o.k. I have decided I would love to lose about 30 pounds before our family trip. Well everyone has told me if I cut out all soda that I would see a big difference. And seeing as how I am one of those people who always has a soda in her hand (big pepsi freak) I thought o.k. that makes sense. So I had my last soda 2 weeks ago today and all chocolate. But nobody bothered to tell me the killer headaches that go with it! First few days thought I was going to die. Well I am not craving the soda now but I am really getting sick of just water. And I cannot find this crystal light everyone talks about. I been to our store walmart kmart and target here. Walmart said they do carry it but they are out. Has anyone tried and is it good? Also any good tips on dieting would be appreciated. I tell you it is so darn easy to put off but man is it hard to get off since my last son 7 years ago. And it does not help I work in a convienent store midnights. Thank goodness for all these boards to keep me busy and thank you all for listening to me whine :charac2:

Try flavored seltzer. My favorites are raspberry/lime and vanilla Poland Spring. Zero calories, zero caffeine but more taste than plain water. Good luck with the diet. I lost all my baby weight (after baby # 3) on the Zone Diet

Head on over to the WISH board. Lots and lots of helpful, friendly people.

Good going with the soda. I am hooked on diet soda. I try to tell myself to just limit it to weekends, but sometimes it's hard.

I'm doing the same thing! I'm a Mountain Dew addict, but I'm trying to lose the weight from baby #5 and I know it'll happen faster if I cut out the soda, but I wasn't brave enough to go cold turkey, I still need my morning can (I'm not a coffee drinker) so I started out limiting myself to two cans a day, but usually after the first one I end up skipping the second one. I still have the headaches, but they aren't as bad. I've been sticking to ice water, but maybe you could drink iced tea instead? I'm not sure if there are any weight loss benefits to that, though. I've tried Crystal Light, but to me it tasted bland, I had to add sugar to it. My Walmart has the Crystal Light with the Kool-aid.

I've been lurking on the WISHES board for a couple days, but I haven't really gotten involved yet. From what I've read it looks like a really supportive group, you should check it out.

Ok. Can't sleep again, so here I am.

I really like Crystal Light (though I wish it was made with Splenda), and I don't think it is supposed to taste bland. I'm going to ask a stupid question.........I can't remember.........does the little package make 2 quarts or a gallon? I think it is 2 quarts. Did you make it for a gallon instead?? Maybe that's what was wrong, I don't know.

And you're right about the WISH board. And stop your lurking.......come and join us! :teeth:

Technically I guess I should start lurking too! I am always on these boards, but should head over to the WISH ones. I know that I'm not "supposed to be dieting" now, but any little bit of advice to save a few calories here and there, and eat healtier couldn't hurt! :Pinkbounc

Last year my Dh gave up drinking soft drinks and dropped 20lbs! He rarely has one now and basicly only drinks iced tea with Splenda (at home) or Sweet and Low (b/c most places don't have Splenda packs yet). I'm so proud of him b/c he had a major Dr Pepper addiction...you would never see him without a 20oz bottle before this. His work requires him to ride in a pickup all day so he knows all the convience stores with good tea around here...lol!

Good luck! Brenda :D

I have a rule that I drink nothing with calories. It is the ONE dieting rule that is not too dark for me. I used to hate diet drinks, but have come to enjoy them fine. Try different brands. Another life saver is splenda. It taste so much like suger! Use it to make tea, cool-aid, lemon-aid etc. When eating out I order unsweetened tea and carry my own packs of spenda to add. I also get water with lemon (free) and add spenda. REally refreshing!
I CAN NOT help with Chocolate! I am so addicted! They have suger free everything now, but fat and calories are just about as high. Oh well, I am often seen with a diet coke and a milkyway bar!!

Good luck.

Yeah, I know it all too well. I was a Coca-Cola addict, and I gave it up cold turkey as I too wanted to lose weight, but for the way-too-much-sugar reason also. The first few weeks of withdrawal were killer.

About two weeks after, I picked up a cold Diet 7-Up. . . I had always heard and found to be true that one could not stand the taste of diet soda when drinking regular. That was very true for me. But after abstaining for two weeks, (I supposed my body was purged at that point), the diet 7-Up tasted great!

