No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try. - ToT 10 Miler & F&W - Updated 12/21

I was shocked at how quickly he agreed! He does read my mind well. It was me you told about not really doing the Star Wars race. Was your husband able to get registered yesterday or do you have to wait with the masses on the 10ths? I understand being on the fence especially with being in WDW the week before. I don't know how those people are doing the Dopey + all 3 Star Wars races as well, given the costs & vacation time but cheers to them.

Flights are going to be a killer from here - about $500 it seems but I'm going to keep looking and probably won't buy until September.

It was an odd thing. He was so excited. Before dinner the night before last he was telling me he needed me to quickly get a room since he was sure everything would fill quickly. After dinner, I had him sit with me to look a the calendar to plan when he would be flying back from FL and then down to CA. Sadly, it was then that he realized that it would be pushing it. He would be shortening one trip (and thus not enjoying himself) to then push and take another short trip (and again not being able to enjoy himself) All this while using up his remaining time off. It was kinda disappointing for me to see him give up what he was looking so forward to. It makes sense. Really it does. I think the fact I had little interest played into it as well since I wasn't even sure I wanted to go down just for the weekend... when I wouldn't be running and we wouldn't likely go into the parks.

All this said though... it was hard to not get caught up in all the excitement. AND since I didn't have to pay for my ds to be registered for the half I may have splurged and bought the sparkle skirt I was wanting to get. :rolleyes1

As for flights... I would just watch. What you are encountering for the east to west coast is what we always encounter from west to east. I wish we could get fares from coast to coast like we can just down to CA. (my return flight in November was just $69) Still, I think I am seeing fares coast to coast being more like $300 RT.

YAY for DH and SW Half! I think you are doing great with your pace...it will come down cause you are working at it. I never thought I would be running a 12 mm pace a year ago but I am seeing lots more 12s now then 14s...seemed to skip over the 13s!

At least he realized he would be pushing it prior to spending the money on sign up. Being an adult & making the right choices sometimes sucks, especially in terms of vacations & money. I'm amazed at the people considering going from WDW to DL for this race (or the crazy few doing WDW/DCL/DL) as that is a lot of travel to cram into 1.5 weeks. It makes me feel overwhelmed & I'm not even the one doing it.

Yay for being the sparkle skirt you wanted! Maybe once I hit my Louboutin weight, I'll buy one of the skirts too as I don't really see me dropping too much more weight after that.

Yeah, I have an alert set up on kayak for the airfare. If I see it get to 300 RT, I'm buying. I"m not planning on buying it until at least August if they don't go down though. I do need to call about a hotel room @ one of the Disney hotels though.

I'm shooting for 13mm for the races. I'm glad I'm finally getting consistently around 14 though without too much pain. 4 more months of training though so I should see some improvements. Hopefully it gets down more but I probably have some more weight to lose before that.

June Week 1 Run Update

Monday, June 2nd
Rest Day. My arms did get a workout from bowling league! The first working Monday of the next 4 months will be bowling league day. A group of 30 of us from work are signed up for the league.

Tuesday, June 3rd
W1D1 of Couch to Half Marathon (C2HM from here on out) - 45 Minutes

D38Mz6m.png

The 45 Minutes included 5 minute warm up, 3 minute run, 2 minute walk (repeat run/walk 6 more times), 5 minute cool down. This is the standard set up for most of the 45 minute runs during the first few weeks in the app it seems from a quick look. I worked on actually running slower so I could maintain a steady run pace for longer rather than switching between a 6.5 mph & 4.5/4.7 mph during run portions like I did in C210K. I also truly walked (3.5 mph) rather than having the treadmill set at a jog pace (4.0 mph) By keeping the treadmill slower, I was able to maintain the speed for longer (5.2 mph)

Wednesday, June 4th
W1D2 - Cross Training Day

Mbe7du6.png

40 Minutes on the Bike followed by some arm workouts.

I also was able to get signed up at lunch for the Star Wars Rebel Challenge for my husband & I. Super excited that I was able to get in as I heard the DVC/AP spots sold out in about 9 minutes.

Thursday, June 5th
W1D3.

A little faster than Tuesday.

Friday, June 6th
W1D5. I ended up switching what’s considered D4 & D5 as the group I workout with on Saturdays wanted to do sprints again so I did cross training today instead.

aP7SNTv.png

Saturday, June 7th
W1D4.

