Hi,

I am taking my family to Disney for 7 days. 5 days at park + Arriving day + Departure day.

I am will be checking in on March 11 and I didn't buy the park tickets for that day.

1. What do you normally do on the arriving day? We are staying at "Port Orleans - Riverside". I guess we can look around the hotel. Is there anything else to do, if you don't have a park ticket for the arrival day?

2. I have seen postings about Stroller. So can I rent the stroller for all 5 days? How much is the cost?

Thank you

We are doing the same thing! My plan right now is to hit the pool and maybe Downtown Disney or the Boardwalk or mini-golf. Going to head to California Grille for dinner and a view of Wishes at CR. I think it is great to acclimate to everything Disney on your arrival day. As for the stroller I just asked this same question out here the other day and I plan to rent from Kingdom Strollers. It is $65 for 4-7 days for a single BOB which I like. They deliver to your resort and pick up straight from there after you are done. Other recommendations were Apple and Orlando rentals I think. Happy Planning and vacation!

We are going for 8 days, 5 days at the park. We are planning on hitting up Lego Land the day after we get there. We also have to pick up tickets and exchange my CM passes in for the Cards. We are also staying off the resourt so we need to buy groceries. :) We might also hit up the pool thats at the condos we rented

If you are going to LEGOLand go to McDonalds and get a HappyMeal while the toy is TheLegoMovie cup. In the cup is a coupon for a free child ticket with 1 adult ticket, I think it's about $50 in savings per child. I am also going for 8 days with a 5 day disney ticket the first & last day will be a resort and DTD days.
When we went a few years ago we went to the Wonder Museum.

It's already switched to Mr Peabody & Sherman toys but maybe you can find someone who kept the coupon and won't need it?

We have always gone to a park on arrival day - even if it is only for a few hours. We are usually so excited to be in Disney World. I can't imagine just hanging out at the resort. I want to go the MK. If for some reason we had to choose something else, I might do Downtown Disney.

Adding on that one more day cost VERY little. Much less than doing anything else. We arrive mid-afternoon most trips and hit Epcot that evening, eating dinner somewhere in the WS. We save MK for our first full day.

We just stayed at Port Orleans Riverside last month :)
The resort itself has TONS to do but the day we arrived we took the boat from Riverside to Downtown Disney, looked around and ate there. Riverside has a campfire every night (with unlimited marshmallows) followed by an outdoor movie. Inside the main building in the lounge they have YeeHaw Bob (might be certain nights, I am kicking myself for not stopping in one night but I just hadn't realize how much there was to do). They have horse drawn carriage rides along the river. They also have an arcade. Honestly, Port Orleans Riverside is so big and the grounds are so beautiful I wish we had had time to just walk around and take it all in. Just depends on what you want. You could just take the evening to wander around the resort. Might even be warm enough for swimming.

We go to chef mickeys for dinner.

We don't do the dining plan so I use the non park days to eat at a sit down place, not all the time, but sometimes.

Go to DTD, swim at resort and get to bed early so you are up ready to get to the park in the morning.

We do not go to a park on the first day. We like to hang out around the hotel, swim and then we like to go eat in downtown disney.

Swimming, Mini-golf, DTD, character dinner at one of the resorts (Ohana, 1900, Chef Mickeys), Movie, Bowling, Disney Quest....

I would spend the extra $10 per ticket and go to a park.

My kids hit the pool arrival day and we did dinner at Chef Mickey's. I think this worked perfect for us. They got to see the Fab 5; it also helped us see if our youngest, who is very unpredictable, actually liked the characters or would run screaming.

Also, letting them have some pool time right away, helped take the edge off, because for kids that's almost as important as the parks.

We usually head straight to the MK and get there in time for the parade - no way could we sit around the resort the first day and "relax" when we have driven 16 hours to be there! That being said you could definitely plan a character meal or get over to the Boardwalk area to eat dinner and watch Illuminations from the bridge between BC and Boardwalk. BC has movies on the "beach" some nights, it's perfect to spend time before Illuminations.

Ditto for us!!

We usually get the first flight (usually the flight leaves around 6am) out to FL the morning of so we are soooo tired when we arrive at our resort. We will hang around the resort, get settled, then go to Downtown Disney to walk around and have dinner. Then we go back to the resort and get a good night sleep so we can be ready. This time we will be going back during the summer so we will probably hit the pool the first day. But, we will still go downtown to walk around and have dinner.

We're staying at POR in July, and are planning a resort day for our arrival day. Our plane lands at 10:30 am so we are taking that day to unwind and explore the resort. We have an ADR at Boatwrights that night, and will probably do the campfire and movie. It's a nice way to kick things off mellow before we go go go for a week!
