No walking track on Disney Wish?

Flat surface walk is good for bad knees. Stairs are bad for bad knees. The ramps would work but if Wish is expecting me to do stairs then maybe I'll just walk back and forth. The last cruise we were on every time I used level 4 the crew was using a hose = trip hazard. Accessing the treadmill area is just so intimidating for this old chubby lady. Do you just walk into the gym and grab one or is there a sign up?
FItness center for machines are first-come, first-serve. Don't be intimidated by using the machines: nobody cares about your use of the machine other than folks who might be waiting for them, and they got there after you, so screw 'em. You're exercising, they can go walk the Stairs of Death and spray some sweat on folks getting a spa treatment.

Surely you go up the stairs to the right near the start of the video and not through the spa?

I had been thinking you'd go up those stairs as well... there's an area that goes around the front of the ship. You can see people up there along that path in some of the "artist's renderings." It stuck out to me because it looked to me like those people could look right down into the Rainforest area, which I thought was kind of weird... like an old school zoo exhibit. I had been kind of hoping that, although people could go up there, it might be restricted and reserved for things like a viewing area for interesting itineraries (Panama Canal transit/Glacier Viewing/going under famous bridges). There are so many ways that Rainforest area seems like a 'people aquarium.'

Maybe the Rainforest area has doors that are closed during regular spa hours, but open for early morning runs. Otherwise, they're going to need to police that area to ensure people don't try to sneak in... wristbands maybe?

I've been a runner since I was 15 and I've run several marathons. Running up and down hills and stairs is hard on not only your knees, but it gives you shin splints. Up is not so bad it's the down that takes a toll.

I've never seen the gym that crowded, but it might be now. Most ships have a running track on the top deck which doesn't interfere with anything else. I wonder why they didn't do something like that. On Carnival's new ships it takes about 7 circles to do a mile, but at least the track is just for runners and walkers. The new Royal ships have awesome running tracks.

Well, I know there was certainly never random spots of standing water when I went running on Deck 4 on the Fantasy 2 weeks ago, so yeah I'm completely willing to just go running down some stairs. Who needs their tibia and fibula to be unbroken, anyway. Overrated bones IMO.

Every time I went running, it was in the 7am hour so Senses wouldn't be open, but that "path" for running is worthless. I'm sure Disney's engineeers did the math and figured out that there aren't enough runners to merit an uninterrupted loop versus whatever advantages this new setup entails, but it pretty clearly eliminates the Wish from consideration for me (and the new ships if/when they have this same configuration). I don't do treadmill running, thanks, and certainly not on "vacation," and running is extremely important to me. I don't blame Disney for the cost/benefit analysis, but that's the "cost" in that scenario. YMMV.

Senses has always been open by 7, usually it opens at 6 when we cruise?

I love the running tracks on the original 4 ships but completely understand that they made adjustments. Whenever I would run, I would feel like there was plenty of people walking outside and always people on the promenade but it was really a waste of space when cruise ships are so limited in space already. Someone who doesn't run made the decision to add stairs in there, mark my words.

Having treadmills in the gym is nice but it just doesn't beat running on Deck 4 and smelling the ocean air.

I wont think of this new one as a "running track" and maybe I'll dislike it less?

We've been looking at cruises and while I'm not a jogger a walk to stretch the legs on a more routine way would be nice to do every now and then.

I think Virgin Voyages has a great solution to allowing a jogging and walking path without getting in the way. They have a suspended track with two lanes where 6 laps equals a mile. It's out of the way for people milling about but still gives people a high up view.

I do think it's odd that on a brand new ship Disney would opt to include stairs like this that seems like a step backwards in the evolution of walking/jogging paths on cruise ships, at least it does to me.

That would be my mistake on the Senses opening time, I didn't pay that much attention but had 8 in my head for some reason. If the outdoor part is going to be open at 7am and they're contemplating people coming through it, I mean, that's a horror show, I don't care if those people are running or walking, or what. You have people coming into an area that others have paid to access, having conversations, maybe running, just otherwise not doing "spa stuff."

I am a classic ship fan to begin with and one of my things I love to do is walking on deck 4. I also love sitting on the Adirondack chairs and watch the seas go by….its very disappointing about the stairs…

I’m on the Maiden for the Wish…it might be a one and done…we are empty nesters but have a new grandson which might pull us to the ships with more bells and whistles

It's a choice; we plan to wear masks indoors (though of course we'll have to risk it while we actively eat). We have another 5 days in WDW after the cruise before heading home - we're hoping we stay healthy long enough to make good on those ADRs and get on the rides that didn't exist on our last trip in Oct 2019. If we have to quarantine so be it, but we'd feel better knowing we did what we could to mitigate the risk rather than wonder "what if".
We will do the same on our 11 night coming up. We don’t wanna have symptoms while In board and that’s a long enough cruise to catch and still be onboard while sick. Even a “cold” right now is too stressful

I agree with previous posters who comments that this ship is clearly geared for families with younger children. That combined with the shorter sailings, I guess having a running/walking/strolling track was not important. I'm not a "runner", but one of my favorite activities is getting up early and jogging/walking around the track on the Fantasy. So far I have not seem much that attracts me to the Wish. I imagine we will try it one day to see it in person, but the Dream class ships and longer itineraries
are what we enjoy.

The track design decision is just odd. Maybe it matches the current thinking for the Disney Wish to sail short voyages with small children, but that can always change. It could always sail longer trips in 10+ years just like the Dream. But, what's most puzzling is how this flies in the face of those with disabilities. So weird.

I just re-watched the video and the one thing that popped up is that they really have a lack of loungers. I hope it’s not the case abs the video doesn’t Show the complete picture.

Me personally I love how on the classic ships you walk in the anchor room. Sometimes you see workers painting chairs. Makes you feel like you are in a boat.

And also just an assumption, I know will get clarification soon from people who are on the boat but I don’t think the track goes through senses. A PPs noted there are stairs to the right and those will most likely guide people on the track to go to the next level. I also noticed in the video someone opens the door to cut through senses and I can assume this door gives some type of restrictive access either for people who pay or for those 18 and over. I just can’t see Disney allowing kids running through adult section.

This kind of thing annoys the heck out of me because I like to sail 3 night cruises in winter, but from now on they won't be available on my favorite ship, the Dream. I don't want to be stuck with the Wish.

Would it be possible to sail from Miami on her instead..?

Same. Walking on deck 4 is my favorite activity. I sometimes wake up real early and walking there while the sun is rising is incredible. The ocean breeze, the sight of the majestic waves, even the occasional spray of salty water is so special. Then if its really hot midday and the pool decks are too full, I'll head over deck 4 again, grab a lounge chair and immerse myself in a good book. I hate to think all these things will be curtailed on the Wish.

I'll be on the MV as well - will go to deck 4 right after lunch at the buffet.
I think it'll be one and done for me as well, at least for the foreseeable future.
