No Soap in school bathrooms

This is nothing new for me.

I am in a school where there is no soap or towels for the bathroom for "security reasons".

Teachers have to purchase anti bac hand sanitizer or ask the kids to bring some.

It's a normal occurence throughout my school and others in the district.

I didn't read the whole thread, but I sent a huge bottle of Germ-X with my son for the classroom this year and they returned it. The teacher was very nice and thanked me, but she said they aren't allowed to have it in their school because it takes the wax off the floors if it drips!!! :scared1: :scared1:

DS12 said there is liquid soap in dispensers in the bathrooms at his schools.

My DD13 just told me they do have soap this year.

Phew! Came back to my computer (the crew was just getting ready to leave) and I remembered that I forgot to ask DGD about the soap issue at her school..

I am very happy to report that all of the bathrooms have soap!!! :thumbsup2 :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

I can't believe your kids USE the bathroom. My middle school aged son, and most of his friends, say they aren't allowed time to go to the bathroom. I don't think my 8th grade son has used a school bathroom in 4 years. I hear the same from high school kids. And we have a brand new school.

It's crazy.

WOW! My DS was bragging that they can go whenever they want... not to excess, of course, but they are told to come to the front of the room for the hall pass and as long as no one else is using it, they can just walk out to use the bathroom. He's in 7th grade and just started in our jr HS last month. It's not healthy for anyone to have to hold it in that long. What happens when they suddenly don't feel good? That's just crazy to not allow kids to use the bathroom.

Um...That's also a health issue. That can cause people to have bladder problems. The school has to allow kids to use the restroom when they need to. I would defintely take that up with the school and the board of health.

I'm sorry, so if they have to go to the bathroom they simply cannot? Whilst we are reluctant to let students out of class (1 hour long) we will if they are clearly in need of the bathroom. Plus our daily timetable looks like this:

10 minutes homeroom
60 minutes class
5 minute locker/bathroom break
60 minute class
20 minute break
60 minute class
5 minute locker/bathroom break
60 minute class
60 minute lunch
65 minute class

So theoretically no student should have to wait more than 70 minutes between bathroom breaks but hey - people forget! Plus sometimes you have to go sudden!

So, my DH and I went to our DS open house at his school last night. (This is a brand new school btw-built in 2008) My DH had to use the bathroom and when he came out he asked our son if all the bathrooms were like that. I said, "like what?" He informed me that there was not only no soap, but no soap dispensers either!! Our DS told us only the cafeteria bathroom had soap in it. I placed a call to the school this morning and am awaiting a return call after they speak with the CUSTODIAN. I imagine this will have to be escalated to the school board.

Until I see an solution, I am going to BJs and getting a large bottle of Purell for my DS classroom!

I googled this and found this problem is across the country. No wonder MRSA is breaking out in all the schools! Does anyone else see a major problem here??

I called the Superintendent Office on Friday and got a call from the Principal while I was unavailable. I returned her call again today and finally spoke with her. She told me that the soap dispensers are "on order". :sad2: Until they come in and are installed, each classroom has a soap dispenser in the room for the children to use. I'm glad I got this answer. I wouldn't have been happy with anything else. Thanks for all of the replies!

I work in a middle school--they have plenty of time during passing period. But, they'd rather visit with friends and waste class time doing pesky things like using the restroom.

When I taught high school, I heard the same thing. Problem is they DO have time--they just CHOOSE not to use it wisely.

Maybe this is TMI, especially for the dads and other males out there but how about this -- my DD goes to school the first day (and unfortunately it's "that time"). No garbage cans in the restrooms. They also don't have those little baskets on the wall in each stall. So I ask her what the girls are doing with the paper towels when they wash their hands. She tells me they're flushing them down the toilet, some of which are backing up. Needless to say, I spoke with the school secretary and got that situation rectified immediately. How can you NOT have garbage cans in the restrooms, specifically the girls' room, when you have kids in your school through 8th grade? How did someone not notice this? Ridiculous.

I've got to agree. I can't tell you how many times we've had parents come in and complain that their child says they don't have time to use the restroom. All you have to do is let them watch classes change, and they figure out real fast what the real problem is! :rotfl2:

(No disrespect to poster who mentioned this - I certainly don't know the situation at that school.)

Actually, five minutes to change classes really isn't enough sometimes.

I remember in high school that there were several times during the day I would not have time to use the restroom between classes. Why? Not from standing around talking. But because I would often have one class in one corner of the building on the second floor, then my next would be in the complete opposite corner on the first floor. Then I would have the very next class in the end up being back in the original corner I started with. I would not have the opportunity to stop in the restroom to even look in the mirror let alone do anything else because I would get to my classes just before the bell rang.
