No pool hopping at Art of Animation

Just the first of more to come, I see the demise of pool hopping completely in the future, as more and more of the pools become gated.

It may be excluded just because it's still new. It's still possible that it could be removed from the prohibited list in the future.

I highly doubt it because you cannot get in without an AoA room key.

Members can pool hop to Vero Beach which needs a KTTW card to access the pool. If they choose to make the 2 hour drive, the front desk gives you a KTTW card to access the pool.

I am not big fan of pool hopping just because of the amount of time it takes to get somewhere. But I do want to check out the resort on my next trip.

Based on reports of the new changes coming to the Polynesian, not even discussing the DVC possibility, they are fencing both of their pools during the upcoming rehabs to the resort.

I expect GF to be taken off the list too when DVC opens and I figure we will see that pool fenced too.

Which brings up the guestion: as more and more pools are denied; is it fair to leave the others open for pool hopping such as OKW, SSR, VWL and BWV.

I personally don't think it is.

The pool hopping situation, not talking about DVC, but those that just crash the pool without staying there, has gotten worse and worse.

The Polynesian and WL pools probably being the worse and BW.

With Disney going more and more to RFID keys, I figure all the deluxe and DVC pools will be gated in the future.

SSR is bad too - visitors come from DtD and use the pools near the walkway. I was staying at SSR a few years ago and there was a group camped out by a quiet pool - they had a cooler full of beer and wine coolers and monopolized the hot tub and half of the pool. One of them bragged about how easy it was to enjoy the pool without paying to stay there! We did report what we witnessed and heard - if anything was done, it was many hours later after we left.

As members we definitely need to let Member Satisfaction know this. Any of the resorts with easy access to other areas such as parks or Downtown Disney are probably hit hardest.

The new Paddocks pool is probably very tempting.

This is slightly off topic, but I witnessed a bus driver encouraging people to use the SSR bus to get to the parks. He told them to leave their car to DTD and ride a bus to SSR. He then told them to transfer to a park bus.

I agree that the SSR pools are probably easily targeted.

I agree, I think the days of pool hopping are numbered.

Fencing off pools such as WL will be difficult though as the pool is integrated with the walkways around the resort.

I'm all for gating the pools and only letting guests with keys in. Although then we'd have tailgaters sneaking in behind you.

I agree with that. I was at SSR last fall, Congress Park section.
There was 2 people that were there every day at the quiet pool.
And with all the stuff they had with them (cooler, food, clothes) it was obvious that they were not guest at the resort.

I do not know how many people take advantage of the pool hoping priviledge, but, I can be wrong, but I have a feeling that pool hoping is more used by outsiders than by DVC members that is why I would prefer to have a fence around the pool to make sure that only guest can enjoy it.

I hadn't heard about Poly fencing in but it is interesting. Will it block the great view of the water and the castle in the distance while swimming?

This is my first stay as a DVC member myself, years ago on my parents membership we never pool hopped, and I can honestly say I cannot see myself ever pool hopping, we do not drive as we never leave property so rely on Magical Express and WDW Transportation, so to pool hop wouldn't be the easiest thing anyways...

I do want to take DD to see Pop Century as she is INLOVE with Nemo (at least twice a day she has it playing while she plays) and she would go nuts with the giant theming.

You need to go to Art of Animation, not Pop Century.:goodvibes

I was going to post the same thing. That gate and using your room card means nothing. During our last stay at BLT (April) often the gate is left open and anyone walking behind you just comes in -- no sneaking. During our trip last month I was pretty certain that the quiet pool at BCV had non-staying guest there. There was a couple that would be there ALL day and when they left, they changed in the bathroom and went to the parking lot. While I gave them benefit of the doubt the first day thinking, maybe they are checking out, I saw them twice a week do this during our 2 week stay there. I'm not a fan of pool hopping, but not finding a chair is not right when non-resort guest are using them.

Members need to be proactive and always close the gate when it is left open. If it is broke, report it.

As to someone being at the pool and having a good idea they are crashers, I always just start up a conversation pretty soon you will know for sure.

Then I report them to security. Do I actively seek out the crashers, no; but when you see someone you can pretty much tell. I don't pay maintenance fees for the upkeep of pools at DVC for someone staying at the Days Inn in Kissimmee to use what I have paid for.

For security reasons they don't need to be there, and the guards need to do a better job at the gate.

I hope Disney does gate all the pools. Will some hard nose crashers get in, sure. You can't stop everyone. However it will deter many.

I realize this is a bit off topic, but can you use the main pool at Animal Kingdom Lodge if your staying at Kidani (yes, we are DVC members)????

Thank for your help!

Best wishes,
Dave

Yes, DVC member or not they are treated as one resort. Same is true at BWV where members can use the BWI hidden pool or at BCV both ways.
