No room at Coronado Springs

I recently tried to book a room at the Coronado for July 2005. Unfortunately, they are all booked. They said to try back because often blocks of rooms are reserved for conventions and the rooms do open up. Has anyone had this happen? How often should I call back? We booked a room at the Caribbean in the meantime.

I know the Children With Diabetes conference is holding their annual meeting at the CSR right after the 4th of July - something like the 6th-10th with 1500 folks or more perhaps (?) attending. I would guess many are planning on spending the entire week. In some conference info I saw they said the hotel was sold out of regular rooms that weekend (of the 8th).

My 2 yr old son was diagnosed with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes last March so this conference looks like a great event - but I'd prefer it wasn't so close to the busy 4th of July weekend.

My guess is that the CSR must often host these large conferences and can sometimes be very booked. Probably rooms will open up the closer it gets to July.

Coronado Springs was intended to be a convention center.

I don't know about Disney's policy or this specific convention but I have been to conventions and helped plan conventions and the attendees have to book rooms by a certain deadline otherwise the rooms are released for general booking.

Attended a convention at Coronado Springs last August, the regular rate was $145., the convention rate was $135. (seems comparatively steep to me for a convention), I booked at the annual pass rate of $95.

If a convention group fails to book a certain minimum number of room nights (and/or fails to order a certain number of banquet meals) they may be surcharged for use of other facilities namely conference rooms.

Also happening in July is the Starlight national dance competition. It is scheduled for July 9-13. I just booked my room this morning for $94. Guess that I did pretty good on the rate from what I've seen. What do you think? The CM said that I could also book additional nights at the $94 rate if I wanted.
