April Week 5 Running Update

Monday, April 28th

40 Minutes on the Bike. Stayed around a 16MPH pace. Upper body work as well.

Tuesday, April 29th

When I got home from work, I changed and decided on running outside rather than going to the gym for the treadmill. That was a mistake. It was hot! 95 degrees type hot & the shade was nonexistent on the route my husband and I took. About 20 minutes in, I just wanted to give in. We turned back and started walking more than running & getting back home with 9 minutes left on W10D1 run but I’m just going to consider it complete ;) We ended up doing 2.85 miles at a 14:44 pace.

Wednesday, April 30th

Rest Day! Should have been a cross training day but the gym had one of those member parties & I try to avoid those days as they tend to be overcrowded with people wanting the free food rather than those trying to get a workout in. I met a friend for PF Changs & girl talk.

Thursday, May 1st

Kinda a rest day? I don’t think I can call it that though as I was one of the leaders at work for the physical inventory that was today so it involved a lot of product lifting (where most of what I was dealing with was between 20 and 40 lbs) and squats. I also then got to drive to Disney for my first May trip where I spent the late evening walking through Magic Kingdom!

Trip report is here: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3235482

Friday, May 2nd

W10D2 Work Out. I woke up super early on my first full day of my Disney weekend to get this over with. I’m glad I did as I was alone for the majority of the run. It was one of my better runs in a while considering last week I was so bleh & earlier this week, the heat stopped me from completing.

Saturday, May 3rd

W10D3! I normally don’t do these workouts back to back but for some reason during my afternoon break, I decided to run instead of using the bike. After my first 14 minutes on the first treadmill, I got really annoyed how the buttons on the treadmill handle bars weren’t working to play with speed & I was only able to adjust on the touchscreen which doesn’t work well when I run so I stopped and moved to the treadmill next to it. Well that treadmill was off balance and if I went above 4.5, it would start shaking heavily as I ran. At that point, I just said screw it, I’m not moving again and just didn’t go above 4.5 for the rest of the 58 minute session.

Overall combining the two runs, my speed wasn’t too horrible all things considered. As I know I didn’t put my all into the run, I also got some of my upper body work done with the small selection of equipment the Grand Floridian fitness center did have.

Sunday, May 4th

I ended up getting up and out of Disney early this morning. I was home before 10AM! Once my husband got home from work, we headed to the gym where we did 40 minutes on the bike. While he did upper body, I just did abs & core work.

I also made the fun mistake of getting on the scale when I got home. Up 3 pounds from 3 days at Disney! Here’s to hoping its mostly just water retention & I’ll see if its back down tomorrow. San Diego isn’t going to help much either on the weight loss but I’ll be trying to keep up with my runs at least there as well.

Looks like you had a good week! (except for the 95 degree run day - YUCK) I am super impressed that you got in your runs in disney! That is no easy task. I can sometimes get a couple miles...but over 4 not once but twice? :worship: Good job!!! :thumbsup2

I popped over and took a peak at your TR for the weekend. Sorry I didn't know you had the PTR going for it... or maybe I did? I can't keep track of my own reports ... makes it hard to remember who has what going.

I am super jealous that you stayed at VGF. I really would love to stay there. You were in a studio? Would it sleep 3 adults and a child comfortably...for maybe just one night?

All the food you had, think you did very well only gaining 3 pounds. I think I gained 3 just looking at what you ate! :rotfl: Seriously though... I bet it was water weight if not... I am sure it will come right back off.

Looks like a great weekend...and to be back by 10am this morning? I truly envy you living so close :goodvibes

Oh my! 95-degree temperatures!!! That is rough, but way to stick it out!

Woohoo for a Magic Kingdom day trip! Sounds like you earned it after all of that physical labor. And WAY TO GO on getting your runs in while at Disney! :worship:

I bet that 3 pounds will come off quickly...Disney is not kind to those of us trying to lose or maintain a weight loss! Hopefully a few days of being back to normal will do the trick.

Great job this week!!! :)

It was a much better week than the one before which is good. I'm going to have to start getting used to the 95 degrees at least for this month and for my long sunday runs starting in June as the treadmill at the gym stops after 60 minutes. I'm glad I was able to get the runs in too!

There are so many reports going on - its hard to keep track of it all. I sometimes read a TR or PTR and I'm like, I'll reply to that later and then forget until like a week later.

I am super jealous that you stayed at VGF. I really would love to stay there. You were in a studio? Would it sleep 3 adults and a child comfortably...for maybe just one night?