I was supposed to do sprints today with my coworkers but at 6AM, my coworker text messaged me & said it was off, his wife was sick & the other two coworkers that join us usually were traveling. It wasn’t worth it to do it for 3 people, I guess. So I went back to sleep until almost 9AM. It was splendid. When headed to the gym to get our run in as it was sticky outside!

D6 in this program tends to be the long run, although on week 1, its shorter than the training runs! Going only 40 seemed like a treat over the past few weeks with C210K.

Way to keep with the training. I started the TOT training this week. Hoping I can keep with it all summer

This weeks training looks great...keep up the good work and you will be more than ready for ToT!

Congrats on getting signed up for the rebel challenge. I need to be ready (and by ready I mean decide 100% or not if I am doing it) for the phm because something tells me that while it might not only take 10 minutes to sell out... presales will sell out quickly. As you mentioned the stress of doing the WDW/CL and then Star Wars... I have stress about the GSC or even just the PHM when I will have done the donald just the month before. It definitely made my own decision regarding the star wars weekend much more easy. I am glad my dh decided against it. (other than I kinda hoped he would take a guys weekend so that my girls weekend wouldn't make me feel so guilty)

Looks like a great training week. You are on to the C2HM :woohoo: That is awesome :thumbsup2

Great job this week! I admire you for getting the biking in as well...I'm sure it helps your running a lot. :thumbsup2

And CONGRATS on getting signed up for the Rebel Challenge! :yay: Can't wait to hear about it.

Yay for starting your training! :banana:You can keep up with it! Hope your Harry Potter party went well!

I sure am hoping! I'm nervous when I start running longer than 60 minutes in a couple of weeks but I have a full array of chews and hydration options for those runs.

The biking does help. I think it stretches out the muscles I tighten when I run so it works for me. When I visit my mother this weekend, I'll be able to swim in her pool as well for my cross training on Saturday.

I'm happy I was able to get on the Rebel Challenge last week! It seems that yesterday the rundisney site wasn't working but they posted the links on FB which I don't have access to at work. Glad I didn't get that stress!

Yeah, it does seem Disney races are selling out more and more quickly. I think it was late June or July when I signed up for the ToT's 5K last year & this year it was sold out in April.

I can see having the Donald then doing GSC or PHM could stress one out. Since I'm doing Star Wars - I feel I should just get my coast to coast too. Do I want to do Feb or do I just wait for Wine & Dine? Either will be solo. Only a couple weeks to decide though. A lot of the people on here are doing PHM so that makes me want to do that more but do I really want to spend another $295 right now when I have my July trip & the cruise coming up.

Glad you made the right decision for you for Star Wars.

I'm happy to be on the C2HM as well. There doesn't really seem to be training plans out for 10 Milers outside of the one from Disney. I need to decide if I'm going to use that for Star Wars or if I'm going to follow Galloway's Rebel Challenge plan starting the week we get back from ToT. Looking at the GSC plan (since its probably the same just different dates) and working backwards - it seems the week after ToT will be week 4 of the plan, which I don't think would be too horrible to start since I'll already be trained up. My daily planner right now is a mess of my trying to figure things out.

And can you believe that for the phm 2013 I didn't register until I was at the ToT 2012 expo??? :confused3

Once I get my miles back up, I am pretty sure that running a half one month and then another the following won't be too much of a problem. Like I could run 10ks back to back to back right now... it is all in the training I guess. And since I booked a room for the phm, I am pretty committed to doing it now. GSC? That might be a tad much for me. Not 100% sure I won't...but I think I may just want to save the cash. Course.. peer pressure is a powerful thing...so if my roomie does it... I might also. I don't think she is though... but I guess it is possible she will get caught up too.

As for your C2C and which race to do... if you are doing both solo... well... you would be less solo for the phm, right? ;) I get the cost though... more than anything I think that is why I would forgo the GSC. Hard to skip though if all your friends are doing it. :rotfl2: Remember... peer pressure.

Glad you made the right decision for you for Star Wars.

Thanks. I am too. Although I know that all the excitement for registration probably is one of the factors that helped me to commit to the phm.

