No Ticker Needed, I Live 10 Mins From WDW!! (9/9/12)

HAPPY BIRTHDAYS AREN'T ALWAYS HAPPY SOMETIMES!!!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far! I started work yesterday and things are going well but it's pretty crazy. My classroom is a disaster and everything is very overwhelming right now with not having ever done Montessori before but I have faith that it will all turn out fine with lots of sleep and headache medicine lol.

SUNDAY JUNE 19, 2011

We woke up bright and early on June 19th! It was my mom's birthday AND Father's Day!!!

Bro decided to sleep at his apt as he wasn't feeling well still and I woke up with a scratchy throat :(

The plan was to leave at 10am, drive 2 hours, and arrive at Disney's Vero Beach Resort. Bro and mom fought back and forth over him driving alone or driving with us. I was anxious to leave and voiced that this was all of our vacations and Bro should want to leave at 10am as well.

Needless to say, we left at 10:30 without Bro who stayed at his apt to clean/laundry. Mom was NOT HAPPY. Dad was NOT HAPPY. I sat in the car for 2 hours silent and listened to my Ipod as I was blamed for not waiting until 3 to leave for the beach. :rolleyes1

We ended up taking the long way to Vero but ended up getting there around 12:30pm. We went to McD's after checking in and found our room wouldn't be ready until maybe 4pm. After lunch, we checked out the resort:

The gift shop was pretty awesome! They were discounting their old resort merchandise which upset me but by the end of our stay they had new resort merchandise which I loved!

We decided that we still had some time until our room would be ready so Mom and I headed for the pool and dad sat in a rocking chair outside the lobby.

212.jpg

213.jpg

The resort is gated everywhere! You have to have a room key to access the pool. You have to use the key to get down to the beach and off of the beach. The security is pretty crazy but it's good!

They also had the same mugs from WDW so it was nice to just pull that baby out and start using it right away!

I noticed the hair braiding lady right away and read reports to get an appt with her to get my hair braided. She said to come back in the morning.

Mom and I went to the towel stand and showed our keys to get loaner towels until our room is ready. You only get 4 towels per room so we ended up going to Walmart and buying cheap ones to use since one towel at the pool/beach is clearly not enough..even with exchanging for a clean one!

As mom and I sat, the hair braiding lady came over and said her appt canceled and if I wanted to get my hair done right away. I said YES PLEASE!!!!! I got to pick beads and hair tie colors. All in all it was $50 including a $10 tip and I got these too!

228.jpg

I got my hair braided, a bandanna, little change purse, and a hair clip. She made my hair fancy after braiding it! It was great to have the braids and I kept them in for about 2 weeks!

By the time my hair was done, we got a text saying our room was ready. We had gotten the Ocean View Room with my friend's CM Discount so we were ready to see if it was worth the extra money...

WHAT DO YOU THINK??!!!!

Bro arrived just in time for us to check out the room!!

DID WE LOVE THE ROOM OR WISH WE HAD GOTTEN THE CHEAPER STUDIO?!

STAY TUNED!!!!!

Great updates! I'm still torn about the Vero beach resort...I guess since it's so close I should at least give it a try some time.

School/work will get easier! That beginning of the school year plus new job stress is horrible (I speak from experience) but I'm sure you'll get your routine down soon and in a few weeks it'll feel like you've been doing it forever!

I am sorry your ride to Vero wasn't that great. Love the hair! Can you wash it like normal or can you only wash once every few days?

You love to keep us hanging!

I have been teaching for12years and the beginning is always overwhelming each and every year. Everything will get done.

:worship:Cannot wait for more...

Hey Megan! I think I followed your CP adventures whilst you were on the programs, and I think I also saw your when you were working in AK back in 2008! I'm so glad you've started up a year long report, I'm excited to read more!! :) I don't really know anything about Vero so I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures and reading your views!!

Sorry your morning wasn't that great on your way to Vero Beach. I'm guessing the corn rows with accessories made up for it along with the fact that you have an ocean view from your room :thumbsup2

Glad to see your time at Montessori is going well, though I'm sure you'll adjust to the craziness soon enough :teeth:

Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

Megan - Congrats on the job! Google may be your best friend for a while to help you get a handle on your class and new role. (Heck, it is my best friend after 15 years of teaching!)

Looking forward to hearing about the room at Vero!

I'll be updating again soon. We went into Vero blind and ended up really liking it but only for a few days as there isn't much in the area!

Thanks! I'm looking forward to the challenge! We also have a child with special needs so I'm looking forward to helping him and seeing how he grows in his education!

