I actually wonder what possessed Katie to get involved with him.

I just watched Batman Begins this weekend and I think she is still under the influence of the nasty terror inducing gas that they used in that movie.

I remember reading somewhere that said she idolized TC when she was a kid and had his posters up in her room. Maybe her interest was kind of a throwback to that-she worshiped him when she was a kid and when he showed interest in her it took her back to those feelings. Pretty heady stuff-a movie star you adored shows interest in you and he shows interest in you.

I had read that in an article after they started going together, but the stuff from before they started going together said that her idol was
another Tom, Tom Hanks. No mention of Tom Cruise until after their romance.

Although none of us know what's really going on with them, I do hope her parents are able to talk some sense into her... she truly seems brainwashed.

What "nasty bug" bit you!! I am referring to the cult of Scientology. Any religion that requires a "minder" to accompany inductees sounds very cultish to me.

Well just a note from the "Toledo desk" here....They must have either flown Katie's family out to see them in California, or they did the most secret trip to Toledo I have ever seen. The local TV stations here are so desperate for interesting news that they would be all over it if someone said TC was in town.
If they broke up, I wonder how the religion issue would affect the baby...I've read that Nicole had some reservations about bringing the 2 kids up in the scientology faith, and that was a part of their problem. The Holmes family is, as someone said already, DEVOUT catholic. If Katie gave up scientology and went back to her roots, that would be a custody issue they would have to hammer out. The closest scientology center to here is in Detroit, I believe.
Another thing about the pre-nup....notice that Katie has had to give up all of her work since the moment she met Tom--she's been his arm candy since Day #1---no movies in the can or in progress, and of course now she is pregnant. The public has a very short memory. If he takes her out of circulation movie-wise for a few years, her career may be dead in the water...and that may be one thing daddy is worried about.

I still think it is one horrible publicity stunt gone wrong. It wouldn't be the first coupling for publicity. It's been done for years. Scarlett Johanson pretty much came out and said he tried to recruit her under the guise of a MI:3 meeting. How did he say he met Katie? A meeting to consider her for MI:3. The whole thing reeks of setup.

All the major gossip people said that their won't be a TomKat wedding. I think their people are just trying to figure out how to get the both of them out of this mess.

I think they will have to wed and stay together a while before divorcing. I can't believe that they are bringing a baby into the mix. I'm still shocked that their really is a baby. I was expecting an early pregnancy leak and then devistating miscarriage.

Has it occurred to anyone that if Katie is being sucked into a cult that Tom was also sucked into his cult at one time? Maybe that's the reason for his odd behavior! Maybe he needs rescuing too!

Actually, I think that these aren't the Moonies and it's really no one's business but Tom and Katie's. The parents can be concerned but they really have no right to interfere.

I think that concerned family members should interfere with cults. We were a part of a Christian cult for several years. It looked extreme, but WAS a cult. I am so thankful that we were able to separate ourselves from it. I will never trust another group of people again. We are still occasionally harassed by members. When someone has had their thoughts manipulated, it is sometimes only through the help of others not involved that they can escape.

Just becuase there isn't goofy hair or odd clothing, doesn't mean it isn't a cult.

IMO, this split was totally predictable. It seems to be the Hollywood strategy whenever a new movie is coming out: the star(s) enter a new high-profile romance to help with generating publicity.

War of the Worlds and Batman Begins fit for TomKat. I can't remember the movie, but Ben A and Jennifer L also had a hot fling when their movie came out. When the movie fades away, so does the romance.

If we keep our eyes open this year, we'll probably see the pattern repeated more than once. My money is on Lindsey Lohan and her costar in the John Lennon movie they're about to start shooting.

I'd be happy to be wrong. Meanwhile, I hope Katie and her baby make a happy, healthy getaway from Tom.

I got sucked into the worst movie ever one crappy saturday afternoon on HBO - "First Daughter"...yeah...stellar acting

You're so right. She could make more money being married to TC than actually working. I've seen one movie of hers that I actually really liked--Go--and it could have been anyone in her role. Yeah she's cute, but a stellar actress with a big future she's not.

Do I really care what they do, no but I do find it interesting. In college I worked for a major magazine, my first real job after college was in PR and we delt with some 'celebrities.' After DHs radio career took off and we were constantly on the move, I was often given PT promotions or marketing jobs in the radio business so I've delt with a lot of local 'celebrities.'

Now I'm a SAHM with a child in school 5 mornings a week so it is no sweat off my back to be interested in celebrity culture. I think I should have been a socialogist. Celebrities facinate me just like the DisBoards do. I hang around here because I'm facinated by what goes on.

Do Tom and Katie affect me one way or another no, but while I'm bored waiting for noon I'll read!

Separating the girl from her family is a rather cultish thing to do. Tom Cruise is just exhibiting the classic signs of a control freak. Does anyone recall the day after he filed for divorce from Nicole Kidman that he kept the kids from leaving the country.

As far as Scientology's power, I've heard radio talk show hosts and political pundits say they're too afraid to take on Scientology.

how did he get her pregnant! He wasn't able to do it with 2 previous wives.........Mimi Rogers went on to have children, Nicole supposedly miscarried but there were also rumors that the reason for the split was that she had had an affair. It just seems odd that all of a sudden he meets Katie and boom bang baa she is pregnant!
If they do split she is going to have a lot to deal with between Tom and his church! And please help her if she ends up having post partum depression. I still find it odd that she got pregnant so quick, I know if I were in her position I would have at least waited a few years and rode it out awhile while my career was still "hot".
