No Target Stores--is Redcard Still Worth It?

Nearest Target store to us is 100 miles away. We shop at Target once or twice a year, so I have a few questions.

I'm trying to determine if it's still a good idea to get a Redcard? Can I buy Disney gift cards online using the 5% Redcard discount?

I know a lot of people are hoping Target does the Christmas promotion again but is that offer only good in stores?

Finally, we have a Priority Club Visa and currently we have about 80,000 points. We generally use these for free hotel nights (each night costing 20,000-30,000 points). But we can also buy gift cards. A $25 Target gift card is 11,000 points. (No Disney GC offered). I'm trying to decide if this is a good use of points, but it seems using them for hotel stays gets us more bang for the buck.

You cannot get Disney gift cards online through Target, so unless you are willing to drive the 100 miles, you can't use the Red card or $10 promotion to get cards. The 5% does work on other things from Target online, but since the gift cards aren't available, it doesn't help you.

The 11000/$25 Target gift card would let you buy Disney GC with the Target ones, at the store. If you have 80,000 points, you could get 7 Target gift cards and exchange them for $175 in Disney. How much would it cost you for that 30,000 point hotel room? If it is more than $75-$85 dollars, it's probably better to use the points for hotel rooms.

Disney GCs ARE available online sometimes. They are showing as available this morning. Go to the Target website, then gift cards, then specialty gift cards. You have to keep checking as they seem to go back and forth. They only have them in $50 cards.

It does not cost anything to get a Red Card, so I would get it anyway and use it when you go to the Target store once or twice a year.

It doesn't have to be just a disney gift card. Friends of mine told us they had a visa gift card and were able to use it onboard.

Thanks for the information. Sounds like it isn't worth it for us to get a Redcard. Even if we bought Disney cards when we were there they might not have a lot in stock--the town we visit only has one Target. The gas to get there negates any savings, unless we are already in town (usually Christmas shopping).

Regarding hotels, 25,000 points generally gets us a $100-125 room.

oops, looks like I was posting at the same time as other replies--more to think about now! haha :rotfl:

Wait, are you guys saying that GIFT CARDS are 5% off too with the Target Red Card? Is that the debit or credit card? (I have been toying w/ the idea of the debit card. I live 7/10 of a mile from Target.)

Just Disney gift cards are 5% with either the debit or credit card. They are classified differently as other gift cards (as entertainment) thus they are eligible for the discount.

All gift cards (except the Target and Visa gift cards) are actually called entertainment cards at Target. Look for a big end cap in the movie/cd/book area. All of those will count for the 5% discount

You can only buy 10 Disney Gift cards online at a time. So you'd need to spread out your purchases.

Sayhello

Also... the Red Card gives you free shipping (no minimum purchase) from Target, along with the 5% off.

Is there a limit to how much money can be on a single gift card? And does anyone know if the extra discount for opening a Target account can be applied to a gift card?

Gift cards are preloaded $25 and $50 in store, and $50 online. There is no additional discount for opening an account.

Thanks Keira.

Possibly a dumb question...but doesn't Target in-store charge sales tax on the gift cards, thus negating the 5% off?