You really should try it! You were supposed to try it before me haha.

Thanks, I loved it! You wash it like normal. The first day I didn't wash it but she said to use shampoo only, no hair spray, and suntan lotion (not the spray kind). I probably could have kept it in longer but 2 weeks is pretty good!

You love to keep us hanging!

Thanks for the advice :)

great report can't wait to see you room at Vero

Thanks!!!! It was pretty :)

OCEAN FRONT BABY!!!!

Happy Friday!!

I'm glad the week is over and I got to leave school early today since we got all of our cleaning/organizing done :) I was able to go to the DMV and get my license plate, title, and registration so I'm an official FL resident now!!!

SUNDAY JUNE 19, 2011

When we left off, we got our text saying the room was ready. We had 4 reservations in total booked for the resort with rack rate rooms and CM rooms. A few weeks before an Ocean Front Inn Room opened up so I jumped on it!

Our room was on the 2nd floor which was a short elevator ride from the lobby! The *FREE* LAUNDRY was on the 4th floor which was great as well!!

Now for the view...

218.jpg

219.jpg

Was the ocean view worth it?! YES!!!!! Our room was super close to the elevators, lobby, gift shop, etc.

After we checked out the room, we took the elevator to the garage and got all of our bags out of the car. They don't really have bell hops there but you can use one of the many luggage racks from the garage and bring the bags to your room yourself. As we unpacked, mom and dad got their "birthday cake/father's day cake"

227.jpg

The first night, we had reservations at the resort's Shutters restaurant but we sat at our table for 20 mins without being served so after a chat with a manager and a zero guest recovery, we ended up leaving and going to a local restaurant. All in all, we ended up eating at Mr. Manatees, Squid Lips, and Mulligans. We loved all 3 of them and thanks to Disboards, they were great suggestions.

MONDAY JUNE 20 AND TUESDAY JUNE 21, 2011

Both Monday and Tuesday we paid to have the umbrella and chairs for the beach. Those went super quickly! On Monday, I had fallen ill like my brother a few days before. Dad went to Walgreens to get me some medicine and I spent a good portion of the day either sleeping at the pool or in the room. I hated to waste my vacation but I was not up to the beach :(

By Monday late afternoon, I was feeling better and ventured into the ocean which typically I don't enjoy but loved it! We haven't been on a beach vacation since 1998 so this was a pretty big deal!!!!

On Tuesday I was feeling a tad better but still not good. It was decided that I had a dreaded sinus infection AGAIN. It turns out the medicine I was on 2 weeks prior to that had not worked and it was back. Thankfully when we got back to OH, I went to the Dr. and got meds that finally worked even though it put a damper on my vacation.

Each night we had to shut the drapes in our room by 9pm because of the Sea Turtles. We saw nests on the beach but no turtles. We watched the pool movie: Wall-E and they kept the snack bar open which was nice!!

Walks on the beach at night were super dark since there isn't much to do in the area. We didn't try the mini golf but I hear people enjoy it.

All in all we had a great trip but we all decided that only a few days there was enough given that there isn't much to do in the immediate area but it's great to get away and have quiet time away from WDW.

We loved the beach but I was ready for our next adventure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CLUB LEVEL..THAT'S HOW WE ROLL!!!!

I do love Vero Beach. Just a really great place to relax and decompress.

I'm so sorry about your experience at Shutters. All of the times we've been to Vero we've never had any problems with the service in any of the restaurants. That's really disappointing.

Boo to sinus infections and being sick on vacation. :(

I just found your trip report and I'm loving it! I've often wondered how it would be to live so close to Mickey. Congrats on your new job and apartment.

Vero Beach looks awesome! I'd love to go there some day. That cake/rice krispy looks yummy. :thumbsup2

Bummer you didn't get to see any turtles. :guilty:

Thanks! It was a great little vacation! My roommate and I were trying to plan to go there for a night over Labor Day but she's working all weekend and so are all of our friends so it looks like I'll be alone haha. I'll have to find some teachers that are off!

:welcome: Thanks!! I'll be posting pics of the adventure of the move to FL after the June TR which will be finished very soon! You'll get to see pics of the drive, my apt, etc.

It is sooo nice there! The rice crispy is from the confectionary on main street

I love the Vero Beach pics!

Thanks! I could have sworn I took way more than that but I guess not. I guess I kind of was a let down since most have never been but would like to see pics. I'll have to go back and check to see if I missed any.

CLUB LEVEL..THAT'S HOW WE ROLL!!!!

Hi Dis Friends!!

