Some people I've spoken to who aren't as "into" Disney as I am, have mentioned that Disney didn't live up to their original expectations, but ended up exceeding them in a far better way. For example, I know a family who took their 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son a couple summers ago and they were also surprised that WDW wasn't "All Pre-K, All the Time." Apparently, this was a big surprise for them -- in a very good way! There are plenty of attractions that were age-appropriate for the young ones and just the right mix of "big-kid rides"
for the parents.
Chances are, the family that the OP spoke of didn't know what to expect. That's where vacation research pays off ... and that, my friends, is where the DIS comes in!
