No offence but...WDW rooms in hotels...

You have to remember that the rooms are themed to correspond to the theming of the resort. So rooms in the Aligator Bayou section of POR are very 'rustic' looking with beds made from rough cut logs etc.

Room at Pop are themed to suit as well, so may appear more bright and colourful.

It's very difficult from a photograph to get a feeling of what a room is really like.

We have found all the rooms we have stayed in on-site to be clean plenty big enough for us, especially considering the amount of time you actual spend in the room. :)

Hi there,

I have stayed over 100+ nights in a WDW resort hotels and can vouch for the quality of the rooms, I agree with the poster above it's the themeing that astounds most guests. If your a fish chips, football shirt wearing family maybe they are not aimed at you. The "Conde Nast" is a travel trade magazine rate some of WDW hotels in the best family hotels in the world.

Fish and chips/football shirt wearing kind of family??? Conde Nast is a travel magazine? Really???

Why not just say you're a snob and end it at that?!

I like Fish and Chips and also Global cuisine.
I wear a football shirt.
I'm in upper management.
I'm graded as Socio Economic class B
I usually stay in 4 or 5 star hotels.

...and I know when to use "you're" instead of "your". ;)

Please can we keep on topic for this thread - thanks.

Sorry Miffy, but i've been coming on here for a while and its the first time someone has been insulting!

Anyway, back to the topic, we've decided a villa for 1 week and 1 week onsite is the way to go. We're going to do 4 nights at port orleans and 3 nights at the Poly...those photos did it for me!!!

Thanks everyone for your input!

Wow, that sounds like a great choice, I hope you have a fab time :)

Great choices Eloise :thumbsup2 and with the villa you have the best of both worlds. When you return I would love to here how you got on :)

I have to agree with you Booknut, the majority of Disney hotel rooms are really justs small efficiency style rooms, i.e. a couple of beds, a small toilet and shower, a tv and err, thats it.
We have in the past stayed at Carribean Beach, Wilderness Lodge, and Grand Floridian, and I have to say the biggest dissappointment with all of the hotels was the size and facilities in the hotel rooms.
Sure the public area theaming is very good, but they hide what are essentially (if they were outside Disney) motel style rooms.

we have stayed twice onsite before we had children, but I found the rooms small, dark and depressing.
Yes, the themeing of the hotel might be nice, but I didnt like not having a balcony, and the motel style rooms..

We have always since stayed offsite and much preferred the extra space, the wonderful theming at the higher quality resorts for a cheaper price, and the facilities (washer dryer, full kitchen, several bathrooms for the family/ balconies, several tvs and different tv channels!) -

Dont get me wrong, if money was not an issue, we would stay in a 2 bed boardwalk villa for three weeks, but it costs something like £10,000 to do that! Its mad! Id rather stay at my three bed condo with amazing facilities for $149 a night... but thats just my preference.
There is absolutely no flippin way I would ever stay in one room with the three of us again.

Hello!
i LOVE disney hotels and there really is nothing like staying on property! the transportation sending merchendise back to the room and knowing you are (for most of the time) going to get that excellent Disney service!

now i'd be quite happy in ASMo or Pop! but my boyf has never been before and oddly likes to relax on holiday so we've traded up to AKL (bit of a jump i know!) so we get the better room the veiw and the service ( the boy bumped us up to conceirge with out me knowing!) and i've promised to take it easy - so it really depends what you're going to use the room for just sleeping or using it like an actual hotel!! hehe!!

anyway just some thoughts from me!

David
who really should get his uni work finished!

David,

Love that photo! I've come to realise that with Disney you are paying for an experience not a room so I've stopped comparing the £250 a night rooms to 'regular' £250 a night rooms here in London and i'm more relaxed about it now :)

I'm just so happy to be going back again so soon!!!

Good luck with the uni work (I wish i'd had this board to distract me when I was at Uni!!!) :teeth:

You've hit the nail on the head! And your split stay between a villa and onsite is going to give you a great taste of both worlds :sunny: I'm sure you'll have a great time.

hehe! thanks although my boyf isn't so keen! he reckons he looks fat and ginger! (he's actually blonde!)

and yeah it's a whole new world past those gates - they don't even have insects!

and i wish this wasn't here sometimes too distracting!!

LOL, he looks fine to me ;)
My DS (18) refuses to be 'ginger' and will only admit to being 'strawberry blonde' ;)

Have a great time, and try to ignore these distracting boards - it takes a lot of perserverence to gain a degree, as I did, at 43! :rotfl:

You know, i'm originally from Canada and I had never even heard the term 'ginger' in relation to 'strawberry blondes' until I moved to the UK 10 years ago :) I think he looks fab!

Alison, well done on your degree! My husband started his uni course last year when he turned 40 and he's loving it!

Strawberry Blonde and Ginger are two separate colours - One is blonde with a hint of "red"; the other is "Orange" :rotfl2: :teeth: . And if your son were Strawberry Blonde it would actually be Strawberry Blond :teacher: .

Me, I was always Auburn (until my hair fell out and went grey!) :lmao:

My husband was a ginge who insisted he was strawberry blond :rotfl2: all the rest of his family were extremely red but he thought cos he was a little fairer he could get away with it! no way!

I was just married at Disney and stayed for a week at the Yacht Club. This was a fantastic place. Very elegant, but not over posh. It shares a huge pool with the beach club resort. It's also off the boardwalk, so you can walk to shops & restaurants. You can walk to the world showcase at Epcot within 5 minutes. in my opinin it's the best place to stay.
Now on our last night of our holiday (we stayed in Florida touring for 3 weeks), we went back to Disney and stayed at Pop.
I knew it would be basic compared to the Yacht, but I would have at least expected it to be clean. It was drab, dirty, smelly, noisy and the bed linen had holes in. We paid $145 for one night, which I honestly thought was disgraceful.
I have stayed at caribbean beach before and loved it there. That was worth the money.
