no reservation at restaurant

Almost all in park restaurants reserve tables for walk ins. The only ones that don't are places like Le Cellier, BOG and CRT. With that being said, you may have to wait an hour or more for a table.

So no you can't walk up to a restaurant in the parks at 1:00pm without a reservation and expect to be seated any time soon, but if you go at like 3-4 you'll probably still have to wait but should be under a half an hour.

If you want to do a cake smash, why not do it before you go to WDW? Then you can videotape it to your delight without bothering other guests. And you'll have clean clothes and a bathtub handy to wash the baby.

I don't think that is right. I have never ever hear that Disney holds tables back. In fact I have heard quite the opposite.

We are. We are doing a photo session when we get back in a park where she will smash a cake. We figured we can do one at the park but not for $35. Maybe they will throw a free cupcake our way for her birthday.

This is not true. No WDW restaurant holds back tables for walk ins.

Really at 1 she's just going to overwhelmed. Are you bringing other children?

1) Well, yes some do.
2) However, these are at usually resorts, not parks, as park eateries have all their tables available for ADR's
3) We know of three popular resort TS eateries that only book about 80%-85% of their capacity.
4) This allows us Concierge and the local hotel staff to "squeeze" a guest of THAT resort into the eatery
5) Makes the "favor" by the Concierge Desk or Front Desk look good to the guest.
6) The CM doesn't make any money for this, but it can enamor the guest to that resort for future stays.
.
NOTE:
. . . there is no "hold back" restaurant capacity for walk-ins at park-location Disney-owned eateries
. . . the "hold-back" exceptions are non-Disney eateries, such as RFC, T-Rex and some Disney Springs (aka, Downtown Disney) restaurants

If you are looking for a smash cake
1) Why would anyone do a Smash Cake at a Disney restaurant.
2) They could get it on the floor all around the table.
3) This makes a mess and a possible trip/fall hazard for other guests.
4) At the minimum, the poor SERVER will have to clean it up.
. . . on the floor
. . . on the table and chairs
5) Sounds selfish and inconsiderate to me {personal opinion}.

As a server, please, please, please do not do a smash cake in a restaurant. The server is the one who will have to take time away from his or her other customers to clean up the mess (which takes longer than you think.) It's incredibly inconsiderate.

Sorry about that Rusty!

As a server for many years I also cannot support this. I actually do not understand doing it at home, but don't care what others do. I have had to clean up many a mess after guests treated my tables like romper room play tables.

{FLAMEPROOF CAPE FROM DRAWER TO SHOULDERS, BIG SCUPPER "S" on chest}
1) Golly, Gee.
2) Voices heard from those who have to clean up the selfish-inconsiderate-unkind mess.
3) The baby/kid won't even remember it, so why do it and make trouble/effort for someone else?
4) It seems like an activity SOLELY for the benefit of self-centered or spoiled adults and not the child.
5) And, there is no Clean-Up-Crew, it is the SERVER who must maintain the table and its immediate surroundings.
6) So, your actions take away from the duties of the SERVER and possibly reflect negatively upon their service to other tales/guests.
7) And, poorer service could easily result in lower tips, and thus, affect the SERVER's income.
8) How would you like to have reduced service levels because the SERVER was cleaning up after someone else's DELIBERATE mess?

NOTE:
Sorry for the opinion and posting, but readers know I criticize WDW, CMs and Guests alike.
I admonish any when there is wrongdoing.
And, to me, smashing a cake at a resort or park is wrong doing.

(Of course, if you do it in your resort room and clean the mess yourself, one would assume this might be acceptable.)

I think it would be super inconsiderate to do a smash cake at a restaurant. Any restaurant whether it be Disney or your local mom/pop restaurant. I'm sure it's not going to be a quiet or super clean smash so if I was a guest sitting in that restaurant, I would totally be annoyed and whipping out my judgey-eyes. It's also not cool to the next guests who will have to sit in that table who will probably get some residual smash cake on them or to the server who has to clean the unneeded mess you left behind.

We are not going to smash a $35 cake. If anything it will be a cupcake and she is not going to be flinging cake on the walls and at other people. this is a 1 year old, not 6 year old. If I was a server I would be more upset if a kid vomited all over the floor which is a lot more disgusting than a little bit of cake and probably happens a lot at disney due to the amount of kids that visit.

Just wondering where are you thinking of doing the photo shoot with the smash cake? Are you more likely letting the 1 year old just have their own cake so they can explore and not a real smash cake which is designed for mess? Usually a smash cake is mostly icing and the kids get covered in it, so does the high chair, and sometimes the floor. I know with my nephew he was just in a diaper because we knew it was going to be messy. We then ended up having to shower him off after so he could go back to his party. I don't think his high chair ever fully recovered. It still has blue icing stains 3 years later.

Yes children are everywhere in Disney but that doesn't mean that they throw food on the floor and leave a hard to clean mess every time.

At a really nice park near our home. We were just planning on letting her have fun with just a cupcake while at lunch on her birthday.

Oh sorry since this was originally about Disney World I assumed park meant inside the Magic Kingdom. Yes a photo shoot at a public park sounds wonderful.
