I would be more than happy to send them to you but they are bright pink and I don't know if he would go for that. (although it didn't stop DS at the airshow ) DD would never put them on and I am trying to clean out the house.

I forgot to mention that DD who also is sound sensitive so we have always watched the MK fireworks from the ticket and transportation, over by the ferry.

If you google it, many will come up. Some especially for children or are adjustable to fit a child. One pair is in your price range. The problem I had when I was searching for them is that noise cancelling headphones generally are ones for a CD player. I only wanted headphones to cancel noise for dd.

So I found that. These headphones have no cords, are adjustable to fit adult or child's head, and are lightweight. What I didn't realize is that they do not cancel out noise as well as I thought. I thought it would silence loud noises like fireworks. I don't know? I was a little disappointed in these. My dd could very well not use them and it would be the same? Cost I believe $35. These are going to probably stay on top of the dryer where they have been for ages. These are not breakable though--as they have come apart and easily fit back together again!

Anyway my suggestion is to get the higher priced ones that go with a CD player. The ones I have are wonderful. Sounds are so muted as not to bother my daughter. I put on music for her that she enjoys and she doesn't jump out of her skin over sounds any more at fireworks, etc. I told myself since these headphones cost so much, that they would last longer than the cheap ones anyway. Cost about $150. These are the ones going with us on our trip. I have been loading Disney songs for dd for a week! I don't know about them being breakable as I don't let dd wear them unless under supervision since it has a cord to it.

Also before you spend the money, if your child does not like wearing hats, he may not want to wear them. No way my dd would wear earplugs!

Thank you to everyone for all the helpful info.Just wanted to let you know I found the Peltor Noise cancelling headphones on a few websites.Amazon had the best deal $14 and I know amazon is realiable.There were a couple to choose from,colors..sizes.So,hopefully they will arrive before our trip.

These are exactly the same ones (via the same website!) we purchased for our DS9 who is on the spectrum. We have two pair - one is kept at at school and one at home. (Both come on our WDW trips, just in case one gets lost...)

They are great and he uses them during loud WDW shows/parades/movies/rides, but he can still hear us talking to him.

Isn't the DIS great? So many people helping others...
