No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try. - ToT 10 Miler & F&W - Updated 12/21

Catching up! Great job with all your training runs!

I will have to try the stinger waffles. I, like Ebc, hate the gels, but force them down on long runs. If there's something better- I'm all for it!

That is, of course, if I can ever get myself back into the running game. A long 2.5 running break- I NEED to start up again. No more excuses!

You are doing fantastic thought! Woo! Way to go!!

I used to drink almost a two liter a day of soda and then too it off with caffeinated tea. I stopped cold turkey, and it was hard, but it's amazing the small changes that have happened since then. I do still, occasionally, have a glass if iced tea while out at a restaurant, but I definitely feel the effects and if i have more than one glass I won't sleep that night.

The good thing too is pre race caffeine REALLY works well now. A few caffeinated sports beans and I am ready to go!

I think I was about that bad too. I slowly weaned myself off as cold turkey would have not gone well for me. I tend to do this - I get completely off of it for months and then go back to it and cycle through that again.

Thats awesome that just a couple beans works for you! My pre-workout pills work well for me but I switch the brands on those every two months or so.

The waffles are good for breakfast these past two mornings. (I am super lazy when it comes to eating in the morning) I'm out of the two I bought now though, so I guess I'm back to protein bars until I go shopping again.

You do need to get back in the running game, especially as your vacation is now over!

Is it possible to do long runs witha banana and some chocolate covered raisins and water and a bit of salt, honey and lemon in it? I've been too scared to try anything but water after my last (horrible) experience with gels and gatoraid.

I would worry the banana would swish, and the chocolate would melt in pockets and all. I like the beans because you can eat as many as you want. You can have a couple or the whole package. They taste like regular jelly beans because there made by Jelly Belly

I would end up destroying the banana if I had to hold it.

I played with the Clif Shot Chews this week & while the flavor was a bad choice (Chocolate Cherry), it kept me energized. I did the Strawberry Banana Gu Gel for today's run & it wasn't that bad. I think it was because it was sweeter rather than nasty chia seed filled grossness. Have you tried any chews or just tried gatorade & gels?

I personally hate raisins. Funny as I love wine but raisins and me just aren't friends.

They do taste like regular jelly beans! They also rock b/c you can re-close the bag without an issue.

I'll give the beans a try. It's not that I don't like gels, it's that they don't like me.

June Week 3 Run Update

Monday, June 16th
W2D7 - Rest Day

Tuesday, June 17th
W3D1 - Should have been a 50 minute run. I wasn’t feeling good. There was no energy in my body despite having had my pre-workout I was going slow. I gave up after 34 minutes. 2.3 miles so a 14:46 pace.

Wednesday, June 18th
W3D2 - 40 Minutes on the Bike + Arm Work

Thursday, June 19th
W3D3 - 50 minute run. I actually finished the full thing! 3.64 miles so 13:44 pace. I also tried out the strawberry banana Gu Gel today about 15 minutes into the run to get me through (I didn’t do anything pre-workout) and it seemed to work to get me through & didn’t make me gag!

Friday, June 20th
W3D4 - 52 minute run. I ended up doing 3.93 miles @ 13:13 pace. I tried the salted caramel Gu Gel today. Nope. Did not work for me at all as it was making me gag.

Saturday, June 21st
W3D5 - 40 Minutes Cardio per the app. I had met up with my coworkers at 9AM for our weekly workout but we were back to doing sprints. My poor legs! If we are going to maintain doing sprints, I need to just skip the typical Day 4 runs and make it be the other cardio day of the week.

Sunday, June 22nd
W3D6 - 60 Minute Run. I did 4.54 miles so my pace was 13:12. My legs were not happy with me. Having run now 4 days in a row, I’m super happy that tomorrow is a rest day so maybe they won’t be so sore.

Look at you getting up your miles and getting your pace down! I bet before you know it you will be under 13 min/mile! :thumbsup2

Looks like you had a good week! :goodvibes I'm with Ann, I bet you'll get to sub-13 soon!!!

It's a struggle to find Gu that works. I had to try quite a few flavors before I found what I liked (vanilla and salted caramel - which is definitely not for everyone!). Hopefully the strawberry banana continues to be a winner.

Hopefully the beans like you! They taste like candy.

I'm hoping I get under 13 min/mil before the race! My 'goal' is to maintain 13 min/mil for ToT although I think my husband wants me to try for a 10 min/mil - I'm going to be realistic on what I can do. He does 8 min/miles now on the treadmill - he just never runs on the road.

