I have a almost 5 yr old autistic son non verbal who is going to be flying with us to Disney, I am HORRIBLY nervous and needed to know ifthere are headphones that can connect to a laptop or music device out there?

My daughter has a pair. They are Sony's noise cancelling ones. We got them at Wal-Mart in the electronics section. They work great.

I use these when I fly: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Ac...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1271356412&sr=8-1 They don't have them on Amazon right now, but I think I paid $80. They have a regular headphone jack so they work with whatever.

My DH, who has AS, has a bigger pair that also can be unplugged and used just for noise canceling without being plugged into anything, but I thought that those might be too big and bulky for a little kid. The ones I have are very lightweight and the battery pack clips onto your belt.

But you realize that "noise canceling" only quiets certain noises, mostly low-pitched ones like airplaine engines, right? It doesn't block out all outside sound.

I have Sennheiser noise cancelers and they work well but they were $100.00. I purchased them off of Amazon.

Recently I purchased a pair of in the ear headphones from Skull Candy for $20.00. I consider them almost as good. The best part is you can change the gels to fit the ear (they come in the package) more securely and that helps with the noise too. You can also get them from target.com.

My daughter has some sensory issues. She has trouble with the crowds, but is fine in her stroller (almost 6 years old) and the fireworks or loud noises are terrifying to her. What type of headphones should I look for if the noise cancelling don't seal out loud bangs? I was just searching on Amazon but thought I should look for advice here first. She loves her music and uses her MP3 player on a regular basis so I would love to plug that in to whatever will keep the bangs of fireworks out. Thanks for the help.:flower3:

My wife & I own two pair of Bose noise cancelling headphones between us, bought mostly to cut out the noise on the 8 hour flight from London to Orlando. They are fitted with miniature JAP plugs which fit just about any muisic device - ie ipods, sony walkmen, cassette players modern aircraft music/movie sound outlets, laptops etc. The leads on our Bose can be detached from the headphones if you are not listening to music, so that the leads do not get tangled up in anything. The miniature JAP plug is just about universal today and most headphone plug into amost any device. The Bose are supplied with adaptors to fit the larger JAP plugs found on hi-fi amps and adaptors to fit older style aircraft sound outlets.

My DH is an engineer. When he goes out to military bases to test equipment they need to be able to communicate and they are connected to computers all the time. All of the use Bose noise canceling headphones. They have to be good in order to block out the noise from military jets. The ones that they use are not cheap. I believe they are between $80 and $100. But the work and are worth the investment if you are going to run into this kind of problem again.

My son wears hearing protectors. (looks like over the head earphones that you would wear in noisy environments or while shooting) Disney is really loud and we never go to the parks without them. (get the ones made to be worn all day and since they do not touch the ears, they can be passibly comfortable) We carry them about 1/2 the time and he grabs them and puts them on when he wants to. (parades, rides or just when he needs to tune out for a bit)

We just use a cheap pair of earbud headphones (the in-ear type) for when he wants to listen to his electronics and then if it is a loud environment - he puts the hearing protectors on over it.

It works out pretty well and should be under $40 total for both the hearing protectors and ear buds....

I have the Bose pair for myself. The pair that ran about $300 I think? They are SO AWESOME on a plane. DH bought them for me as a gift. You don't have to turn the sound up at all with plane noise which I love. It's a bit much $-wise for a child but if you can, they are GREAT! I currently can't get my DS2 with ASD to put, wear or even had a stroller canopy over his head so I can't use the phones, but I'd sure like to be able to. I think it would be major if we could get him to tolerate it. Therapists are trying with us. So far, no go.

Good luck!
