No upgrades since online check in coincidence?

Pretty much all the Mod resorts operate the same. There are various "view" categories, and a Preferred area. But within Preferred, there are no additional categories. Like Pool, Water, Garden, King, etc. So if you book a specific view (or bed) you may get a room in the Preferred building, and you may not. And conversely, you may book Preferred and get a Pool, Garden or even King room in the Preferred area.

Yup, just gotta book whats most important to you.

I actually got my first upgrade a few weeks ago and I've been doing online check in ever since it started. My upgrade was some huge pixie dust. We got an upgrade from All Star Movies to AKL! We were only booked for two nights at ASM, and I guess they were looking for people who would be easy to move since the CM said the All Stars were overbooked for those days. We were thrilled.

Something worth noting, most significant upgrades are for shorter duration trips. Naturally, there are always exceptions but one common thing you'll find when reading about them is they have been for shorter trip

Now THAT's an upgrade!

Really?! I had no idea I retract what I said above then! Yes we did still receive water view. I assumed Preferred was only given in those rooms if you booked that specifically. I'm really quite surprised they do it that way since it would seem they are missing an opportunity to charge more for preferred water view (since this is Disney we're talking about after all)!

Shhhhhhh.....

Ok, what about this wrinkle...

Has anybody been upgraded after using Touringplan's fax service? Those requests seem fairly specific so I wonder if that precludes you from being treated like you're flexible?

I do not believe they view folks who fax requests as folks are are not flexible but if you fax the request of a room(s) you'd like they are going to try and fill it. It isn't going to preclude you from getting an upgrade but first and foremost they are going to work to fill your request. If you hope for an upgrade (which is very foolish in my opinion but clearly some do worry about this to the point they post about it here and elsewhere) then the best plan of action you have is to not make any requests. Look at it from the view point of those doing the room assigning. Professional Tetris players. They have X rooms open. They have Y guests coming in. First they try to match guests with rooms they ask for. Then they fill rooms by booking category. Those left over are filled in to rooms left over. Don't want to be matched to a requested room first, don't request a room

Makes sense. Personally, I'm too picky (fussy, nerdy?) to leave my room selection to random chance. Especially since the fax service gives you a chance at the "best-of" any particular category. I'm curious if anybody has any particular experiences to share.

Well, if you think it matters do an experiment. Stop doing online check in and see if your upgrade luck returns
l did online check in once again and I got an upgrade to Boardwalk view, first upgrade in years!
