No room request added?

Is it unusual to get an email from Member Services that your room request cannot be added to your reservation? Has this happened to anyone else?

Was it something like "savannah view for a value villa?". That wouldn't be allowed.

I just e-mailed that the request "near elevators" be added to all reservations with my name. I got a message back that it was done, requested, not guaranteed.

What was your request and what was the wording in their email.

"We appreciate your interest in a DISNEY VACATION CLUB Resort. *Since
Disney's Vero Beach Resort has a very limited number of 1 Bedroom Villas
that have an Ocean View, we are unable to add this request to your
reservation."

There must have been a recent change in policy since I was able to add this request to my reservation for the same size accommodation in February.

I know that no request is guaranteed, but I was surprised that I could not even ask for it.

Our VB request for a ocean view last December was noted and passed on to the resort.

This is just another example of poor management IMO. :sad2:

If they are going to make changes, notify the owners via email and post them on the website.

It may also be an example of a member or several members having a major meltdown at the front desk, demanding the ocean view room they "requested."

I actually witnessed such a meltdown at OKW several years ago when the specific unit someone requested wasn't available. The husband was screaming at the front desk CM, and the wife was crying hysterically. Saying, of course, they paid good money for their membership, and they should get what they want...on and on. The manager had them removed and said that DVC would be in contact with them regarding their membership.

There will be bad apples in every basket but we shouldn't have to read about policy changes on a chat forum.

Policies and rules, good or bad need to be communicated to CM's and Owners in a uniform and timely bases. Isn't that what we are paying Disney for with their management fees?

I wonder if it also became one of those requests that everyone wanted added to their reservation, like at AKV when they now won't take requests for the value villas.

But, I agree with Bill, that if there is going to be a change, they should let members now...personally, I have also witnessed people upset when ones request is not met and even heard others say they don't care if they take the room from another guest who had the same request since they were there first...

In all our DVC reservations (about 20), I've never had that happen. But funny story about what Bobbi mentioned about the value savannah view. When I called MS, as Bobbi indicated, they wouldn't take a request for a savannah view for a value studio. However, she could take a request for a specific room number. So I put as my request a room # of a value villa that I knew was savannah view "or room near it". And that's the way my request got noted. But before anyone else does it, at check in, I didn't get anywhere near it-I got a pool view. Oh, well.

I once paid "extra" points for a beach view inn room & received a partial view that I had to crane my neck around to see, but I didn't complain. I have made other requests on past reservations that I didn't receive but have nodded politely & taken the room assigned, with the exception of once when I was trying to accommodate an elderly family member who couldn't climb stairs. I don't throw fits at the front desk, & I don't demand that my requests be met. Sometimes I get lucky, sometimes I don't. I truly hope this change in policy isn't a result of others' unwillingness to play fair.

I am curious to know if request policies have changed at any of the other resorts. Water view at OKW, for example.

If they are going to make changes, notify the owners via email and post them on the website.

But they DID notify the owner when the request was made.

I could see your point if Member Services had pretended (?) that the request was listed, yet a resort CM later told the individual that such requests were no longer being accepted. Yes it's a change in policy but it seems like MS did a decent job of informing her of the change and the reasoning behind it.

I really think it's too much to expect that every operational change DVC makes will be communicated via email blast and posted to the website. Can you name any other business which issues blanket announcements of every change they make?

I don't think BCV still allows "EPCOT view" requests, at least there was a thread about that 2 or 3 years ago.

As far as OKW, there seem to be a lot of rooms that fit most requests like woods view, water view, golf view...so I think the odds are reasonably good that those requests would be met. The exception was Near Hospitality House and they made that into a specific booking category. Now, within that Near HH category, I think the odds are much less of getting a requested water, woods or golf view because they have a smaller pool of rooms to pick from, but as far as I know, they still allow those requests.

We may have had the same OVIR. If I stood on the patio chair, on my tippy toes, extended all the way to the right of the balcony, just above the palm tree, I saw the ocean, not the most relaxing position! An ocean view the size of a plug nickel but I didn't complain either but I know others might have!

Fax in or e-mail another request to MS, maybe someone else will treat it differently! If I don't make a request at the time of my res., I e-mail to MS after, and I've been fortunate thus far!

According to MS there has not been any changes in our ability to request a room view. There are fixed requests for the CM to choose from and there is a free form section. Some CM's don't like to use the free form section or they don't know about it. The problem seems to be a training issue.

I just hung up with MS and the CM that I spoke to insists that VB still has a ocean view request category.

As far as emails and website info, my position is that items such as room request categories or other useful info be made available to the members and that our information matches MS's. The email could direct us to the website page where the info is listed.

I tried again. Here's the reply from a different CM:

"Thank you for contacting DISNEY VACATION CLUB®.

DISNEY'S VERO BEACH Resort does not accept any ocean view requests. *We
are unable to add this request to your reservation."

Sooooo, Bill.....could you call them back & tell them that carolinadj is a nice person who just wants to TRY to get an ocean-view room so she can be a show-off in front of the guests (first-time visitors & potential buyers!) that she's bringing?:rotfl: I think they will listen to you!:worship:

Of course, I'm kidding, but gee, I don't know where to turn next. Keep trying different CMs until I find one that will add it? Give up & just cross my fingers at check-in?

Thank you, Bill, for calling. I emailed a third time to ask if there had been a policy change but haven't received a response.

Okay, just checked my email again & this is the response I received to my question about whether or not there has been a policy change:

"Thank you for contacting DISNEY VACATION CLUB®.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Unfortunately at this time we are no longer able to request for either
ocean or water views on a reservation. *Due to the ever-changing view at
the resort (landscaping / tree growth, hurricanes, etc) and the number
of Members requesting vs. the actual number of villas that have a true
view of the ocean, this request no longer exists at DISNEY'S VERO BEACH
Resort."