I began looking around for Spenda diet soda, and found DietRite. It was great, and their flavors are Cola, Tangerine, Raspberry, White Grape, and now Black Cherry. Now I don't feel bad at all drinking this soda. Also, if your area has it, FireFighter's Brand soda also has Spenda. It's been two years now and I can't stand the taste of regular soda. . . way too sweet!

Hang in there, and good for you, and you will be glad you toughed it out.

By the way, I lost 25 lbs. in two months between drinking diet soda and regular exercise.

South Beach diet is very easy to follow, give it a shot.

I too only drink soda if its diet. Its most likely the lack of caffine that is giving you the headaches. Try some flavored seltzer water or sqeeze some lemon in your water or an orange to give it some flavor!!

Good luck

The headaches are from caffeine withdrawal. If it is really bad you can use NoDoz instead while you taper off, but be aware that one NoDoz has 200 mg of caffeine, about the same as *five* 12 oz. cans of Pepsi. Splitting the pills is advisable.

This chart shows the caffeine content of most popular drinks: http://wilstar.com/caffeine.htm

One thing to note about headaches: You can also get headaches from NutraSweet, which is the sweetener in most of the diet soft drink brands; Diet Rite and RC being the most common exceptions; those have Splenda. This is an issue for lots of people who try to switch from regular soft drinks to diet versions; I can't tolerate NutraSweet myself.

oK FIRST I HAVE TO REPLY TO THE DIET RITE SODA oops ..I cant handle nutra sweet ..I love the diet rite b/c no sodium in it also...I drink plain cold water with lemon juice in it ..Gives it a different taste and it also helps with water retention...I also take a pepermint tea bag and drink it plain with water no sugar... And when i get really thirsty for a soda i buy them at walmart they are flavored water strawberry kiwi and such...any questions feel free to pm me .... :teleport:

Keep in mind that diet soda may not have calories, but it does have other problems -- some dealing with health in general, some dealing with dieting. Consider:

The sweetness in the diet soda can interfere with your "fullness" feeling, and it can make it harder to avoid over-eating.
Most diet sodas still have caffeine -- stopping caffeine is probably why you had the headaches.
Aspertame and nutrasweet have possible cancer links and are pretty much no-nos for kids; that's why I don't understand the cereal companies coming out with these new artificially-sweetened kids' cereals.

Personally, I find that once I have ONE soda, I want more, more, more. If I start out drinking water, I don't miss sodas. I try to limit sodas (diet or regular) to two per week.

wow now its almost 3 weeks no soda. Headaches gone and feeling much better. I am trying to stay away from anything with caffeine because I was told it was the caffeine that made me crave more sugar and I believe thier right. Since stopping all caffeine I also haven't had any chocolate and not craving it either. And for me thats a miracle. Were talking atleast a snickers a day here before I am sorry to say along with my ice cold pepsi! Haven't weighed myself yet to see the actual numbers but I know i am down 1 pant size already! Yippee. Thanks for listening your all great. Robyn

Crystal light= VERY GOOD... They have it at Costco i belive...

Also diet is good... Even try to add a bit of lemon or lime juice to your water.

Check for Crystal Light in the powdered drink section, with the lemonade and teas and all that.

You could try Fruit 2 O. My 18 yr old DS who is away at a fairly rural college, hates the taste of the water at school, just raves about Fruit 2 O. It's basically water with fruit flavor, not sweeteners at all. It's not cheap, but neither is soda. Costco sells it in a variety pack. I did the no soda thing about 4 years ago and lost 7 pounds in a month, that was it. I hardly ever have soda now, but I do drink a glass of wine every day and that adds calories too. I can't stand nutrasweet, not to mention the fact they still dont' know if it causes problems years down the road. Dr.'s still tell pregnant women not to use it. And I hate Diet Rite. Splenda is good, but it's only in Diet Rite and Pepsi Edge (half the sugar, cut with Splenda and something like 70 calories) and I like it. Since Splenda is the "left" hand version of sugar, it is entirely natural, but your body doesn't absorb it.

Diet Big Red is also made with Splenda. I LOVE IT!!

It may be a regional drink though-- don't know if you guys have it where you are.
