For our trip last year I ordered our tickets online and received the physical tickets in the mail a couple of weeks later from Disney. This trip I ordered them in December and have not received physical tickets. We leave in less than 30 days. We are staying on property, have magic bands, and our tickets are linked in MDE. Do I need physical tickets in case something goes wrong with the link through magic bands? Or will guest services be able to deal with any issues without them?

You don't need them. If there's a problem go to guest services. I didn't receive anything more than magic bands for our last trip - no physical ticket/card/other media.

No need for physical tickets, as long as you can see that they are linked to your MDE account.

The MagicBands are just a way to access the information in your MDE.

No reason at all to have a physical ticket. We haven't brought a physical ticket to Disney in probably 3-4 years

So you only get tickets if you don't have magicbands connected to your account? If I were to get magicbands from disneystore, then connect them to our accounts, would that mean that if/when we get new tickets we wouldn't get them in the mail at all and would have to use our magicbands?

Depends.
If you order tickets from Disney, choose "will call" for delivery, and you won't need (and won't get) physical tickets.

I have multiple magicbands connected to MDE. We ordered and received physical tickets for our upcoming off-site trip.

Yup.
As I mentioned above, if you don't want the physical tickets to be shipped to you, make your ticket delivery choice "will call,"
and that will give you the CHOICE of either picking up the actual tickets at WDW, or simply not even having to pick them up, if you are using a MB.

But, the "will call" option will also give you ticket numbers at the time of the order so that they may be linked to your MDE account and FP+ can be pre-booked on or within your booking window.
(Many times, if you have an active MDE account, the ordered tickets will automatically link to the MDE and you'll be all set.)

You will also know if they are going to send them because there is an additional charge for having them sent instead of
Will Call. There is also, if they did set it up for sending them that the time frame is different. The last time the time between ordering and receiving was shorter could have been because you were going to go sooner then their planned trip this time. They don't send much out until you are just shy of being ready to go.

I remember the last few times getting tickets it was free shipping (I know there used to be a charge for standard shipping though)

Just a personal FWIW: I would always have a hard card ticket media as a backup. I work Main Entrance at the parks from time to time and many times there will be an issue where the Magic Band does not access the ticket properly and will show as "no media attached" on our handheld display. If you have the hard card media you can then just use them when we ask if you have them.

Yes, you can wait for a Guest Relations "ticket fixer" to take care of the Magic Band issue but if during a busy time of day, wait times can be protracted. If you go ahead and use the hard card media, you can just come on in and then go to a GR location in the park at your convenience to get the MB issue fixed.

Just my opinion as someone who sees a LOT of MB issues thruout the work day, so take that FWIW.

How often are there issues with the band getting into the park? This will be our first time using magic bands, I was kind of worried about this very same scenario. Also, do you get the printed cards while checking into your resort? Thanks!

I know it happens, but I've probably entered parks 50 times with MagicBands and have never had an issue.

No, you do not receive cards when you check in to your resort.

I'm sure there is some entity with Parks & Resorts that collects that information however, that does not filter down to the "drone level" CM.