I hope everyone had a good weekend. The buzz today has been on the new hurricane that is to hit this weekend. Our rain chances are already set for 70% on Thurs, Fri, and maybe Saturday. Why on a weekend really?!

I spent the weekend hanging out with Erin and her DD 3 Olivia (Livy) from The Dis! We had such a good time going to MK yesterday and DHS today. After DHS today, I did Livy's hair like Fairytale from BBB, she was soooo happy!!!!! Yesterday, part of the monorail track was struck by lightning and everything was shut down. It was pretty crazy trying to leave MK at the end of the night!!! I'm not sure if it's back up and running yet or not?!
I'm rounding out my WDW weekend by watching POTC (1) and eating the heavenly Butterfinger Cupcake from DHS!

I've decided to add 2 tickers to my siggie. My parents are coming in Sept/Oct for F&W + MNSSHP. They are also debating about coming in Dec for a weekend (assuming my bro can't get off work to get home before Xmas) so that is what the 2nd ticker is for! I'll be giving details after I finish this report and report on the move here!

It still is weird for me to come back to an apt at the end of the day at a park and NOT be on a DDP!! I'll get over it eventually :rotfl:

JUNE 22, 2011

It was our last full day/night in FL! We got up bright and early at Vero Beach. We packed up, did some shopping at the gift shop (I got a Tshirt), and prepared to head back to WDW and check into paradise.

The last night was a gift to my mom and dad for their 30th anniversary. They had it narrowed down to: GF (never stayed there), Poly (stayed once), CR (mom and dad stayed on their Disneymoon in 1981), and YC (stayed once).

Since Bro drove his own car, the rest of us in the rental car, mom decided to ride with bro and I rode with dad. After we had loaded the bags, I then gave mom and dad the secret envelope of where they would be staying..

243.jpg

They were psyched that they were staying at THE POLY!!!!!!!!!!!

BUT...

I told them to keep reading the letter from CL and they ended up reading about the CLUB LEVEL and really got excited lol. They got so excited that they immediately told me to cancel the ressie that we had at Ohana that night and rebook for a breakfast at Kona for the next day.

So off we went to The Poly!!!

When we arrived, we parked out front, unloaded the cars with the bell hops and were greeted by a CM who walked us to Hawaii (No golf cart to transport us?!) Oh well!!

We got in the building and checked in. Our room was ready which was soooo nice even though the bell hops told us it wasn't ready. We got all of our info, packet, and keys and off we went! We were not upgraded but it didn't matter!

After we set our bags down, mom and dad walked with Bro to Capt' Cooks so he could eat before working at 3. I stayed in the room and waited for the bags and watched Stacy (who we did not have at Vero lol). As I waited a CM and maintence worker came in without knocking and apologized staying that they thought the room was not ready and hung some freshly washed curtains. I almost said something to the lounge CMs as I felt that was odd but I stayed to "supervise" and wait on the luggage. After the luggage arrived, I began to unpack my overnight bag and we all headed to the lounge for the afternoon snacks!!!!!!!!

Your room at Vero Beach was very nice. I love the all-important picture of the Disney shampoos and other toiletries. I'm sorry to hear about your experience at Shutter's good thing you knew about the more local places :thumbsup2 And sorry that you were sick for most of the time there, but I think that was the best time being away from Disney :teeth:

YAY! The Poly WOOT! Those rooms look gorgeous as always and the view is great. I love the little swan towels they made for your parents anniversary (:thumbsup2 to Mousekeeping). And that's so nice you booked your parents for Club Level! I'm sure they enjoyed that (:

The whole CM and maintenance guy coming in was a bit strange... I would guess there was some miscommunication, but it sounded like a little after you checked in... real sketchy... At least you had Stacy on while this was happening :goodvibes

I heard about the hurricane coming towards Florida. Someone here on the boards I know is going to be down there when it comes. I hope all of you stay safe and maybe it will change it's course unexpectedly :confused3 Always hope for the best :D And that's awesome you got to go have fun at MK and DHS. And a big thumbs-up to your POTC viewing :)

Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

Irene! :scared1: I've been through a few tropical storms and hurricanes in my lifetime as a Floridian....they are not fun! I'm grateful it seems to be moving further east and won't be a direct hit for Florida. At this point anyway. Crossing my fingers and toes!

Love the poly! My first deluxe and club level experience was the poly, way back in 2005 I think it was. It spoiled us forever...hope you guys had a good experience too!

Fun meeting with DISers! I've yet to actually meet one...maybe we can meet up for a bit during my September trip?
