No, there were no lines for taxis. They were lined up for a mile hoping someone would hire them. There was no problem getting a texi for hire on the last TA. There were people however who only hired a taxi to a specific location. They had a hard time finding a taxi to get back down. Basically all the ones at the top were hired for the day. We took some other DISers back down the "rock" with us.

One thing I have to say was the shopping in Gibraltar was terrible. The prices were outragous!!! I would not even bother to be dropped off back in the town again. It was not worth it.

Now I'm rethinking my decision to do the dining plan for the pre-day. Could save a small bundle by stepping down to the quickservice and eating at Pepper Market + no tips there. Hmmmmmm

I don't know...you might need to fill up at WDW since getting enough food the following 2 weeks might be a challenge. :lmao:

GIBRALTAR - Karen and I plan on using a taxi to the Apes and then coming back down. If anyone wants to do this limited ride, you're welcome to join us.

Well, I've managed to narrow my excursion choices down a bit. Haven't figured out Madeira yet - too many interesting choices.

Barcelona - Barcelona and Freizenet Cellars
Gibraltar - hiring a taxi/van with some of you
Cadiz - Taste of Cadiz & Jerez

Madeira - probably one of the following:
Madeira Caves and North Coast
Madeira Culture and History
Unforgettable West Madeira

Once I actually book on Jan. 10th, I'll post or pm the info for the website.

Hope I get the ones I want. Guess I better have a second choice lined up just in case. :confused3

Kristi

HappyGoofy, do you want to be the contact person for those wanting to hire a taxi/van for the Rock? Particularly for those of us with mobility problems?

By the way, my issue is that I can't walk fast, too far and have limited endurance depending on what I'm doing.

Kristi

Are you only wanting to see the apes or the rest of the Rock as well?

Kristi

I think we are skipping the siege tunnels and St Michael's. I can't remember what else there is up there. We talked yesterday (Karen came home from Space Camp) and decided it was Apes & Bowling for Gibraltar. We'll have extra time, but there was no enthusiasm for the tunnels.

Lynne

The tunnels were really cool. Amazing with how they were created and what they were used for!!! I would skip the caves before the tunnels. Both were neat but the tunnels were really cool.

--I must say, some of us fellow DISsers consider ourselves to be on a higher intelligence plateau, as compared to our Barbary soul-mates. Accordingly, please refer to as as TOURISTS, instead of just plain "apes!"

--When you first mentioned bowling in Gibraltar, I thought you were kidding. What am I missing? Is this actually rolling a round heavy ball on an indoor wooden plank lane, trying to knock down 10 pins at a time, in each of 10 frames (as in AMC Brunswick)?

Am I on the right page regarding the Rock? It sounds like, once you are on the rock, you have the ability to ad an excursion (whether is be the Apes, or St. Michaels Cave, etc), merely by paying an separate entrance fee?
:confused3

BTW - I recently spec'd out a custom FE, and authorized it's construction. I also recently purchased a Xyron 900 (online, saving nearly 50%, including taxes/shipping). Having already churned out a dozen or so graphics on my color lazer, I am waiting to convert them into magnets of some sort or another ... providing I can figure out how to use the Xyron.

I think I only posted this on the Med thread but sorry if I already posted this here. When using the xyron machine (for magents mostly) roll out a little bit first before placing the actual page in the machine. Sometimes the top laminate and magnet do not line up correctly at the very beginning. By rolling out a little bit before hand you can avoid having to re-print another design. you only need to do this for new cartirdges.

Yes, real bowling. Karen and I are on vacation during this cruise (like our life isn't really just one big vacation? :rolleyes1

There's a 14- lane "King's Bowl" right next door to the ice skating rink.

Per game is about $3.82 & includes shoes. Very modern looking facility.

But my 8-lb ball will take up too much of luggage wt allowance. I'm no pro-bowler, do better on the Wii (top score there, 289, real life 176 or so)

Okay, so ice skating is NOT FOR YOU - right? Hey, why not have the proprietor of the bowling alley take your pic ... frame it ... and post it on their wall with a sub-title for furthest distance traveled. What is it, like 6,000+ miles? OMG!

I have yet to fully know if you still have to pay the 10% tipping or not at Pepper Market on the plan - have read both yes and no - so I will plan some for the tips just in case or get things to go and eat outside by the water if the weather is nice :)

yeh it is a real pain to find good food on the cruise - and even more so to find servers who learn your favorite drinks and your name after 1 meal!:rotfl::rotfl:

That actually sounds like fun to go bowling! We like to bowl (more on the Wii but also in regular too. hmmmm.....might have to talk to family about that if you don't mind competition for that furthest traveled to bowl award!