Silly peer pressure. :rotfl2:

I have a HUGE calendar on the wall. It lists what I should be doing each day for each race. I just kinda pick the "best" option. Up until recently it was easy because I just had the DLH training. ToT started up though. Still pretty easy though... I finally getting mileage up in prep for the dlh. This weekend will be a 9 mile run. I think ToT calls for 4. So I have an easy choice. (well the choice is easy...the run ) I will run the 9 miles. But... I hear ya.. it is all a mess here too.

That's crazy considering how quickly everything sells out now. No way that would happen nowadays.

Peer pressure is a powerful thing! Especially when you have others to encourage you.

That is a good point about not really doing this solo then. I spent more this weekend at the reunion than I expected so I need to look at finances this weekend to see how everything fits together prior to sign ups.

Thats a smart way of doing it. I don't really want to redo the Couch to Half Marathon for the Rebel challenge with the two races being back to back.

June Week 2 Run Update/June Stridebox

Monday, June 9th
W1D7 - Rest Day!

Tuesday, June 10th
W2D1 - I finished @ a 14:20 pace the 45 minutes.

Wednesday, June 11th
W2D2 - 10 Miles on the Bike

Thursday, June 12th
W2D3 - Didn’t happen between work & driving up to St. Augustine to stay with my mother for my high school reunion in Jacksonville.

Friday, June 13th
W2D4 - Completed @ a 13:57 pace. As I was at my mother’s, I had to run outside as there is no gym. Also on the first night of the reunion, I did play Dance Dance Revolution @ Latitude 30 with one of my old high school friends.

Saturday, June 14th
W2D5 - 10 Miles on the exercise bike that my mother owns.

I also did some shopping while I was in Jacksonville at REI as they had the Honey Stinger brand which I can’t find around Naples so I got 4 different things of those along with the Power Bar brand. The other stuff are things that I know work for me but Shaun hasn’t tried yet.

re1kAV9.jpg

(+ 2 candy bars as well as that brand of chocolate bars are amazing & I never see them around Naples!)

I also danced for about an hour at the reunion.

Sunday, June 15th
W2D6 - Well I’m not too sure how much I really finished - I was somewhere between 35 minutes & 40 minutes when the power went out at the gym this afternoon. So I’m not sure how much distance I got either as I wasn’t paying attention when the treadmill just stopped. I waited to see if the the power would come back on but it didn't within 20 minutes.

June Stridebox

r5Rji63.jpg

My June Stridebox came in this week as well. The paper shower just makes me laugh but I’ll probably try it out after the Castaway Cay 5k unless we do another 5k between now and then. Runs at home aren’t a big deal since I can just hop in the shower. The perfect pocket just amuses me as well. Its a plastic pocket that you can stick on your skin as it holds your money/keys/id to wear during a race or run. I doubt I’ll ever use that. I usually just hide whatever I need in my sports bar >< I’m not too sure about the cooling/uv protective sleeves as I hate things on my arms when I run.

The different energy chews, bars, gels and electrolytes will just be added to the basket of different chews we have going on from my various shopping sprees. I think so far my favorites have been the FRS Chews or the Jelly Belly ones.

Looks like you had a good week in all aspects! Way to stay active during a busy weekend away!!!

I am a fan of honey stinger. Waffles taste really good to me...but I am not sure how well they would work for me during my runs. The chew though are definitely my FAVORITES.

Your stridebox is interesting. I think the pocket thing would make me too nervous to use. It just sticks to your skin? And..on that... you just put things in your bra? Do you chaff? I know as my mileage goes up... so does my chaffing risk. (OMG, 9 miles on Saturday with an armband that needed to be replaced and I look like I stuck the underside of my arm to a hot plate) Maybe keep that in mind if you haven't hit the "higher" miles (not sure 9 is considered high by some...it kinda is to me.) AND... maybe you won't chaff... I just know that I have that problem on occasion. Oh... and what is the paper shower? Are we talking some sort of cleansing cloth?

I felt like I wasn't really active enough to be honest considering how busy the week was but I guess writing it out makes it seem more than what happened in my mind.

I'm excited to finally try honey stinger out. When do you eat the waffles if not during your run?

It does just stick to your skin for the pocket thing. During races, the only thing I've had on my other than my phone on the arm band is my car key which yes goes in the sports bra. Chews have also gone in there during training outdoor runs and haven't had a problem either. I haven't chaffed yet but I have one of those plastic keyless keys so its not like its metal on my skin. I haven't really hit high miles yes so maybe it would be different once I get up there. High to me is anything over what I've actually ran so over 5 miles?

