No Vacancy at VGC, staying at DLH with points

So...decided to use our banked points to do something different at the last minute. We have never been to DL before. Any advice will be appreciated. My main question is this: we used our points for deluxe/premium(can't remember the actual name but not standard) category. Has anyone ever done this? What kind of room and tower did you get? I have been reading that the Dream? tower is the upgraded one, should I request that one or is there a better request? Anyone try to upgrade to concierge once you arrived? I am a little nervous about the hotel and realize I sound a little snobbish. We are spoiled by the one and two bedrooms of DVC, what can I say. I am excited by a new experience regardless and know we will have fun in our sweet little room without the kitchen and laundry and whirlpool tub...:)

You can't use points to book Concierge anymore, and I'm not sure that you could ever combine points and cash to book it. I thikn you just book normal rooms, no suites, with points.

Once you book it, your points are converted to reservation points, only to be used at places outside the normal DVC resorts, so you do NOT want to book it if you are waitlisting the villas, because the points for the DLH won't revert back to vacation points.

That said, points were how we experienced DLH, and it was nice.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Be sure to pick up a portable perks booklet. Last time I was there (staying at GCH on points just before VGC opened) there was a DVC discount at nearly every restaurant, both TS and CS, at both parks, all 3 hotels, and DtD.

We used DVC points to stay at the DLH hotel two years ago in August. We had a premium room that was on a high floor in the Dreams Tower facing the pool. It was a regular hotel room but it was fine for us for a stay on developers points for a one shot deal. I would ask for a fireworks view. I much prefer Grand Californian and being in a DVC suite but it was perfectly fine.

Heck, a trip in a regular hotel room beats not being at Disney at all in my book! :rotfl:

Have a great time and enjoy!
