We just got back last night...and I must say, I'm just glad we all made it back alive! About a week into our trip, I finally accepted that it wasn't going to get any better...join me as I relive the 11 days of our less than magical vacation, as a means of therapy for myself!
The Griswald's have NOTHING on us!
Cast of Characters:
Me: Mom of three. Wife to one (which is sometimes one too many!)Lifelong Disney fanatic. Trip planner extraordinaire.
Completely exhausted and sick after this trip. Night owl.
DH: Tolerates my Disney addition, as long as I promise him a meal at Ohana and the Plaza during every trip. Thinks we go too often and are spoiling our kids (this is important later). Was ready to leave after about four days. Morning person.
DS8: Disney fan, but to a lesser degree than his mother. Not an adventurous kind of kid, so don't go asking him to ride BTMRR. Terrified he's going to get lost, so he hangs onto me for dear life much of the time.
Not a fan of the heat. We'll call him Bashful.
DS6: Not a Disney fan
, but likes thrill rides. Usually up for anything. Loves to swim and do anything sport related. Terrified of thunderstorms (becomes important later). Junk food addict. Let's call this one Dopey.
DD3: I'm reasonably sure that she believes that she really IS a princess. Heaven help me. Her attitude preceeds her by days. She loves Disney, but is not a fan of the heat. Also came back sick and exhausted from this trip. And just because the shoe fits, we'll refer to her as the Evil Queen from now on!
Other characters who play minor roles in the adventure:
MIL - not along for the trip, but still annoying from a distance. Know how Malificent transforms into the fire breathing dragon? Yea....that's my MIL.
DM - also not along on the trip, but the designated dog-watcher.
BFF and family - there at the same time as us, but staying in a different hotel. On their first trip that I helped plan.
September 18th:
BFF gets to WDW two days ahead of us and realizes that she knows nothing about the DDP, even though I spent days trying to explain it. We spend about an hour on the phone working it all out for her...I get many texts from her about where to start in a park or where to eat for CS meals. It starts to annoy my DH....remember I said this.
Prior to leaving, we take Bashful's 6 month old puppy over to our friends house to watch during our trip. Bashful proceeds to cry for the next hour because he misses his dog so much.
This also starts his constant "I miss my dog" mantra that lasts until they are reunited...11 days from now....

We leave our home to travel 3 hours to stay with Nana, who lives close to the airport we will depart from. We deliver the other two of our three dogs for her to watch during our trip.
Try to get everyone into bed so that we can get some good rest before starting our 11 day marathon...That whole, "I'm too excited to sleep" commercial kept playing in my head as all three kiddos made it until 11:30 before crashing.
So much for good sleep....
September 19th:
Bashful made sure to check on his puppy twice before we left for the airport at 1pm....and cried both times.
Dogs fine, but he misses him, as I am constantly reminded! We leave for the airport, flight goes smoothly. We're all excited now! What should we do first?!
Get down to the ME line and wait...and wait...and wait...took nearly 30 minutes to get on a bus. I really should have taken that as an omen about POR!! The transportation didn't get any better. We finally arrive at POR. I wait in a long check-in line. When I finally get up to the counter, I very nicely ask to be put into any first floor room close to a bus stop. She gives us building 38 and tells me that "the bus stop is right out your door!" Ummm....it wasn't.
When I call to ask if there is any other first floor room in Alligator Bayou (where we have to stay since we are family of 5) that is closer to a bus stop and the CM tells me, "No, I'm sorry there isn't, but have a magical day!" Great. Thanks.
We unload our carry-ons, go to eat dinner at the POR food court, check out the main pool for a while and get to bed....
Tomorrow: The Evil Queen meets the princesses, the dwarfs declare they are "grumpy" and Mom breaks down (already) and pays Disney prices for beer!
Stay Tuned!