The paper shower is pretty much just a different type of cleansing cloth to use after a race or run or something. I don't see the point unless after a neon or color run where I wouldn't want that mess in my car.

I get that. I think there are weeks that to me I feel like I am having a bad week (or a good one) Then to just look at it in writing or in the stats it looks different for some reason.

When the rep hands them out to me for free. :rotfl2: Seriously though.. I don't know. I have one that I plan to probably take with me on my next long run (11 miles) when I have the room in my skirt to carry it. I figure it would have to be used when I am running far enough that I might stop for walk break or a bio break. Maybe then? Normally, I pop a chew in my mouth as I am running. Easy to grab and easy to pop in my mouth. Even gels are complicated for me since they have to be opened while on the run and then squiggied out.

Hopefully you won't chaff. For me though.. my chaffing miles happen after about 5. (sometimes maybe 4 sometimes it doesn't start until 6) If I am lucky, I have taken well enough precautions that I don't. Maybe that is why you aren't? Maybe you are good about having everything properly placed. My arm is not in great shape after saturday's run. It was just a slight misplacement of the strap on the arm band. Nothing I noticed until after I was about an hour into the run. Had I just taken the extra two seconds to be sure that the arm band wasn't pinching I would not have the bad "burn" that I do.

Maybe after something like ToT? I know that last year they handed out special wash clothes and they were like HEAVEN. (except when I didn't realize there was some sort of cooling/bio freeze type agent on them and ran it over my lips. :rotfl2: Lets just say my lips were numb :lmao:)

Honey Stinger waffles are goooooood. I tried them on a run a couple of months ago (chocolate flavor one day, vanilla flavor the other day), and it was so delicious! I've heard people have them for snacks sometimes too with peanut butter. :)

Love the stinger waffles...they are my favorite long race prefueling!

I haven't tried the waffles. I will have to pick some up and give them a try. I use Sports Beans and also a Cliff Bar for long runs. I am not a caffeine gal, no sodas or coffee for me, but I will have a little before a race (especially an early morning one). I alternate the caffeinated beans with the non caffeinated ones. the one thing I CANNOT seem to do is the gel. Had it one year at PHM and almost vomited. I think the fact that there was no water stop nearby was a big part of that

Very true! At least with mapmyrun, I log all my cardio work in there so I can compare week by week easily as well.

Like yesterday, I was just going through the motions to make sure I got some type of run in but I didn't finish the full run as I wasn't feeling it & I wanted to be able to shower & get a real dinner before our movie.

Chews definately work better for running. Shaun & I were discussing that last night. He seems to like the Clif Shots more than the Beans.

I ended up just eating it for breakfast this morning as I had no desire to make anything. That thing is tasty!

I've had a strap issue before when I had it too tight and pinched my arm fat and got this lovely pinch that looks liked a hickey when it bruised up. That was fun explaining to my friends! :headache:

I'll have to keep in mind as my runs get longer than an hour.

Maybe after something like ToT? I know that last year they handed out special wash clothes and they were like HEAVEN. (except when I didn't realize there was some sort of cooling/bio freeze type agent on them and ran it over my lips. :rotfl2: Lets just say my lips were numb :lmao:)

I bet that cloth was heaven! Nothing feels better after a run than getting the sweat off.

I've made that mistake of Tiger Balm on my lips before after I had put it on my ankle then didn't think. Its a funky feeling!

I had the vanilla this morning for breakfast. They are good!

I could see it being a good prefuel.

They were super cheap at REI if you have one near you.

I was doing really well until I went to San Diego in May on the lack of caffeine & soda & coffee. I pretty much only had water. Since that trip, I've been bad. I really need to wean myself off of Energy Drinks & Coffee & Diet Mountain Dew again. I don't drink as much as I used to but its still bad. It might also be one of the reasons my weightloss has come to a practical stop. The one time I've tried a gel, I gagged. I want to try it again just to see if its all gels or just the one I tried out.

I used to drink almost a two liter a day of soda and then too it off with caffeinated tea. I stopped cold turkey, and it was hard, but it's amazing the small changes that have happened since then. I do still, occasionally, have a glass if iced tea while out at a restaurant, but I definitely feel the effects and if i have more than one glass I won't sleep that night.

The good thing too is pre race caffeine REALLY works well now. A few caffeinated sports beans and I am ready to go!