I loved VGF. I was in a studio as we only stay in studios as its either just myself or my husband & I. To sleep 3 adults & a child would be ok for one night although storage space for stuff could be a problem as they don't have a ton of storage space.

All the food you had, think you did very well only gaining 3 pounds. I think I gained 3 just looking at what you ate! :rotfl: Seriously though... I bet it was water weight if not... I am sure it will come right back off.

When I weighed myself this morning, I was back to where I was pre-trip. At least it was all water weight!

Looks like a great weekend...and to be back by 10am this morning? I truly envy you living so close :goodvibes

I left at 7:00AM as I figured just getting home was better than just wasting the morning. I had too much to do with getting laundry done & ready for San Diego plus having to work on Monday.

Oh my! 95-degree temperatures!!! That is rough, but way to stick it out!

Thanks :)
I'm glad I was able to go solo. I didn't do as much of the Flower & Garden festival as I wanted but the rain just wouldn't go away. It is that time of year sadly for florida. I'm glad that weight came off quickly as I was back to normal this morning.

:worship: I NEVER plan to get out in 95 degree weather to run. (::ssst: don't tell my DLH running buddy. I promised to not avoid runs in the heat... but 95 is a bit warmer than I can commit to. :rotfl:)

There are so many reports going on - its hard to keep track of it all. I sometimes read a TR or PTR and I'm like, I'll reply to that later and then forget until like a week later.

I do that too... but then also I never even get over to some reports. I am sure there has to be more PTRs going for the ToT weekend (as well as other race weekends)...but I have not really subscribed to many (maybe just yours? :confused)

Well, it is pretty much moot since there is no availability... but at one point there was a studio available for just the first night. Then we would leave most everything in the car since we would switch the next day so storage would not be a huge issue.

Unfortunately, I don't have a choice to avoid it. The treadmills at the gym max out at 60 minutes which is going to be rough this month since all the C210K runs left for the next 3 weeks are over that with 67 minutes, 70 minutes and 75 minutes.

I do that too... but then also I never even get over to some reports. I am sure there has to be more PTRs going for the ToT weekend (as well as other race weekends)...but I have not really subscribed to many (maybe just yours? :confused)

I know there are some reports I never get to either. I know i'm subscribed to 4 of them (Yours, Tinker326, StayCool, EcbLovesMickey) but there might be more that I haven't read yet.

Too bad it isn't available anymore! Maybe it may open up again or there is always the wait list.

May Week 1 Running Update/May Stridebox

Monday, May 5th

Today was a rough day. I got out of work, had to take the dogs to the kennels, packed for San Diego & then I was planning on going straight to the gym. When this happened, my phone fell & it shattered. The first iPhone I have ever shattered & it had to be the day before leaving for a trip. I threw on real pants & visited my husband at work & spent $400 on an early upgrade & new phone. I was so frustrated I ended up going to the gym at 8:45pm after I got the new phone and set up to still run even though I didn’t really have time in order to get sleep and finish getting ready for the next trip. This was a good run for overall pace because I was so mad at myself. This was Week 11 Day 1 of C210K - 2 minutes short but the gym was closing & I needed to get going.

a6IWnlR.png

I also tried that blueberry chia gel that I got in April’s Stridebox. It made me gag but I really am not a blueberry fan. It did work to help me complete the run decently though.

Tuesday, May 6th

There was no way to really work out today. We flew out early & arrived in San Diego shortly after 1PM Pacific Time. We had to register the hotel & for the company event. We did walk a fair amount that afternoon & evening between welcome dinners, registrations and then bar hopping in the evening in the Gaslamp district.

Wednesday, May 7th

I woke up at 5:40 to get my run in prior to going to La Jolla with some of the other guests while our SOs were at their meetings.

ORpdF8s.png

The W11D2 run was a lot slower than Monday’s but I drank a fair amount the night before and didn’t drink enough water but at least it wasn’t too horrible.

Thursday, May 8th

I didn’t have an official work out today. I did spend about an hour in the pool alone in the morning as my husband had his last meeting of the trip & the other ladies were sleeping in as they stayed out until 2:30am in Gaslamp. (My husband & I left the group around 11PM as I was tired)

We also walked the entire San Diego Zoo.

Friday, May 9th

We woke up around 6:30AM & headed to the fitness center. I only did 30 minutes on the treadmill but I’ll just kinda consider it my W11D3 workout as we also walked another 10 miles around San Diego.

q2b5rJW.png

Saturday, May 10th

Rest day as there just wasn’t any time. We left the hotel at 5:00AM in San Diego & traveled all day back to Naples. We finally got home at 7:00PM & I needed to get unpacked & settled back into normal life.

Sunday, May 11th

W12D1 Run. I figured that all my running in May has been on treadmills, I needed to get on the road. Shortly before 3PM, I headed out to the road. This was a horrible run. 4.2 miles @ 15:50 pace.

May Stridebox

When I got our mail Saturday evening, my May Stridebox was in the box.

Ez2yLIT.jpg

I really liked this month’s box. 3 different types of energy bars/chews to try during my long runs I’m now doing. There are also 4 servings of fluid type hydration that I will try out pre-runs to see if it helps as well.

The other thing I’m really excited about it the Muscle Rub. My husband might be stealing that from me though.

The detergent is um interesting. I’ll give it a try on a few of the ‘stinky’ gym loads that tend to happen when my husband and I have run days on the same day. I don’t think I would buy something like that but I’ll use it if I get it for ‘free.’

Eat to the Beat

The list of performers has been announced for my trips!
For Trip #1: Jo Dee Messina is playing 9/19 to 9/21. I think I’ve heard her songs before on the country radio. I’m not too excited but we may stop by.

For Trip #2: 9/30 to 10/2 is Air Supply. 10/3 to 10/5 is Starship. Not excited about either of them so we won’t be going to any of those concerts this trip. I’m also super sad I’m missing Hanson by 1 day again! I keep doing this.

For Trip #3: 10/30 to 10/31 is Dennis DeYoung, original member of STYK. I am a little excited for that at least with my mother as i know she likes it. 11/1 is 38 Special. My mother will be more excited for them than me but they are a rock band that originated in her hometown in the late 80s when she was in high school so I can understand that.

Great job on the increased mileage! You are doing great with sticking to your workout plan! :thumbsup2

And I can think of no better way to get a workout in than to walk around the San Diego Zoo! That's my idea of fun exercise!

I think after seeing you and a few others post about the stride box, that I'm going to check it out.......

Have a great week!

I’m also super sad I’m missing Hanson by 1 day again! I keep doing this.

Hanson is playing during my dates. I admit I'm totally curious about seeing them -- all I know is (of course) MMMMMbop. :rotfl: Are they good in concert? :confused3

Unfortunately, I don't have a choice to avoid it. The treadmills at the gym max out at 60 minutes which is going to be rough this month since all the C210K runs left for the next 3 weeks are over that with 67 minutes, 70 minutes and 75 minutes.

I am sorry. :sad2: Do you try early morning to avoid it a bit? That is what I have always done during our warm months.

Wow... also you have 3 weeks left of the C210k? :cool1: You are doing awesome!!

I know there are some reports I never get to either. I know i'm subscribed to 4 of them (Yours, Tinker326, StayCool, EcbLovesMickey) but there might be more that I haven't read yet.

I recognize the names..... :sad2: guess I have been missing out.

Too bad it isn't available anymore! Maybe it may open up again or there is always the wait list.

I have the one waitlist still hanging in there. I am hopeful.. but if it doesn't come through then I am looking at 3 different rooms already. I don't want to put in a waitlist for VGF or even book something until I know I am staying put for the second half of my trip.

I think with coast to coast travel.. that just takes it out of you. So walking.. that really counts!!

I hate the travel to east coast from west coast... the all day event is exhausting.

All of the products sound interesting. I will be curious to see how you like the detergent.

For Trip #1: Jo Dee Messina is playing 9/19 to 9/21. I think I’ve heard her songs before on the country radio. I’m not too excited but we may stop by.

Not familiar with this one... probably wouldn't stop either

For Trip #2: 9/30 to 10/2 is Air Supply. 10/3 to 10/5 is Starship. Not excited about either of them so we won’t be going to any of those concerts this trip. I’m also super sad I’m missing Hanson by 1 day again! I keep doing this.

As you can imagine, these are both on my potential list too. Not a fan of either... I probably won't stop. At least the next one toward the end of my trip I might stop for. Although he really wasn't all that great the last time I saw him there.

For Trip #3: 10/30 to 10/31 is Dennis DeYoung, original member of STYK. I am a little excited for that at least with my mother as i know she likes it. 11/1 is 38 Special. I think after seeing you and a few others post about the stride box, that I'm going to check it out.......

Have a great week!

I had to stick to the workout plan to even out the amount of alcohol I may have consumed in San Diego. Since getting back, I've only had water to help balance out how bad I was and will probably stay like that for the next couple of weeks (at least until Star Wars Weekends) At least I ended up trip only up 1 pound!

San Diego Zoo was great. I'll probably get an update in on my May trip report once I finish up with my the Disney stuff (only 2 updates left for that though)

I like the Stridebox but I haven't really found products I'm in love with yet. I did really enjoy the cliff powder that came in this month's box. The other I really loved was so expensive sadly. I know Ariel484 hasn't been too happy with them but she's a bit more into this running thing than me so I like trying out new until I find something that works.

Hanson is playing during my dates. I admit I'm totally curious about seeing them -- all I know is (of course) MMMMMbop. :rotfl: Are they good in concert? :confused3

Hanson was my band growing up. I owned all their CDs, may have been a member of the fan club, etc. I liked them more than the other boy bands at the time. That said, I have never seen them in concert. In high school, they never traveled close enough & in college, I just didn't have the extra money to make the trip. It also seems I keep just missing them when they are at Disney but I don't have the Vacation time to make it happen without messing with other plans. One of these days I will see them!

I am sorry. :sad2: Do you try early morning to avoid it a bit? That is what I have always done during our warm months.

Early mornings would only work on Sundays for me. During the week, I'm at work around 5:30AM & I don't really want to run at 4AM as I live on the outskirts of the 'rural' part of Naples where we know there are bears, panthers, wild dogs, etc as the streets aren't lighted. During the day, I don't worry about those things as they should be hiding by that point but seeing as I've almost hit a Florida Panther driving into work before, I don't want to go running by it!

Wow... also you have 3 weeks left of the C210k? :cool1: You are doing awesome!!
Thanks! I do only have 3 weeks left - too bad I don't have a race to really be training for outside of ToT

I have the one waitlist still hanging in there. I am hopeful.. but if it doesn't come through then I am looking at 3 different rooms already. I don't want to put in a waitlist for VGF or even book something until I know I am staying put for the second half of my trip.
I can understand that. I wouldn't want to move 3 times in a vacation; heck, I haven't liked it when I've changed once during a vacation.

What a day! I am so sorry about your phone...and especially the cost to replace it. Look at you with your pace though?!! I think you are right about where I was when I was finishing up my C210K. :thumbsup2

Yeah - its always fun to have unexpected expenses. I'm glad it helped my pace a fair amount! I am selling my shattered phone on ebay though & its already at $232 so I should only be out $200 unless it greatly increases in bids in the next day. I'm still glad to be getting at least half back!

I have such a hard time with gels... no matter what the kind they always make me gag.

That very well may be the case with me but I need to try a few more until I decide that for sure. I tried one of the chews yesterday & it seemed to work even though it was a sucky run

I think with coast to coast travel.. that just takes it out of you. So walking.. that really counts!!

I hate the travel to east coast from west coast... the all day event is exhausting.
It does! It made me feel for the west coasters & their travels to WDW. It also is making me reconsider some of the planning I have in place for our anniversary trip to Las Vegas.

Well, I wonder if it was a bit warm and humid. Not to mention you just had a long travel day the day before.
Probably a combination of those along with my left ankle being slightly swollen from all the walking. (According to my pedometer, I need about 45 miles between the runs & the walking while at San Diego, although the week before when I did Disney I did 58 miles for the week when all said & done)

All of the products sound interesting. I will be curious to see how you like the detergent.
I'll probably try it out on Sunday after I have my husband's gym clothes & my P90X from Saturday & Sunday's run.

As you can imagine, these are both on my potential list too. Not a fan of either... I probably won't stop. At least the next one toward the end of my trip I might stop for. Although he really wasn't all that great the last time I saw him there.

True!

:scared: I don't blame you!

Thanks! I do only have 3 weeks left - too bad I don't have a race to really be training for outside of ToT

I think it is still impressive to almost be through it regardless of having a race lined up or not.

I can understand that. I wouldn't want to move 3 times in a vacation; heck, I haven't liked it when I've changed once during a vacation.

Yeah, and after all my recent drama (that you are aware of) it could turn out to more move yet. Probably would do my best to avoid it if at all possible.

Yeah - its always fun to have unexpected expenses. I'm glad it helped my pace a fair amount! I am selling my shattered phone on ebay though & its already at $232 so I should only be out $200 unless it greatly increases in bids in the next day. I'm still glad to be getting at least half back!

Cool you are able to sell it on ebay and recoup some of your cost!

That very well may be the case with me but I need to try a few more until I decide that for sure. I tried one of the chews yesterday & it seemed to work even though it was a sucky run

I hope you find one that works.

It does! It made me feel for the west coasters & their travels to WDW. It also is making me reconsider some of the planning I have in place for our anniversary trip to Las Vegas.

It really isn't fun... add in a layover (or two) and it is SOOO taxing.

Probably a combination of those along with my left ankle being slightly swollen from all the walking. (According to my pedometer, I need about 45 miles between the runs & the walking while at San Diego, although the week before when I did Disney I did 58 miles for the week when all said & done)

I think you did great considering! :thumbsup2

I'll probably try it out on Sunday after I have my husband's gym clothes & my P90X from Saturday & Sunday's run.

Well, be sure to give a review. :goodvibes

The only one I've really watched has been Sugar Ray.

Yup, he is probably the one I will end up catching.

May Week 2 Running Update

Monday, May 12th

31 minutes on the bike at the gym. No muscle work. My first day back to work was super rough as I had a lot of things I needed to take care of as they weren’t done by others when I was out last week & I was drained by the time I got home.

Tuesday, May 13th
l4RnbF8.png

I really didn’t feel like doing a full work out today, in fact, I almost skipped doing anything. At 7PM, I got bored though and decided to just run to the dead end part of my street & back to the house. My husband joined me. He slows me down when we start talking but it wasn’t something for speed just doing something small rather than nothing.

I did try to sign us up for the Memorial Day 10K in Punta Gorda but it was sold out :( So now we won’t be able to get PoT for ToT as my husband doesn’t want to drive to Miami Memorial Day weekend for one of their 10Ks. I wish I hadn’t delayed signing up.

I did sign us up for a local 5K on memorial day - it was only $18 per person.

W12D2 Work Out! I ended up meeting one of my girl friends at the gym this evening around 5:30PM. We were talking some as we haven’t seen each other in almost 2 weeks (I’ve been super busy!) It was raining so I wouldn’t have been able to run outside anyway. It was finally a decent(ish) run but it was on the treadmill so not really how I run on the road.

W12D3 Work Out!

It was my AWS day so I had off of work. As I was home in the morning, I went for a run on the streets instead of the gym. It was a great road run for me until the very end but I forgot to bring one of the energy chews to have at the 30 minute marks & I could feel my energy waning towards that last .5 mile.

P90X Plyometrics with my coworkers. My legs are still hurting me.

W13D1 run. It was nice to cut back to 56 minutes after having hour longer runs for the past 6 sessions!

Looks like you had a good week. Especially today's run! :cool1:

Sorry you didn't get signed up for the 10k in time. I have been on the fence regarding several races and am expecting that I will find they are sold out before I get around to deciding.

Good for you in getting out even for a bit when you didn't want to. You are right... something is definitely better than nothing! :thumbsup2

That stinks that you didn't get into the 10K you were looking at. If your area is anything like mine, 10Ks are somewhat rare...so I can appreciate how frustrating that is.

Sounds like a pretty decent week even if you weren't feeling it...like you said, something is better than nothing. Sometimes the mental battle is the toughest part. Way to get out there! :yay:

Again, GREAT job with the distances and the pacing! You are doing awesome!!!!

Sorry about the 10K!!

It was a good week overall. Definitely getting back into the groove after having traveled so much at the beginning of the month. At least our next trip is only 3 days & I know its going to involve a ton of walking so when I start the official 'half-marthon' app training the week after I won't be behind.

Yeah, I was trying to wait until we had the excess money without having to put it on credit but between having to pay federal taxes, pay off the cruise & needing cash for the early May trips, I just waited too long. Learned my lesson so it won't happen next year if we chose to do the ToT again (or if Star Wars gets announced) Hopefully yours won't be sold out.

I think giving my muscles a rest as much as I did for the core/arm work was a good thing actually. When I did that this afternoon, I didn't struggle at all even going up in weight (15 reps at where I've been then stepping up for the new two sets) so it seems the muscles liked the rest.

Yeah, my area is like yours. 10Ks are really rare. It seems I could find a 5k to run every single weekend if I wanted but 10Ks would involve some traveling to get to. It also doesn't help that race season in Florida is waning because its getting up in humidity & temperature.

That mental battle has been an ongoing thing & probably will continue to be.

Again, GREAT job with the distances and the pacing! You are doing awesome!!!!

Sorry about the 10K!!

Thanks! I'll be happy if I finish ToT around 13/14 minute miles. Maybe I'll improve but I want to be realistic.

At least I learned my lesson about delaying.

You're doing great. Way to stay motivated. TOT will be here before we know it!