I really wanted to like the salted caramel. Salted Caramel is one of my favorite flavors for desserts & coffee. I'm glad it worked for you! I'm glad the strawberry banana at least worked for me so I have options on what to use for long races. I'll probably try a few more of the sweeter ones next time I go shopping.

Hi! Just wanted to say thanks for commenting on my PTR. I've been reading your past TRs and now I need to catch up on this PTR! Wow! So many trips planned! I am envious :) Looking forward to reading about your plans. I am not doing so great on ToT training right now. I've forgotten what it's like to work out in the FL heat (I'm not a treadmill runner; I've tried, but I just don't enjoy it), and I'm not coping well! I need to get off my butt and get some miles in!

That is so exciting that you are planning two event meals. I really wish I could plan to do those in October. I guess there is time. I could drop and ADR or two....

Love breakfast at the GF Café!!!

Its been forever since I've had breakfast there so I figured it would be a good fit for that trip since we'll be right next door! My mother likes her breakfast food.

Thanks for joining in! This PTR is long so I know its a lot to keep up on. One of the reasons I keep posting my training progress is to help keep me accountable and to help me track my improvements if I look back.

That Florida heat does suck. I'm on the inland side of Naples so I get the humidity & heat as well. I rather run on the road but with my work schedule, I would be running in the midst of the afternoon thunderstorms. With as much lightning that hits & how strong the storms are, there is no way I'm running in that! I am able to run outside on the weekends at least! I do get that treadmills aren't for everyone but its either treadmill or nothing. Thats like me on the elliptical. I'm so ADD on the elliptical that I end up having to quit after about 5 minutes as I hate it that much.

I do go to WDW a lot for long weekends but when you are only 3 hours away & lack children, it makes travel super easy.

You should drop an ADR or two. I love the special events - its my favorite part of the Food & Wine Festival along they keep getting more popular each year so its harder to get what you want always now.

June Week 4 Run Update

Monday, June 23rd
W3D7 - Rest Day!

Tuesday, June 24th
W4D1 - 3.77 miles @ 13:15 pace

Wednesday, June 25th
W4D2 - 8.23 miles on the bike in 30 minutes.

Thursday, June 26th
W4D3 - 3.1 miles @ 13:13 pace

Friday, June 27th
W4D4 - 3.53 miles @ 14:09 pace

Saturday, June 28th
W4D5 - 11 miles on the bike in 42 minutes. No workout with the coworkers today as a few of them had to get some things done at work that morning. (I got to go in on Sunday instead after my run as the VPN & I were in a fight)

Sunday, June 29th
W4D6 had today as a 70 minute run. It was also my first road running around my house for like 6 weeks. I ended up going somewhat longer as I had to get home since I misjudged when I needed to turn back on the final loop. I did 5.08 miles @ at 14:30 pace. At the end, I didn’t hurt and still had some energy left. I also tried the Honey Stinger Cherry Cola chews and they worked out fine.

EL8WuHO.png

Mile 5 should have been about a minute so faster but some lady stopped me as she was lost down my street as she was looking for a garage sale that was actually the next street over. She didn’t believe me when I said there isn’t a garage sale down this street so it took longer than I would have liked! Seriously lady, I just did a whole loop up this street along with the neighboring streets, I think I know where the garage sale is!

June Health Update
Well, weight wise - I’m up two pounds. While I’ve been great at exercising, I haven’t been the best food wise until this past week. It doesn’t help that when I had to move desks at work a month ago, I’m now in the office area that always has candy or food out. I’m weak when temptation is always out! I restarted using myfitnesspal for calorie counting as I haven’t used it regularly in a while. I’m also cutting out alcohol in general outside of vacations for the time being. I did lose about 2% body fat as well this month. This month I did lose 0.5” inches in my waist, hips & thighs at least. I’m hoping this means I’m in a muscle gaining cycle and the weight should drop soon.

Totals Lost since beginning of 2014:
Waist: 5”
Hips: 4.25”
Thighs: 4.5”
Weight: 15.7 pounds

Woohoo for ADRs! Of the ones you made, I've only been to Citricos - I'd say that's currently my favorite Signature at WDW. :goodvibes Delicious! We've had Yak & Yeti on our list for awhile now and it always seems to get bumped. I'm determined to make that happen next trip!

Really looking forward to hearing about the special Food & Wine dinners you have planned! :)

Looks like a great running and biking week for you! Thumbs down to that lady that stopped you.

