No more Stanby line for A&E?

But they meet all day long. Everyone, including the late sleepers should have the same chance. It's all about equality, no?

He he..... I see what you did there. ;)

Everyone will survive, certainly. Most of those turned away will also have the phrase "that well and truly sucks" going through their head.

That's almost as good as pixiedust, don't you think? ;)

Yep, I agree. Don't worry, they'll tweak it a little so it just sucks less.

You're on a roll this morning! :thumbsup2

Agreed, and the other thing is that the waits often are NOT 3+ hours. Josh (easywdw) has mentioned seeing waits around 60-90min. Now that's more than I would wait, but it's not an astronomical amount of time and such waits are pretty common in the summer for SM, SplashMtn, and I'm sure SDMT.

Give 'em time. they'll mess with those too.

What this does is take away the opportunity for alternative approaches like entering the line during the parade or late at night. Once those tickets are gone, you are just SOL.

So far, you're the only one.

Ye. And let's not forget the part of this that is for Disney- crowds now out shopping/eating as many have said, crowd/queue control, a possibility of increasing the FP+ percentages and having a very specific number available for Standby+ (is it too soon?) each day, etc. Marketing-wise, they're able to test/move to Reservation Only and not say it. Unlike the negative feedback they received in early May with FP+-only for some M&G's for a few days.....

Other than commercials on TV I'm not sure what can be done to spread the word to those walk up guests. Complaining about FP+ isn't going to make it go away, I think we've all figured that out by now. At this point I'm thinking their changes are trying to make it better, not harder.

Right now herds of people arrive at MK and head to A&E to stand in line. Instead herds of people will arrive to MK to be given a return time for later. Why can that method work for Jedi Training and not for A&E? Those that arrive late at HS are shut out and we haven't seen wailing and gnashing of teeth over at HS. Kids have survived the disappointment. At least with A&E you can send just 1 to get passes while the rest to ride something. You can't do that at JTA since the kids have to go too

You are comparing apples and oranges with this example. On the conservative side, there are 2k kids who want to see A&E everyday and 100 kids who want to do JTA. There are not as many kids who get shut out of JTA as will get shut out of A&E.

Also, I don't think JTA is advertised like A&E, so most people don't know it's there to be disappointed over not getting in. We didn't know anything about it until we stumbled on it and this was back when there was no 'return later for your turn' card given to potential Jedi's.

And I think a lot of us are looking at this from an adult perspective: It's just a m&g; if you don't get in it's no big deal; kids need to learn they can't always do or get what they want; etc.

These are kids; to them, it's not just a m&g, it is a big deal. And I think there are other times and places where the 'you get what you get and you don't pitch a fit' concept can be reinforced. If the kids are older (7 or 8 years old etc) they may understand better; but I doubt there are very many 4 and 5 year olds who will understand this. Although to us, it seems a silly thing to get worked up over, to a lot of them and their little worlds, not meeting A&E is devastating.

Although DD8 is older, she still really wants to meet A&E so I'm keeping my eye on this so I know what to tell her about our trip next year. If we don't get to meet them, there will be some major disappointment going on, but I'm lucky she's old enough to understand.

Good luck and happy thoughts to those who have really little ones.

I guess since so many people won't be in long lines, they'll be out on the sidewalks in the park. They're going to have to come up with a better way for the newly released crowds to navigate certain high-traffic areas like the Main Street hub. Oh....... wait..........:scratchin

Not picking on anyone.

But we all HAVE to stop calling these tickets, Fastpasses/FP. They aren't and overloading the term has and will cause confusion.

They are not Fastpasses. They are I don't know "Standby Return Tickets?"

I said yesterday that my final opinion on if this change is good or bad rely on these things. Even the few reports heard thus far haven't cleared up much question on distribution. I'm not sure 3 days is enough time to even get a good idea on any of these, quite honestly.

What distribution was like
What additional rides were involved, if any
How fast tickets were gone
What putting all those folks who had been standing in line do to the other ride lines

It is equality.....old fashioned equality. The early bird catches the worm kind. Get there early or it will be gone.

I understand that not everyone likes that approach or agrees with it. But I bet there are lots of people that will be happy with this.

Honestly... I remember Rapunzel & Flynn causing mass chaos in MK mornings. They had them where Merida is now, and people who wanted to meet them had to get there at rope drop. They met in installments and would only allow a certain number of kids to enter per time slot. We got to the park at rope drop and still had to wait in a two hour line to meet them... if you weren't there at rope drop or weren't willing to wait in a line (i remember it also being near 4 or 5 hours) you didn't meet them!

Can't wait till the buddy system threads become a necessity like the ADR cancellation threads. "I'll be at MK in the afternoon of Day X, anyone gonna be there in the morning who can get me passes?"

Do you know what would work best? If they just WAITED a few for the frenzy to die down which we all know it will eventually and then life can go on as normal. The idea of making a standby ticket return system is simply ludicrous.

It worked for Conversation with Mark Hamill and it's worked for the singalong. Just another bump in the road to get use to.

Maybe getting the Frozen girls to all 4 parks will lighten the mk load?

Anyone want action on if this test will be extended?

Two temporary attractions.

I just hope Disney never does this with any of the rides. Meet and greets are bad enough. If they do away with standby for rides that would be trouble!

I'm glad this got posted. I had heard about this from a friend CM a couple of days ago but have had limited access to the web (other than a cell) for the last couple of weeks. Now, into the fire I go.

The first thing to keep in mind is that, as of now, this is a test. While it's a good indication of what Disney is thinking, the system now is going to be very different from the one we see if this gets rolled out any further. For those planning upcoming vacations, I'd just plan on the old system being in place.

Personally, I'm not a fan of this at all. In my opinion, there should always be access to any operating attraction for everyone even if they need to wait hours. It should still be an option, as I'd argue that is what you're primarily paying for (the attractions).

I mentioned this a while ago in one of those "FP+ is horrible" threads that something like this could be coming since operations saw the ummm... "potential" with FP+ to save money by knowing exactly how many riders at what times an attraction will have. The original FP+ really looked nothing like what's in the parks today.

I'm sure Disney will find a way to make this and mitigate everyone's frustrations but I just don't see this as any benefit to the "guest experience."

Why does everyone assume that there will always be CM's handing out passes to whoever with no question asked? I can see this during the early test phase but Disney is all about allotment and I bet that some type of machine would distribute these eventually. And I bet that the number given would be limited.

Mesaboy, I see what you did too. ;)

Hmm, interesting concept! A machine that actually gives you a piece of paper with a return time on it. Like an appointment. Your idea is brilliant Plano you should pitch it to Disney!!!!:rotfl:
