No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try. - ToT 10 Miler & F&W - Updated 12/21

Checking back in and catching up...looks like you are doing a lot of thinking! Hope you find the answer that you are looking for in regards to PHM. I know it is tough to figure out...

Checking back in...I need to be better with keeping up with all of these running PTRs!!!

Way to go doing P90X with your running...! :worship: I'm thinking about ordering P90X3 but it kind of scares me!

Suggestion for the Princess Half weekend 5K (if you end up doing it)...I noticed you said you'd do it for pictures only. I did that race with my friends this year and we started in Corral D - because we were so far back the picture lines were HUGE. We ended up not stopping! So try your best to be as close to the front as possible or be prepared to have a loooooong 5K. We still took a lot of pictures, but none with characters.

In being nosey and reading through your comments to others :teeth:, I don't think you're crazy to contemplate the Glass Slipper challenge. If you're trained for the half marathon and are smart about how you spend race weekend, you should be good! ::yes::

That's awesome. I'm sure we'll end up crossing some path at the race or I'll end up crossing path with at least a couple of the people that are doing ToT & doing pre Trip Reports.

I hope so! I have done everything from a quick "omg, I know you and we just happened to run in to each other" meet to a planned hello grab a pic together to a full blown sharing a room/vacation together. Any of those are enjoyable. So definitely stop and wave to me if you see me if we don't plan to meet up!!!
The Glass Slipper Challenge is the 10K & Half-Marathon

I'm on the fence for a few reasons.
1) I know my husband wouldn't run this one with me.

mine neither...

2) Not sure if the females in the work group I exercise with are serious or not about wanting to do the race, especially given the cost, or if they are planning on having their husbands come or not. Our sunset yoga got cancelled today thanks to weather so I won't be able to talk to them until Saturday during P90X about that.

This is kind of me too... I don't know if I have anyone coming with me... but probably wouldn't have anyone run the race. Luckily though, I do think there is someone I could meet up with to hang out.
3) If I can handle running 3 races in 3 days - yes I would for sure be walking the 5k, its the next two days that scare me some. I'm not horribly worried about time as I know I'm on the slower side but I know by that time I shouldn't be horribly worried about pace to be able to enjoy the course. With getting the stops in during the 5k, it gives me less to stop for during the 10K & Half-Marathon.

Given the race is 10 months away, I am sure as long as nothing happens between now and then with your training... and you keep at it - you should be able to handle all three races just fine :thumbsup2

4) I would have to drive home the day of the half marathon so hopefully the 2 hours of recovery time between the end of the race & having to check out would be enough for the 3 hour drive home.

That is a tricky one. I am not sure I would be up for a 3 hour drive home after a half...with only 2 hours recovery. Maybe if someone else was driving...

5) Am I crazy to sign up for this type of challenge without having finished my first long distance run & knowing if I can finish it or not?

I do not at all think it is crazy. If you set a goal and stick to it.. why is it crazy to think you will achieve that goal?

Thanks! I hope I get answers too but at least I have 2+ months to figure it out!

There are a lot of running PTRs going on. It does get hard to keep up with on busy weeks which may end up being me in May as I have tons going on then.

I'm only doing P90X once a week with the work out group. We used to do Sprints on Saturday mornings instead but too many people were hurting themselves as it would be the only time in a week they work out. So we're going to end up switching between P90X & Insanity & possibly Zumba videos instead.

Yeah, I figured the picture lines would be long but with time not being a goal for that, I should be ok. Hopefully I'll have a decent PoT for corral placing. We are in C for the ToT 5k last year.

Its good to hear others don't think I'm crazy. Sometimes I am my own worst enemy when it comes to my thoughts.

Sounds good to me!

There does seem to be a large group of the pre-trip reporters going at least so we would have those people to hang out with but everyone is at different paces for running so I'm sure there won't be many to run with. I'm about 3:00min/mil slower than the two I would be going to race with.

Given the race is 10 months away, I am sure as long as nothing happens between now and then with your training... and you keep at it - you should be able to handle all three races just fine :thumbsup2

I'm going to knock on some wood for that comment ;) Its been about 18 months since I last killed my ankle which is the longest I have ever gone without hurting it since I first hurt it when I was 13.

That is a tricky one. I am not sure I would be up for a 3 hour drive home after a half...with only 2 hours recovery. Maybe if someone else was driving…

Hence the comment about people's husbands going or not as well. I know my husband wouldn't be able to go as he'll be taking off time 2 weeks beforehand for our Las Vegas trip for our anniversary. Its either drive home that day or wake up at 3AM to drive to work that Monday as I won't be able to take the time off with the trips I have planned for 2015. (Having to earn vacation before you use it sucks rather than getting a yearly allotment to use)

I do not at all think it is crazy. If you set a goal and stick to it.. why is it crazy to think you will achieve that goal?

As many of my exercise and fitness goals have fell through since I started college. Its a mental thing I know. Weight has constantly been an issue for me as I haven't been skinny since my senior year of high school when I did not properly take care of myself at all (barely eating, 3 hr of exercise a day, which wasn't healthy)

April Week 3 Running Update

Monday, April 14th

45 Minutes on Bike along with upper body work.

Tuesday, April 15th
UrtOyFe.png

W8D1! My husband joined me for the first 2 miles (which is how much it is to run around the street). Its funny how when he left me, my pace increased. I told him that when I got home for my final .61, my pace was closer to where I was the last two times. I think its because we start talking during the walk portions which slows me down. The humidity is also starting to rise which is a good thing for training for ToT!

Wednesday, April 16th

Rest day! Which turned out well as today was one of those days where I worked 11.5 hours without stopping, pretty much skipping lunch.

Thursday, April 17th

What was originally planned for today did not happen. I was supposed to be meeting up with about 6 of my friends between work and outside of work for Sunset Yoga @ Vanderbilt Beach; however, this is what started at 3:00PM and was going to continue for a while!

xuNjED8.png

I debated on being lazy or going to the gym as obviously I couldn’t run outside. I was good & did end up going.

jJNtiyg.jpg

I was a little slower on the bike than I was on Tuesday but I was talking to my husband for about 6 minutes of the bike ride to discuss the changes to one of our May trips thanks to his work. (See May 2014 Pre-Trip soon to be Trip Report for that)

Friday, April 18th

Today is my AWS day & my husband also was closing. He wanted to go to the gym & then out to breakfast. As I went to the gym the night before, it was a run day for me & I really didn’t want to run on the treadmill. So we compromised, he would drive to the gym and I would just adjust my run and run to gym rather than my usual loop around the street.

I ended up getting close to the gym when I still had half of my W8D2 run left so I ended up looping around part of the neighborhood behind the shopping complex. As its one of those $500K+ communities, the trails there are really nice & I need to remember that when I start doing long runs as when I mapped out the loop from my house through that entire neighborhood trail & back, its a 8.13 mile loop.

1XTb7AO.png

This doesn’t include most of my ‘warmup’ or ‘cooldown.’ By the time I got to the gym, my husband was still in his circuit so I was able to get some abwork and leg work done without wanting to die. I was pouring sweat more than usual as I entered the gym so I looked at the weather & noticed this:

mr3VQdc.png

98% humidity! No wonder I was sweating that much.

Saturday, April 19th

P90X Kenpo X with the coworkers. I know this is the easier of the P90X workouts but that’s fine with me! We were outside in my coworker’s backyard in 75% humidity so we got a good sweat going.

The other thing I accomplished was purchasing the Zen Fitness Half Marathon trainer application. It is a trainer for a run/walk half marathon but I’m also aware enough to know I will not be able to run a full 10 miles. ($9.99! - the most I ever spent on an iPhone app) I have myself starting that once I finish the C210K app so W1D1 starts June 3rd. I ended up writing down the workouts in my daily planner and noticed it had me ending the workouts on the Sunday of my Labor Day cruise so about 4 weeks too early. I counted back from the ‘finish’ of October 4th for ToT and instead of doing W13D3 (the 220 min run) I’m going to be going back to the start of Week 9 instead so that I’m ‘finishing’ when its time for the race. This is mostly for selfish reasons as I don’t want to spend 220 minutes on the Sunday of my cruise running especially when you consider how much the fare costs. All of the long runs are planned for Sundays which work great for my schedule & I can guarantee I can do them outside provided we aren’t having horrible rain storms & the Saturdays are supposed to be cross training days which works well with the workout group no longer doing sprints but workout videos instead.

Sunday, April 20th

E2xTjP6.png

W8D3! I again ran to the gym this morning through my extra long path behind the shopping center as my husband wanted to do his workout as well. I was somewhat slower today but I’m noticing a pattern that drinking more than one cocktail the night before slows me down, which makes complete sense.

That is a LONG work day! I know you know... but skipping lunch is no beno! Course... I know first hand how even when we know we should eat well... life can kinda get in the way.

Good for you for gong to the gym.. .cause WOW that weather!

It is neat that you can talk to him while you get your work out in. When I am out running, I rarely if ever have anyone with me. Even if I do though... I huff and puff to much to discuss anything.

It is great you are looking at routes for your longer runs. It can get challenging to get those distances in...at least without doubling back on the route. At least that is the case for me....

Oh my! That is humid!!! We get humid here...but not THAT high (we also don't get the temps that make it even worse) I guess that is training in FL for you though, right?

Funny how alcohol will do that. :rotfl2:

Great job this week! You're doing awesome

Thanks!

Yay for starting on W8!!!
Thanks! Tonight starts W9 & having to run for 54 minutes rather than the maximum of 40.

That is a LONG work day! I know you know... but skipping lunch is no beno! Course... I know first hand how even when we know we should eat well... life can kinda get in the way.
I do know. I guess I should admit I ate about half a cup of granola while running around like a crazy at my desk but not really eating lunch like I usually do. I hate having days like that but such is the life of an engineer when your coworkers are out sick or tied up with other things. Lots of stuff has been changing around work which is going to keep me really busy but if you get stuff done, it usually just results in more work.

Good for you for gong to the gym.. .cause WOW that weather!
That one actually isn't too bad. It's only going to get worse as we get more and more into summer. I think I posted how my street looked like September in my Fall 2013 trip report after the 2 weeks of rain but hopefully no street flooding this year. Crossing my fingers!

It is neat that you can talk to him while you get your work out in. When I am out running, I rarely if ever have anyone with me. Even if I do though... I huff and puff to much to discuss anything.
I wouldn't be able to talk if I was running as I huff and puff too. I usually try to stay away from talking while working out but as I hadn't really talked to him since Tuesday evening with our work schedules & he wasn't getting home until after I went to bed, I just adjusted accordingly.

It is great you are looking at routes for your longer runs. It can get challenging to get those distances in...at least without doubling back on the route. At least that is the case for me....
I'm really lucky that Naples seems to have been planned well. It has lots of bike lanes and sidewalks no matter where you are in town so I should be pretty good to avoid doubling back outside of going back up and down my street if I still have time left after I finish my planned route. I'm also lucky that in the area of town that I live in, I'll only have to cross one busy intersection.

Oh my! That is humid!!! We get humid here...but not THAT high (we also don't get the temps that make it even worse) I guess that is training in FL for you though, right?

It is training in FL! The 70s is actually a lower temperature I've been running in. Usually its the mid 80s! At least I know my pace won't suffer too much at ToT as it will be able the same or better than what I train in. :goodvibes

I still find all of you who can get these extra workouts in to be amazing! I can barely fit in running.
Well, when you have no children to worry about, extra time works out well in my favor. My husband also works a lot of evenings & weekends so I have lots of time alone where I have to find ways to entertain myself (and I do get addicted to lots of TV shows & go to the movie theatre alone as well but I need to balance that out)

I don't blame you for tailoring it a bit! I wouldn't want to do that run on vacation either.
:goodvibes 58 minutes I can handle as I'll need to balance out all the yummy food I plan on eating. Palo & Remy here I come!

Funny how alcohol will do that. :rotfl2:

;) Its my one vice. I'll take the pace killing for it on occasion. Sober Game Night wouldn't be nearly as fun with the Cards Against Humanity or Jenga.

I didn't know you lived in Naples! We used to go there all the time when we lived in Ft Lauderdale. We would drive up to Barefoot Beach for picnics on the weekend.

I also used to do dog rescue and would occasionally drive dogs from the Miami shelter over to rescues that way.

Love your compromise...running to the gym! Great idea. I love nice neighborhoods to run in! You are doing great with your training!

Sounds like you had a good week! :goodvibes But  to that humidity!!

Drinking more than one cocktail the night before slows me down too...oops. :teeth:

I moved to Naples in December 2012 & it was one of the best decisions we've made once we got settled :wizard: I was lucky enough to get an engineering job down here (which are far and few between as there isn't a ton of manufacturing down here) & my husband was able to transfer with his company.

How long ago did you live down here?

In 1.5 years, I still haven't made it to Barefoot Beach. I usually go to Wiggins Pass or Vanderbilt Beach. Great work with the rescues as I know sadly a lot of dogs seem to get dumped in the Everglades.

At least the gym is only 1.7 miles away from my house so reasonable enough distance with only 1 major intersection to cross.

Some days it feels like I'm doing great & then I have days like today where I'm thinking what did I sign up for. Although, I think its just a reflection on my mood.

Sounds like you had a good week! :goodvibes But  to that humidity!!

Yeah, its time for humidity to be high and it will last until November, when hurricane season ends.

At least its fun the day before to deal with the suffering on time the next day.

We left about 6 years ago. Got out before the market tanked. You NEED to go to barefoot beach. There's a time of year when the gopher Tortoises all go nuts and start running around and they are everywhere in the park. you have to keep stopping and move them off the road.

I still get emails from The Dock restaurant down there. Have you driven up to the outlets? That was another place I liked to stop. They had a QVC outlet with some awesome stuff!

You got lucky getting out before the market tanked! Real Estate around here has finally started going full swing around the same time we were buying last spring. I'm glad we bought when we did as the market would be even harder to find what worked for us if we had to look this year!

I'll have to look up about the Tortoises!

We've gone outlet shopping a few times. I try to stay away to save money because some of those stores would be dangerous to my bank account! We've been to the Dock a couple times, but Riverwalk @ Tin City is closer to us & we enjoy Swan River more for seafood. I guess its not a bad problem to have with having too many choices for dinner - I think there are enough places that I could eat out every night for almost 2 years & not repeat anywhere.

:cheer2::cheer2: bit of a jump, but you can do it!!!

We have been having a very wet season... and part of my neighborhood tends to flood..as in the entire street get covered ankle deep in water. I have been avoiding running in my neighborhood because of it. I hope you don't get flooding this year... it really stinks.

April Week 4 Running Update

Monday, April 21st
Rest day!

Tuesday, April 22nd
Today was the last day with the doctor visiting work for this set of treatments. I’m free to not visit him on Tuesdays until I hurt myself again. ;)

Today was W9D1 - the first 54 minute run in my schedule. I began my run right after I got home from work so 4:30PM in high heat & I ran outside. My husband joined me.

CL0C4Pk.png

As you can see, it didn’t really go well after mile 2. I lost pretty much all motivation at that point but I was far enough from home that I didn’t really have a choice but to finish the loop and go home. I guess that’s one good thing about running outside on a large loop - there is no choice but to finish My mind kept thinking about stuff I’m dealing with at work rather than keeping my mind on running.

Wednesday, April 23rd

I was feeling under the weather & took a nap from 4:30pm until 6pm followed by a hot bath. I also ended up going to bed shortly after 8pm.

Thursday, April 24th

I was still feeling off but I was supposed to be meeting someone at Sunset Yoga at Vanderbilt Beach. Its a free event that happens once a month during season & this would be my first time attending.

Well my friend didn’t show up but I was there so I went for it anyway.

SY14RhD.jpg

It made me realize I’m more flexible in some ways but not so flexible in others. My left ankle is definitely not as stable as my right but I can still do a backbend (I haven’t done one of those in 12 years!) It was a nice event but I would have had a better time if the people I thought were going to be there were there & if I didn’t have the pleasure of running into two people that have been causing me drama in my personal life as well. It made my mind not unburden itself but rather overflow with all the negatives going on. I haven't had that much self-loathing in a while.

Friday, April 25th
This is when I realized I was sick rather than just having allergies going on. I’ve felt like crap since Tuesday evening but its really caught up to me today. This run was ugly and I was completely winded after .75 miles but I still had 41 minutes left for the W9D2 workout and I ended up walking it and wishing I could just be home. At least I finished.

NsNiUSq.png

Saturday, April 26th

I still did not feel good this morning but I made it to P90X at my coworker’s house. We did the Cardio X video today. I was able to keep up with most of it until the last 10 minutes when I died off. I did nothing the rest of the day except lay in bed watching the dvr and playing on the computer hoping to overcome this gunk.

Sunday, April 27th

And I continue to be sick. I ended up going to the gym as I knew I could do my W9D3 workout at a constant pace as the treadmill would make me at a certain pace. Instead of my usual treadmill runs of having the running pace switch between 6.5-6.7 & 4.7 (45 seconds at the higher and 1:30 at the lower) and my ‘walking’ pace be 4.3 to 4.5, I had my ‘walking’ pace be 4.0 and my ‘running’ pace maintain at 4.5 with no variance. This might have been too much still as at 9 minutes in, I’m pouring sweat.

xvDQc3s.jpg

At least I finished. It wasn’t a pretty workout by any means. My husband ran 6.4 miles in the time it took me to do 4.11 which is awesome for him!

On Wednesday, I got a Striiv Play Pedometer so I could track how many steps I do on a daily basis plus I’m interested in seeing how much I walk while at Disney & I don’t want to kill my phone running an app all day.
Thursday - 7,983 steps
Friday - 16,152 steps
Saturday - 7,555 steps
Sunday as of 10:30AM - 10,361 steps

Glad it keeps charts for me so I’ll see if having it is going to force me to try to maintain my 10,000 step goal.

At the beginning of April I took my Waist, Hips and Thigh Measurements. I’m happy to say in the past month, I’ve lost 1.5” in my waist, 2.25” in my hips & 1.5” in my thighs! In the past month, I’ve also dropped 8.6 pounds according to myfitnesspal.

Good job on getting out there even when you don't feel great!

I honestly think that men have it easier when it comes to building up mileage for running. My hubby managed to go from non-runner to 6 miles MUCH faster than I ever did. And I was out there training way more than him!

That sunset yoga looks beautiful! I wish I had somewhere around me that had that..... looks so peaceful. Sorry that it didn't turn out that way for you-:(

Hope you feel better this week & you are on the way to recovery!

I'm glad I at least did something.

I agree that men have it way easier. He has been regularly working out about 1.5 years longer than me as well & he's a lot more fit in general & takes all those pre workouts and post workouts and proteins. :lmao: We are planning on doing a 10K on Memorial Day & I can already tell that he's going to kill my time by like 30 minutes.

It was beautiful - I just wish I could have let it go. That mind sometimes just kills you.

I thought I was feeling better until today's run. It went slowly & I ended up just stopping about 10 minutes early and walking more than I running. The heat at 4:30PM was killer today & I have a lovely sunburn now.

Rest day!

Tuesday, April 22nd
Today was the last day with the doctor visiting work for this set of treatments. I’m free to not visit him on Tuesdays until I hurt myself again. ;)

Sounds like good news! :thumbsup2

Today was W9D1 - the first 54 minute run in my schedule. I began my run right after I got home from work so 4:30PM in high heat & I ran outside. My husband joined me.

We all have bad runs from time to time... I personally love running outside, but I also feel as though it really forces us to buck up and get the job done even when we don't want to. You said it well after all... there is no choice but to finish. :goodvibes

Wednesday, April 23rd

I was feeling under the weather & took a nap from 4:30pm until 6pm followed by a hot bath. I also ended up going to bed shortly after 8pm.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well.

Thursday, April 24th

I was still feeling off but I was supposed to be meeting someone at Sunset Yoga at Vanderbilt Beach. Its a free event that happens once a month during season & this would be my first time attending.

Well my friend didn’t show up but I was there so I went for it anyway.

Looks beautiful... too bad you were not feeling great and had to do it alone!

I hate when I let others have so much control over me. Sounds like you were battling that a bit. (or more than a bit) No self loathing!:hug:

Friday, April 25th
This is when I realized I was sick rather than just having allergies going on. I’ve felt like crap since Tuesday evening but its really caught up to me today. This run was ugly and I was completely winded after .75 miles but I still had 41 minutes left for the W9D2 workout and I ended up walking it and wishing I could just be home. At least I finished.

Good for you for finishing...but I do hope you take care of yourself. Such a balance between pushing through and making things worse.

Sounding more and more like you need a full day of just laying in bed watching the dvr!

:sad2:

At least I finished. It wasn’t a pretty workout by any means. My husband ran 6.4 miles in the time it took me to do 4.11 which is awesome for him!

MEN! I love that my own dh can push ahead in his ability..but some how it doesnt seem fair it comes so easily.

Way to go!!! :yay::yay:

I just think it was overall a bad week in general. I like running outside too as it shows me my actual pace rather than running on a treadmill which makes it really easy to maintain a pace rather than having a natural variance. But yeah, there is no choice but to finish as I have to get home somehow.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well.
Thanks! It seems I may have transferred it to my husband this week :worried: but I guess its all fair. At least it only lasted about a week.

Looks beautiful... too bad you were not feeling great and had to do it alone!

It really was! I love sunsets in Naples on the beach. Always so peaceful. The person I was supposed to be meeting ended up having to stay late at work but things happen.

I hate letting them have it too! The next day I stopped loathing myself so much so I guess thats a positive. Maybe I just let it all out that night.

Good for you for finishing...but I do hope you take care of yourself. Such a balance between pushing through and making things worse.
There is a balance & I think I went in the wrong direction a bit but I did have 2 rest days this week to make up for it (well 1 official rest day, 1 pseudo rest day if you ask my pedometer)

Sounding more and more like you need a full day of just laying in bed watching the dvr!
That is what I accomplished after the P90X! I think I had the DVR cleared 100% of my stuff for the first time in forever between how much I watched on Saturday & Sunday.

Exactly!

Way to go!!! :yay::yay:
Let's just hope I didn't gain it all back this weekend :goodvibes