We were out walking the dog last week and ran into a lady that was lost on our street...when we gave her directions she had this look on her face that clearly said she didn't believe us. :rolleyes1 Ummm why don't these ladies believe those of us that actually LIVE in these places?! It's especially annoying when that happens in the middle of a run.

I totally can relate to the temptations - we've had a bake sale going on and the goodies are right outside of my cube, so I had like 3 days in a row where I had some pretty decently-sized chocolate chip cookies. Not good! I mean...the cookies were really good, but ya know.

Good call on taking the body fat % and inches measurements. Sometimes that's really helpful when the scale isn't cooperating - you're still obviously doing something right!

I very well might. I hate that the schedule isn't out yet. It makes planning a bit hard. Can't even book until August :confused3 At least DVC get early booking and a discount... I guess that is a little bit of consolation.

Good for you getting out there, I know the summer is getting brutal in a lot of areas. Poo on the crazy garage sale lady though!

Looks like your really doing well losing inches! I dont' measure... I think it would scare me. :scared:

Citricos isn't my favorite of the signatures but its up there! Flying Fish & Yachtsman are my favorite depending on the mood. Artist Point is the worst of them to me. I always want to go and like it but I never do. California Grill, Narcoossees and Jikos are fine we just aren't must dos anymore.

Really looking forward to hearing about the special Food & Wine dinners you have planned! :)

Thanks! I'm hoping they are all as great as the ones last year were!

I haven't a clue! Its a residential area, obviously if I'm running around it, I live here as it isn't special enough for anyone other than those that live around it. Oh well! At least there shouldn't be too many more garage sales going on in the midst of summer as its just too hot for that.

I totally can relate to the temptations - we've had a bake sale going on and the goodies are right outside of my cube, so I had like 3 days in a row where I had some pretty decently-sized chocolate chip cookies. Not good! I mean...the cookies were really good, but ya know.

Oh I would have totally been over those cookies as well! This week, we had donuts as well as our thank you for ending the FY year well. That oreo cream donut was good but I was happy it was a run day to balance it out along with actually bringing a salad from home for lunch.

I'm glad I've been keeping track of that as well. I think this week so far its finally catching up correctly. I've dropped the two pounds but we'll see if it maintains.

I very well might. I hate that the schedule isn't out yet. It makes planning a bit hard. Can't even book until August :confused3 At least DVC get early booking and a discount... I guess that is a little bit of consolation.

At least we only have about 2 more weeks until the schedule should be out as they are having the TiW preview dinner then.

DVC doesn't get a discount on the Signature Events sadly but that said, they are well worth the $155 to $225 I've paid in the past for these special meals.

Oh the first time I measured, I was scared. That number was definitely higher than I wanted it to be. At least I'm below 40 inches now so its less scary.

July Week 1 Run Update

Monday, June 30th
Rest Day!

Tuesday, July 1st
W5D1 - Should have been 50 minute run.
When I got home from work, I was going to head to the gym but Shaun wanted to go out to dinner after the World Cup came as his ankle was bothering him and wanted a brace. So as I only have about an hour before the game should have ended, I went up and down the street. What I should have looked at was the weather. Even though there were no rain storms, we were still in the cloud system for what would become Arthur & that meant some wind and heavy humidity. It was like running into a wet wall. First mile was at like 14 min/mil, then after that, it ended up being around 17:30 min/mils as I started cramping in place I never have hurt before. I called it a day at 2.72 miles ending with an overall pace of 16:33. Horrible!

Wednesday, July 2nd
W5D2 - Cross Training Day - 10.23 miles on the bike in 40 minutes along with some upper body work.

Thursday, July 3rd
W5D3 - A 2nd rest day! I was happy for that as it worked out great with the plans I had.

Friday, July 4th
W5D4 - 55 Minute Run.

We ended up going to the gym early. I ended with a pace of 13:28 min/mil and 4.08 miles completed. Definitely made up for Tuesday’s horrible run! The app has now switched to 4 minute runs/1 minute walks so I’m slowing down for the run portions to try to maintain for the full 4 minutes.

Saturday, July 5th
W5D5 - Cardio X w/ my coworker & his wife.

I also went over to Boca for an outdoor concert with 3 of my coworkers to see Lindsey Stirling. I’ve never heard of her before but my coworker wanted to go. It actually was really cool as she dances while she plays the violin.

Look at that sunset!
GuJBMXV.jpg

Sunday, July 6th
W5D6 - Should have been a 50 minute run. It ended up being a 30 minute run @ 13:20 pace.
