No upgrades since online check in coincidence?

Ever since the magic band and online check in I haven't been upgraded, since the band gives me the opportunity to bypass the front desk I haven't been upgraded, before this I was upgraded several times

Well, with online check-in, you're selecting your preferences and such for your room. They're trying to fill those requests. So if they can fill them for you, what's the point of an upgrade? You got what you wanted.

Also, Disney is not having problems filling rooms anymore. So if there's less rooms to fill, there's probably not as many "upgrades" available (that's just a guess though).

Personally, I think the ability to bypass the front desk is an actual upgrade to anyone who gets this opportunity.
I'm hoping one day, I will get that text or email.

I would just consider yourself lucky to have gotten several upgrades in the past. Many/most? people have never been upgraded.

You can go back in and edit your post... Down at the bottom of your post there's a little "Edit" button next to where it says report, click it and you can edit your post... Just in case you didn't know.

Totaly coincidence. They don't look at how you checked in for if you get the upgrade or not. Upgrades are rare and usually are due to over booking a room category or rooms coming out of service and no longer being available.

I know a couple who checked in yesterday, they did online check in and were upgraded

This past August I was upgraded and I always do online check in. Had a standard room at the YC booked and was upgraded to the Regatta Club Level with a water view room!!! Absolutely magical!!! I'm sure it's just random of whom they give the upgrades to but I was traveling solo and there was an older couple checking in at the same time and me and we both got upgraded to the Regatta Club.

We are DVC, did online checking and was upgraded in Dec. First time ever for us. No reason given. We went from a studio to a one bedroom.

I've been 9 times and never been upgraded so I'd say it's a complete coincidence. Never done on-line check in.

For me, I do not consider going directly to the room as an upgrade.
I can say that we have been upgraded a few times "because" of our interaction with the CM at the desk. So, it is not just a coincidence, but I totally believe luck plays a big factor in it.

I have been upgraded when I did online check in, so it's probably just a coincidence. On an anniversary trip, we received the text that our room was ready while we were on DME. After looking up our room number, I realized we were upgraded from a King room to a junior king suite at CSR. We went to the front desk anyway to ask for anniversary buttons and were given a voucher for two free glasses of champagne as well. So going to the front desk could possibly be more beneficial.

Our room view was upgraded the past 2 trips and we used online check-in both times. Upgraded from garden to pool view at POR, in the Royal Rooms and standard to garden view at BC. We were pleasantl surprised.

100% coincidence. As some others have said, there is NEVER a guarantee of an upgrade, and contrary to what it seems like on here, upgrades are rare.

I've been quite a few times (5 in the past 8 years alone) and have never been offered an upgraded. I will say though I was always randomly getting handed anytime FPs back when they were paper and after paper went away never got any again. Coincidence?

I have been upgraded to a 1 bedroom from a studio at The Beach Club villa, to club level at the Yacht Club and to club level at The Polynesian and more I think but none since the magic bands became available so it's been years and I go several times a year

With CM interaction ...standard to a Royal at POR, standard to Savannah at AKL, standard to water at POFQ, standard to Preferred at POR and standard to Business at CSR.. where they also gave us the Coupon for Free Drinks ( Anniversary)! ( oops... one more.. standard to water at Poly)
(It seems like Many UPgrades but this is over many many visits and many years.. so it's less than 10% Of the time).
