No Real Coffee At Disney ?

For the most part, I switch to a wake-up Diet Coke from the cooler in our room while we're at Disney. On our trip this summer, I had coffee twice. At 1900 Park Faire breakfast, it was okay. I got my mug filled with coffee at Beaches and Cream on my way from YC to BC store to buy milk for cereal. On my way back 10 minutes later, I had them to pour the coffee out, rinse the mug and give me some ice tea -- it tasted like coffee that had sat in a pot and burned all day.

Great thread guys.....I have to have my Starbucks coffee every morning!!! We even went to Kona Cafe to try their pressed Kona and sorry but it was like water compared to a good cup of Starbucks. I think Disney would do well to have a Starbucks at each park and maybe a couple more around the resorts and DD. Our coffee strategy is make a big pot in the morning and save the extra in a container for an afternoon pick me up of iced coffee in a nice big Mickey glass!! For any nice dinners at WDW I usually order a cappacino with my dessert and that seems decent ( could be just the nice presentation though).

Don't get me wrong, I like starbucks, but my point to starting this thread was how upset I was to find out how disney keeps watering down their product, we see it all the time, and we seem to just adjust to it. I know I'm only 34, but I've been going to disney since I'm 8 years old, and lots of things have changed, but most for the worst. I can remember the beginning of it all, when I was 17, we were on a family trip, my dad noticed that for the first time, the waiter at the Gulf Coast Room (we could start another thread on that rest, remember it at the Contemporary) put the piece of pie pointing the wrong way.
Lots of things have happened since then, Mc Donalds at Disney ?!
WHAT !

Anyway, I was really , really, looking forward to enjoying, a GREAT cup of coffee with my breakfasts at Disney, it's my favorite meal of the day. AND I CAN"T !!!

Maybe I'm too old fashion, but the "small things" such as a 12 cent cup of coffee rather than a 2 cent cup of coffee, and the waiter knowing that the pointy part of the pie faces the customer are exactly the type of things that made me spend 100k at that place over the past 15 years. And if this "downsizing" continues, I'll be spending my $$$ someplace that pays attention....

Thanks
John

You know, I've been thinking about this...what about the frou frou coffees? Cappucino, mocha...I had a cappucino with double espresso shots at WDW last spring (at AKL), and it was real, not instant. Granted, it's not just a regular coffee, but still - someting to help out...

John - I, too, have been going to Disney since the very beginning...and IMO, while some things have changed for the worse, others have changed for the better. I do agree with you here, though - with the amount of $$ WDW charges for food/beverages, give us the real thing!! If that's not an option I've gotta say - I would happily pay an extra 10 cents for REAL coffee!!

I am making myself laugh at how compelling I am finding this thread. I think back to my grandmother's family. Very well to do. I had a great aunt who lived in the Waldorf in New York. I cannot imagine how they would react if they found instant coffee accompanying their meal in a decent restaurant. The outrage would have been hysterical. Indignant fur would have been flying everywhere and these were not small women! The money is long gone. I do set a pretty mean table though with silver in all the right places.

I am also wondering about the meetings taken by Disney executives deciding to go with instant. We know for sure they are not familiar with a really good cup of coffee or else how could they? Can you imagine the conversation. The magic brew vendor telling the Disney guys, "They will never know!" What would Walt say? I like to think he would be really annoyed.

Is the lack of properly brewed coffee at Disney a reflection of our culture? My husband and I watched an old Leave it to Beaver the other night. ( A show my parents got free by having a television antenna . My monthly cost is $83.00!) The children on the show stood up to answer their teacher's questions. We don't do that anymore. There are lots of things we don't do anymore . Many rules ( like the direction of a slice of pie when served) are gone. It makes it easier for Disney Execs ( in the restaurant business no less! ) to make decisions like instant coffee in a restaurant that serves twenty dollar scrambled eggs. Thirty years ago, they would not have considered it.

But then again, would any of us have gleefully paid three bucks for a latte grande either?

Indignant fur - LOL!!! Your post is a riot...I can just see Eisner slurping away on HIS $3 latte, saying..."Come ON, guys - we're talking 10 cents a cup!!"

I have to say - even if I am not really gleeful about it, I would prefer to pay $3 for the latte grande than try to struggle through a nasty cup of instant - eeeeuuughhhh. Then again, I don't think of Disney as a place to go to save money, either!!

Okay, I was willing to stick up for Disney during all these cutbacks but this is hitting me where it hurts! We are coffee fanatics and we roast our own raw beans. At WDW we usually get a full pot from Room Service every morning. This infuriates me that I have to bring my own coffee beans, considering what we're paying this year.
We're staying at YC on the Grand Plan and the thought of getting instant coffee in the morning raises my blood pressure.

If I order espresso will it be brewed?

Is there anywhere in the Epcot Resorts or Epcot I can get fresh brewed coffee?

Eisner, you've gone too far!

I brew my own Starbucks every day at work and at home, but I thought the coffee I had at the Mara at AKL in February was pretty good. Each day I loaded my refillable mug on the way to the parks and the coffee was so darned hot I only got a few sips before we arrived at the park.:D

From what I understand, the coffee stands are now run by Joffrey. This is noted in a 2000-2001 Walt Disney Guide.
Does anyone know if the coffee is any good?
I have the Joffey Stands at : Downtown Disney, Boardwalk and at the entrances to Epcot and MGM.
Also, I have heard that the best cup of coffee is at the Swan's Lobby Court Lounge. Any truth to this?
Other notables : Ghiradelli's @Downtown Disney
Kona Cafe @the Poly
Tony's Town Square Espresso Cart
Crystal Palace @MK
turkish coffee @Morocco@Epcot..can you get it to go?
Kusafiri @AK
Fountain View @Innovations West, Epcot.
Any Yay or Nays on these?
I would love to have a comprehensive list before I get there!!
I remember noting in my Disney PassPorter last trip that there was NO GOOD COFFEE after New York State and I refuse to drink bad coffee at Disney.

Hakim!!!!

Now how do you know for sure that the coffee that YSH serves is the real deal???;)

SHHHHH!!!

Don't tell anyone, but Rick and I are coming down in December for a 3 day weekend. We may just have to pop into the YSH for coffee!!!!

Hey, maybe they are getting ready to run a new take on those old foldgers crystal ads. We are here at Walt Disney World and we have just switched the brewed coffee at the pre-dawn character breakfast with foldgers crystals lets see what the guests are saying. . .

There is a coffee kusak in the lobby of the CR that serves real coffee. It has been a couple of years since I've been at the CR but it should still be there! Great coffee!

We also bring our own beans in a ziplock. DH is so wonderful about brewing us a delicious pot of coffee. It really gets us going in the AM.

Sometimes when we've stayed in a studio we were given a small coffee maker and requested a larger one. It was no problem.

We had good coffee at Fountain View in Epcot and at Kona Cafe. Most other coffee we didn't care for.

The coffee at Disney has been instant for a while now, probably 2 years if I remember correctly. The instant stuff is made my Nescafe, you can actually see the machine at Beaches and Cream. Even the coffee in conceirge is instant. I believe Nescafe is affiliated with Nestle which is a sponsor of The Land in Epcot, I am sure that is the reason they went with that coffee. I don't think Nestle has "real" coffee, correct me please if I am wrong.

It isn't as good as Disney's coffee always was park wide but it isn't awful instant either, it is sort of inbetween IMO....:)
