OK, I know I'm whining but I don't think I can survive without television. Our satellite went out Saturday because of a snow slide off the roof. The DVR has some saved shows we can watch but I want real time! Our scheduled repair was cancelled "due to weather" and rescheduled for Thursday, which I tried to point out was likely to be cancelled again because of snow.

I love my DVR and skipping commercials but I am missing them now. I can't find a live stream news program. HELP!

I had no TV for 2 days last week when my DVR's hard drive died, so I feel your pain. What I ended up doing (after I got done whining to anybody who would listen!) was watching a bunch of movies on DVD that I have but haven't seen in a while. For those I have seen recently, I watched all of the extra features and/or watched the movies with directors' commentary on. The days passed a lot faster than I ever thought they would!

You can see a lot of the shows online, the day after they've airred. That might help a little bit.

We recently got rid of our cable, and I too am a TV junkie. We have been watching our favorite shows on Hulu and any network they air on. The commercials are only about 30 seconds each, about the time we would spend fast forwarding on our old DVR.

I know NBC airs full episodes of some of their shows online, for what it's worth. Second the recommendation on Hulu for a lot of others you may be missing. Some shows might have restrictions on how many episodes may be on Hulu at any one time (I know It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia does, or did at one time anyway), but you can at least see a few of them.

You can watch most of them commercial free within minutes of airing if you know the places to go...pirate:

Just sayin'

I went a whole summer without TV once. It wasn't really all that bad. Even though the TV is on at our house almost all the time, I think I could do it again (it's just the rest of the family who thinks they couldn't). It frees up your time to do all sorts of other things. Do some baking, organize your photo albums, read a book, mend some clothing....

Good luck!!
